In a sense, it is never wise to tilt or shake your laptop when a CD is being run in the optical drive. Since the only support holding the disk is in the center and the overall reading tray is not really the sturdiest of things, there is possibility of causing damage when the CD is actively spinning in general.

Do you shake your xbox when you put a game in it? You probably shouldn't EVER be shaking any optical drive with a cd in it.....

When it is not moving it is fine, but not when it is actively spinning.

Forgive me if my question seems silly, but I assume there is NO NOISE of scratching when you have the Envy sitting quietly by itself just playing the CD/DVD? If its doesn't make the noise I'd let it play normally just sitting without tilting....

P.S. Why were you tilting it and playing the cd/dvd in the first place?

Oh, lol ok. If its just noise on moving I'd think it would be normal. If someone else can elaborate, but I think moving a laptop while a disc is playing will make noise....sure. Anyway, enjoy the laptop.

Why are you tilting your envy while the DVD is spinning? Don't do it! :)

You'll get the scratching noise whenever you're on an uneven surface. Which includes moving it around in your lap. If it's causing major scratches, I would suggest you get one of those lap pillow tables for your envy.

I usually rip my DVDs to my HD, so I rarely use the DVD try.
