I was browsing the HP site and what surprised when I only saw the Envy 17 availible, not the 15. Now they are changing there pavilion line to their Envy line. Honestly I'm dissapointed at this.

Envy 15/17 discontinued, no mention of a replacement.

HP is re-aligning and consolidating their existing notebook lineups -- and it's annoying how they are (trying to) do it.

I can affirm that the ENVY 15-3XXX and ENVY 17-3XXX series are being phased out when it comes to availability, unfortunately. The existing ENVY lineup is being replaced with notebooks that were formerly part of the Pavilion lineup - this includes the dv4, dv6, dv7, and m6. Budget notebooks and sleekbooks will remain in the Pavilion line.

Technically they have just axed their premium full power notebook while pulling a fast one by rebranding the same exact series into another series. Brings zero benefits to the consumer.

    ENVY me, ENVYs HP gone.

Specter xt lineup is good, except that you cant get full HD screen and processor available is for ultrabooks (ofcourse its xt ultrabook anyway) than mainstream powerful notebooks. What is next big 15" notebook available from HP right now? I kinda always liked HP's notebooks, and if HP does not have a fully loaded 15 incher right now, I guess its finally time that I start contemplating making my move to rMBP.

The current best 15" offerings are the HP ENVY dv6t-7200 Quad Edition Notebook PC or the HP Pavilion dv6-7014nr Entertainment Notebook PC. Note the ENVY is a rebadged Pavilion.

Spectre XT Touchsmart does have a Full HD, IPS touchscreen and a beautiful one at that. But it runs on a ULV processor and integrated graphics.

i highly doubt hp is leaving the premium line. the envy line has gotten too much bad rep with buildquality and the orangegate issue. I think they are gonna bring a new premium line for haswell.

So, you're theory is that they ruined the ENVY reputation, so they are going to revamp the 15 and 17 under a new name when haswell/windows 8 are stable. Sounds like something HP would do because they're a bunch of morons.

basically but i dont think its gonna be the same machine. i think they are going to go towards the rmbp/asus u500 way where its still powerful but thin without the odd. like the 1st/2nd gen envys

Haswell is several months away. Too late to fill the gap. Ideally, they should introduce it before the holidays or latest by CES in January.

I really hope you're right. Dumping the ODD and incorporating a GPU along the lines of an Nvidia 660m would be great. Who still uses DVDs/CDs these days? Looks like Razer has managed to do this in a chassis that is only 0.88" thick. However, there is no Razer option available with i7-3720QM or i7-3820QM, nor any option for dual SSDs in Raid0 instead of the HDD.

Been planning to upgrade my envy 15-1100 which I purchased way back in 2009 and I'd love to pick up a Haswell envy 15 equivalent with a great mid-range mobile GPU.

    Flash images?

Do you mean backing up an image of your primary hard drive? Isn't it much faster and more convenient to use an external USB3.0 drive?

lol i had the need to use my dvd drive for the first time since making recovery disks. and this was for making a win8 disk however, this was solved by using a usb disk. honestly im thinking of investing in the dvddrive caddy + 2 x cheap 256 gb ssds for around 100$ each on black friday to replace my hdd and dvd drive. they are already down to 130 so hopefully it will happen by then. if not then surely by christmas. everything is headed toward flash storage or cloud storage. all major OS have some sort of drive. MS=sky drive, google= google drive, apple= icloud. i cant wait till dvd drives are gone :p

they should be able to get something stronger in there due to increased space for cooling. prolly along the lines of kepler/gcn but with 670/675 performance in the next line of gpus when they get rid of fermi.
