Lol! Be my guest!Go ahead! Since I can't open my box until later this evening, I would be just as excited watching your video knowing that I will have my desire of touching it satisfied in just a few hours.(no funny thoughts here pleez)

Checking HPs site and my Envy was supposed to ship yesterday. About an hour ago, I couldn't log into the site to check my order. I still can't log in. I called CS and it appears their systems are receiving some updates and even the representatives cannot access the order information. He said it should be up in about an hour.

Tracking show's mines in TN, should get here tomorrow. I'll be doing a thorough review as soon as I have it in hand.
-
Darnit!! Positive.....positive......positive -
I'll make an unboxing video today if no one else wants to, mine is out for delivery.
And no, my laptop did not go straight from alaska to hawaii, it went through oakland california. Buying fedex 2nd day is completely pointless for HP CTO laptops. -
Certain too that it will make for a sudden increase in order clicks either at the HP store or Amazon site. -
-
The whole world is waiting you know.....
And believe me, I know the pain of using an older generation laptop. I am now still typing on a Dell Inspiron E1705 from 2006 which has served me well (If you put into consideration the 3x Dell has replaced my GPU, 1x Mobo replacement, and 2 LCD screen replacements - great value, that dell warranty!) -
Ok guys, like I said... it's just a quick n dirty:

Cool, a first video.. If you could keep posting some usage videos, that would be great..
Great job already! -
Triple monitors with only 2 external monitors can be done! To do this you absolutely must use the minidisplayport. It will not work if you use vga and hdmi. I know what you're thinking, who has a monitor that accepts displayport? Well, I certainly don't but, you don't need one. You just need a minidisplayport to VGA adapter. I bought one on amazon for about $16 with expedited shipping. It works like a charm. Check out the pictures! Also, I included a photo of a 200-nit screen and the envy 17's 300 nit screen so that you can see the difference.

Nice video. Nice packaging. HP's come up a bit since the HDX packaging.
Enjoy. -
By the way, since i've got my 3 monitors going, I will find out if it is possible to play games with this set up (2 externals and the laptop screen). I am going to test it out on bioshock 2 because that guy from the hp video said it is supposed to work. We will see!
-
I am guessing you used the HDMI and the displayport?
[scratch that last question, upon examination of the picture, I see you used the VGA and display port] I think it will be the same for the HDMI and display port combination.
Just wondering if the laptop can be placed in between the two externals instead of on the extreme right as in your setup. -

Argh I just finished filming mine, posting from the envy 17. I guess I won't post my unboxing vid.
Some things to note: fn+b disables bass, fn+esc shows a lot of info.
I can't figure out how to get into bios.
The trackpad is better than an Envy15's, but not as smooth as a MBP's.
There is keyboard flex in the middle of the keyboard, by the G and H keys. That is very sad.
There is no integrated graphics.
Webcam is fine in sunlight (cloudy day, not direct sunlight, so no guarantees). I don't own any incandescent light bulbs.
Laptop arrived with some black marks on the corners, but they rubbed off easily.
I'm going to format now. The only two HP pieces of software I'm going to install are probably the blu-ray player software and the drive guard.
By the way, the right palm rest is cold, the left is warm, and the area under the tab key is getting hot. Probably because i'm using it on a soft surface that's blocking the air intake ports. -
Download link to view the video then please? The more videos the better! -
Maybe i'll post the video later after I reformat the computer -
does the screen have limited tilt like the hp envy 15?
-
This is the minidisplayport to vga adapter that I bought from amazon:
Amazon.com: Mini DisplayPort to VGA Female Adaptor for Mac:…
You'll notice that it says "Mac" in the title, but I guess that's just because Macs are associated with minidisplayport or something. As you can tell from the pictures, I was not using a Mac and it still works fine.
You can arrange the monitors in many different ways including placing the laptop in the middle or on the left and you can also stack them vertically. I was using two 1080p monitors and one 1650p and they were all running at their individual resolutions. Also, I used the "windows screen resolution" thing to do this not the ATI thing. I'm not saying the ATI thing doesn't work, it's just that I didn't try it.
As soon as these damn recovery disks finish burning I'll give the game a try and let you know if this setup plays correctly, even though it'll be odd because the laptop screen is almost 8" smaller than the external monitors!
Mobilezilla: I used VGA and minidisplayport. -
-
I am also feeling the flex, but it's doing so for the 4-6 keys in center of the middle and lower rows of keys. Bummer, but I don't mind it.
Can't you get into bios via Esc key at boot? The ssd is kinda making the boot screen go too fast though. -
Here is a link to a mini displayport male to hdmi male 6 ft. cable with no need for an adapter:
edit: hold off on this purchase till I receive my Envy 17 and can verify that it supports eyefinity. -
Just reinstalled windows7, working on drivers now. -
ltarmstrong3,
Before you do that please search for and read info about hdmi to displayport using eyefinity. I've read that there is a problem with passive vs. active converters and you need to research it before you buy because it sounded important. I posted a link a long while ago, but info should be easy enough to find using your favorite search engine. But, from what I have read, the only hdmi to displayport adapters that work with eyefinity cost $100 or more, and the others don't work at all or something, so check it out and be sure to let me know if what I've said here is wrong or misleading because my info is second hand. -
Question for those of you who have received your Envy 17. Mine is due to arrive tomorrow, but no one will be home so Fedex will either leave a note saying they couldn't deliver, or I could sign a note letting Fedex leave it without me being here.
So, my question is, how conspicuous is the packaging? Does it scream HP Envy 17 all over the outside? Meaning, would a ne'er do well walking by be tempted to grab it? Would it be okay to leave a signature for Fedex to drop it? If I miss it tomorrow, I don't want to think about going the whole weekend knowing it's sitting in a Fedex warehouse 5 minutes from my house.
Thanks! -
-
I downloaded all my drivers.
Btw, there is a bios update, but I haven't done it yet. Kind of scared, to be honest. I'll wait until others apply the bios update. -

Thanks and I'll get back with an answer. -

This ones for you guys who want a glimpse of the Envy experience, before the experience (click the image below):
Note: Imageshack reversed the transition order of the photos for the regular view mode and I don't know how to set it right. Slideshow was the only thing that ordered it correctly- hence the slideshow link.
P.S. There's a photo in there with the approx. degree measurement of the display tilt. I'm just glad it's not the 100 degree "tilt" that was on the Envy 15. Anyway, you can click on any of the pictures in the slides to get a better look (esp. for those measurement photos). Let me know if any of you have a particular shot you want to see, and I'll try to add it.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -

Ok Guys, hope this works. I will be posting some pictures of the laptop below.
My initial very brief impressions? Very Impressed with the build quality and feel of the laptop in my hands.
I have not had the chance to power it up yet, will do so after dinner prep tonite.
Quick answers to some questions I have seen on this thread:
1) Does the front edge hurt the wrist when resting on it?
- No, the front has a slight bevel to it. Does not seem to hurt my wrists.
2) How far does the screen open?
- I have posted a picture below with a tri-square next to it. You be the judge.
3) HOw is the protective rubber rim around the screen like?
- Posted picture shows close ups of this. You can see it does not rise very high above the glass. Good in my mind.
4) As I would be using this laptop on the stand myself in one of the locations, I was hoping to find one that fits. I think I did. Just dont go rocking it too much. It will stay stable as long as you dont push it around violently. I will be using an external keyboard with this stand.
5) Laptop does not wobble. It sits very firmly on the table.
Initial conclusions? Was it worth the wait so far? YOU BET.

I just realized my Envy17 is a little uneven sitting on a hard table, the bottom right corner "rocks" a little.
-
@mobilezila
Nice job with the photos! And the notebook stand reminds me of our discussion from the old Envy 17 speculations thread -
-
I'll try it out this weekend and let you know what happened.

Yeah, I will be using my ENVY at several diff locations; from bedroom to home office, and living room. The stand will be bedroom where my table is smaller and I do not have space for multiple external monitors. But I still want to use the display comfortably..thus the need for the stand. But in my home office, I will be using it with my two external monitors plus the simultaneous display on the laptop itself, as just proven possible in a recent posting.
Going to start burning the recovery disks soon. Personally, for myself, I find the keyboard flex not to be too obvious unless I apply alot of pressure to the keybaord itself. I think its fine. Believe me, compared to the build quality of the G73 I owned before, the ENVY 17 is much much better in looks and feel. The size, to the eye, appears much slimmer, smaller, and sleeker than the G73. Very glad I was able to return it, no regrets. -
OMG, HP says they don't have any stock to replace mine...they are offering a refund =[ No idea when they will get more and I don't know if I want to wait. What is an equivalent laptop that is suitable as a DTR? *cries*
