10% discount? that's cute. but i dont want their little gifts here and there. i want my envy17 to be here this instant. my new estm ship date is actually tomoro, so i'll wait and see lol. i was given 25 dallors for the first delay, so the second delay should be even more.. as of now, i'm thinking about how i'll deliver a speech-like complaint through the phone, hopefully they'll give me more credits to spend - only if they delay again tomoro.

So far my Australian mate Jaxxy and I are top-equal on the list of 'ENVY 17 Buyers Who Received Defect Product"! That's not such an esteemed list to be on :D

Jaxxy are they sending you a third one?

All I'm hoping for is news from E17 buyers that the problem is fixed. If it turns out that way, that makes things sweet for my E14 purchase

If I order around June/July, it'll be a really short period for me to initiate return/exchanges. Gotta move into apartment and plan for school.

That was partially one of the reasons I went for the 17 instead of the 14. In case I had any problems, I would have time to work them out before college starts.

I'm planning on getting a notion ink adam for in class note taking. Hopefully it comes out before September.

From all of us who've had them so far, Would I be going to far in saying we're all super pleased with the way the computer runs, performs, looks and feels overall? It's just the cosmetic defects that are hampering these early rollouts. Such a shame because it is a very nice laptop.

I still want it, besides the fact I've had 2 now that were uneven.

I have absolutely no buyers remorse. I love this laptop! It is head and shoulders above my old DV9500. I know others have had some issues with theres but I haven't. I would buy again given the opportunity.

Mine was also delayed about 5 days. I was fine with that considering this is a brand new product. If they took extra time that's fine with me as long as they got it right.

are there any americans out where who recieved an envy17 with hardware issues? it would be nice if someone can make a list of the many problems that the envy17 is known to have so far, so when us delayed customers get our notebooks, we can quickly jump into business and seek the possible imperfections.

just to name a few that i've come across from my everyday visit in this forum:
    -heat?
    -wobble? (kiwistyle)
-slow boot up time due to bloatware?

The biggie I've seen is the sound stuff.

that hiss/crackle and then that high pitched whine (one of those is fixed by turning on listen to microphone and then muting it..or something. It was posted earlier on in the thread)

THANKS SO MUCH! Here is a link to download the demo:
http://www.crysisdemo.com/ It is a 3 year old game but it is pretty much the most graphically demanding game and is used as benchmarks for all types of hardware to easily compare. I'm not sure what settings will be optimum for the 5850 but you should be able to crank them pretty far. Thanks again! I LOVE you :D

I had to ask for a supervisor to get the $50 credit - nicely of course. As for the new estimated shipping date, it came in the delay email: Here is a copy of that email:

    Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Due to product constraints we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 6/23/2010 or no later than 10 business days from the original estimated ship date. If you prefer not to wait you may cancel your order by either replying to this e-mail message with your order number or calling our toll-free customer service number at 866-288-1610 between 7:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. (ET) Monday through Friday or on Saturday between 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. (ET). If you choose to cancel your order, your refund will be released by HP within 24-48 business hours of cancellation confirmation. The posting of your refund to your credit card, e-finance, or PayPal account is subject to your bank’s processing time which usually takes 3-5 business days.

If we do not hear from you before we ship your order, we will assume you have agreed to this shipment delay and still want your custom PC order. As soon as your custom PC is ready for shipment, it will be assigned a tracking number with our carrier and you will receive a Shipment Notification e-mail from us. You can then check your tracking number online to obtain the estimated delivery date.

We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused and thank you for your patience.

    Sincerely,
    Customer Service

I feel for you guys. Both of my envys shipped on time. The second was with the $300 coupon (reason for the re-order). The 2nd order I did 2 day shipping (because of the coupon) and it actually took 3.

Some heat and fan noise. High pitch noise cleared with the mic fix, but im pretty happy right now. I hope all ends well with the rest of you.

You and me both hoping so! I'm certainly not going down to Harvey Norman again to get anymore, they'll all have the same problem not doubt so that's HP's concern now.

I'm gona ask them if I can get a custom build from the factory, as well as some money off what I paid for all this messing around.

ltarmstrong3, have you received your tracking number yet? i kind of feel bad for my many complaints on the phone, in the end it's really not the cs's fault..but they still shouldnt have lied(they lied to me too) saying it's finished, or blaming fedex. it's pretty clear to me now that the three of us, me, you, and mabymac will be getting our notebook around 6/23..i also do apologize for my negativity in a few of my latest posts, but this type of treatment is clearly unjust. it would be even more unfair if one us gets it before the two of us. well, im taking your word for it Maybemac. i'll try to be nice and ask for the 50$ credits

I see that alot of people are asking questions that have been answered long ago about the specs of the Envy and what's included. Questions about optical drives, type of VRAM, etc. I just want to kindly remind newcomers to first take a look at the first page of this thread. Your questions will likely be answered among the reviews and/or specifications.

So what do you want me to test for?

I don't see how taking a video of me playing, using fraps, will help. It's not going to show how smooth it is, is it? I guess you can see the FPS, is that what you're after? Sorry, not really clued up on doing fraps/games, but happy to do the test if you give me some instructions.

Read back 5-8 pages. Imprecise engineering. There's a "gap" between the chassis's pieces. See large photos.

    Hi all,

I got my Envy 17 last Friday and so far, no problems that others have reported here. I do have one issue that maybe you can help me with.

I bought my Envy with both the 6-cell and 9-cell battery. The 9-cell works fine. However, when I put the 6-cell in the laptop, it isn't recognized. The little battery icon in the system tray has a red "X" on it and if I click it it says no batter is installed.

Anyone else have this problem? Should I just call HP and ask for a replacement?

    Thanks!

Regarding the "heat" under the left palm rest:

What's underneat it - why is it getting fairly warm while the right side doesn't?

My 6-cell did the same thing when I received mine. I also got my envy on Friday. I thought it was broke but I put it back into the computer and let it charge for 2 hours. The computer finally recognized it and the battery works fine. Try that and see if it works. I think the 6 cells are just sent without any charge so they aren't seen by windows but the 9 has a half charge. Atleast that's how mine was shipped and looks like yours maybe too.

Hmmm, I had it in for an hour or so, but still got the "unrecognized" message.

But, will try it again, leaving it in a bit longer this time.

Thanks for the help -- much appreciated.

If moving from a regular HDD to SSD is it possible to just copy the contents of the entire drive using a cloning program or copy program? I know of a disc copy program that also re-partitions drives based on size but forgot the name. Moving from a 320GB drive to an 80GB SSD. I'd like to try and NOT do a complete reinstall of windows 7.

It is possible with drive imaging software like Acronis. But with an SSD, it is recommended that you do a clean install.

You should try it without the AA and see what the frame rates are like. From what I understand, only the most powerful SLI setups can handle AA on power hungry games like crysis, unless you have all/ most of the other settings on low.

The 5xxx series cards have builtin free AA. I think you get 2x AA and like 4x Anisotropic filtering without any performance loss, but you need to do this from the catalyst control panel. This is cause of an added image processing chip.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Going to go confirm this myself.

I am interested in this Laptop.

I've been following this thread, noticed another question about the display, but have not seen a reply. I too am interested in knowing about this display.

The first page of this thread cites the display as:
    17.3" 1920x1080 LED backlit (non-Radiance type, 300 nit) E2E Glass w/ Protective Beze

Chapter 1, pg2 of the Service manual describe the display as:
17.3-in, WVA full high-definition (FHD), LED, Anti-Glare (1920×1080, 6 mm) display; typical brightness: 300 nits

HP's site specs describe the display as:
17.3" diagonal Full HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display (1920x1080)

I am Interested in an anti-glare display.
Is this computer shipping with an anti-glare display?
How is the display in a bright room with windows behind you?

I don't have the exact answer why it's a good idea to do a clean install but since I have done one on my ssd it has noticeable increased performance.

    Go Here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/mic...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

I recommend doing the ISO download method. Use the microsoft burning tool here: Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help to burn the ISO to dvd.

Before you clean install use this: ABR Beta With Windows 7 Support | directedge.us to backup and restore your key.

All you have to do then is re-install the drivers that you need and you have a clean install.

I just got my new HP Envy 17. I only ordered it with one drive in and and plan on ordering an Intel X25 for it. I just found out about the extra HDD kit.. THIS IS TOTALLY LAME. I dropped almost $2100 bucks on this laptop and they can't send me a $5 part? They want $88 plus $11 shipping to TN then tax....... I wish I would have just ordered the laptop with the 2x320GB 7200 drives, so I would have at least gotten the drive and the bracket. I will let you know what I think about the actual machine after I have some time to play with it. Right now I am pretty pissed about the whole thing.

If you can wait a few months for a Secondary drive bracket kit, the folks at NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks tell me that they, too, have an Envy 17 on order and will begin design of a Secondary bracket kit only once the computer arrives.

I won't be surprised if other after-market companies are doing the same.

Oh Envy 17, I sing a song for thee,
    It has now hit three.
You've been out for delivery since this morning,
    I am now a scorning.
Oh Envy 17 I want to hold you in my arms,
Hoping that you arrive with no harms.
    Waiting to turn you on,
But as I wait I start to think HP pulled a con.
Oh Envy 17 if you were only already here,
I would give you a beer.
I would charge your battery full,
And use your webcam to film me fighting with a bull.
Oh Envy 17 get here soon,
At least before the next full moon.
Get here fast and get here now,
