The $370 option was for ONE drive. It wasn't for both an SSD + HDD.

Here is the link for the deal:
    $30 off Intel X25-M Mainstream G2 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal SSD (SSDSA2M160G2XXX) - LogicBUY

Again. I really don't know why this is confusing to you guys:

The SSD upgrade option was for $370- you upgrade the standard 500GB HDD to a 160GB SSD. That $370 gives you a SINGLE 160gb SSD. NOT an SSD and an HDD.

The base HDD on the Envy 17 is a 500GB HDD, not a 320GB HDD, go customize it and see for yourself.

So basically, you can pay $385 for an SSD alright, and get the 500GB that already comes with the Envy 17. OR you can pay $370 and ONLY get a 160GB SSD.

    Again:

    Pay $370 and get a 160GB SSD.

    OR

Pay $385 and get a 160gb SSD AND the 500GB that already comes with the Envy 17.

    It's not rocket science.

wait... how you can use the bing cash back? I did exactly like you said, go to bing.com and type HP and clicked the first result link, and everything is the same price, there is no discount or anything, was I wrong?

Correct me if I am wrong, but are you expecting the 25% BCB right now? The previous 25% BCB lasted only on the very first day of the release of the ENVY 17. There is no 25% BCB going on right now. You may find that BCB fluctuates around 8-10% normally if it works.

You can't see how much you are discounted until AFTER you process your HP purchase. That is why you're not able to see your configured notebook at anything but HP's original price. Once you process your order, you'll get an email from Bing confirming your pending savings amount.

Sometimes, that first "Bing cashback" link you see when you search for "HP" will not specifically state that it's a 10% cashback link. I'm not sure if ALL of the first links are 10% by default, but just to make sure you DO get the 10%, refresh your search result until the first link says at the end of it, "Get 10% Cashback". Enter HP using that link. Like I said, this is just to make sure you are going into HP with the idea that you'll be getting 10% savings after processing your order.

    Confusing?

ok, thanks for the answer, I get it, so bing will refund you the cashback after you made the purchase right?

And the 25% is gone now there is only 10% and the $300 off coupon is expired too... I am sad now... :(

anybody has received their envy 17? is there any problems on envy 17 so far?

if you want 2 drive brackets and 2 cables, and ssd, the cheapest way I see is to order the 2x320GB model and buy the SSD separately (SSD not available to purchase on this model as of right now for some reason anyway).

Yes, you'll get the rebate (I feel weird calling it a "refund") through Bing. However, you should note that it's not an instant process, and they take at least 60 days until they can proceed to offer you your rebate. During this 60 days, your Bing cashback will be locked into a "pending" status; this is probably just to make sure you don't return the purchase or anything. After the 60 days are up, you'll be allowed to claim your rebate.

I JUST started using BCB, so I might have missed some info here. Can anyone else add to it if necessary? Thanks.

Haha, you're right- I should be content with what I got. But it's strange... I can't help but feel like they just might include a second mount for the heck of it. I have my theories, but it depends on whether or not the Envy 15, which has dual drive capabilities, has each primary and secondary drive mounts listed separately in their parts catalog.

Soooo...can any Envy 17 owners here confirm just how bright the backlit keyboard's LEDs are? Someone else here reported that they're really dim unless you're typing in a no-light environment.

I'd actually find too bright to be annoying. I just want it for the utility, so low light situations is all I care about. Hopefully there's a way to adjust so that all of us can get what we want. ^^

Ok, who here has watched the Youtube video of HP's Berry Ferris introducing the ENVY 17 more than a billion times?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh4HWZpDgRU

I mean, there is such a lack of any form of information on the net right now about the ENVY 17 that I have to resort to replaying that video over and over again just to satisfy the anticipation of my order that never seems to want to ship

    Are we there yet? :p

kiwi style, I need your updates ASAP!

During the day it's hard to see if it's on or off. Night time it's fine, it's not that bright but it's bright enough to type with. The light is bright if you look under the keys (put your head down near the keyboard level) but a lot of the light seems to be trapped under there. The top of the keys do not get much of the light, if any.

Yeah I wonder the same question, if the listed spec are true at this price, then I will go for it... but I read another thread and no one seems to be sure about that, has anyone called Amazon to ask for that?

    -- Edit --

And there is no info about warranty, can we trust this? any advise?

Im' not sure if anyone answered this, but it'll say when you start up your computer what button to press (when the giant HP logo first appears), then hit that button until you go into the bios. The Envy15 and 17 are by default set up like a macbook pro; f# does the secondary function by default, fn+f# does f#, but you can change it back to standard operation via BIOS.

I would love to get a look at the heatsink/fan combo on the 17. Are there online manual pics of those components? Hoping its an all copper setup like with the Envy 15 with 2 fans (at least).

Ended up giving it to my sister for an undisclosed sum rather than returning it. I found OSX to be impractical for my needs.

Also I'm looking into a bigger screen size. I'm too used to 15.6." I'd go for the Envy 15 if they'd discount it down again AND upgrade it with a LED backlit keyboard.

Just finished playing my first game on my Envy17, for some reason it's working now, it wouldn't play anything last night, I guess the RAM has fixed itself??? Oh well I'm getting a new one anyway.

Anyhow, after around 15 minutes of gaming, the top left vent is almost too hot to touch, the fan is on high and is pretty loud. I will install the software that monitors temps and report in more detail.

What's a good program to monitor cpu/gpu temps???

Slight addition to this, the white letters on the keys themselves are translucent so the letters do light up. It's not bright so your eyes won't get irritated, just bright enough to see.

So guys, I got off of the phone with Amazon regarding the Envy 17 listed here:

    Amazon.com: HP ENVY 17-1011NR 17.3-Inch Laptop: Computer & Accessories

Now, take this with a grain of salt cause I think the agent was just reading from script. The agent said that the technical specs listed are what they are selling the Envy 17 as.

This seems like fooey, cause the same configuration from HP is $2274.99. I'm not sure who to believe. If Amazon is way cheaper, then I might just cancel my HP order.

Thanks for all the updates Jaxxy.

could I ask you for a bit more detail on the noise level from the fans?
would the noise bother my girlfriend, who would be watching tv next to me on the sofa, whilst I was playing a game? I know it's very subjective, but the fan noise / temperatures seem to be the only downside to the Envy 17 so I'm trying to get all the info I can, including impressions.

I wouldn't do that - when this first popped up on Amazon it was a mixture of Envy 17 and Envy 13 info and when I spoke to Amazon their rep admitted the info was "probably not right" -- but that was before May 19th so they had the excuse that "it's not yet released" ---- not so sure why they haven't updated it but I don't trust it.

It is louder than my Dell (which is whisper quiet) but I wouldn't say it's too bad.
I guess if it was going full speed then it may be noticeable if during a quiet movie, but if it was idling then you wouldn't hear it. I think I saw a document which lists the decibel readings, I can try and find it if you want?

    Koshinn:

I just want to be sure about what you said. I have a program that needs the F keys [F2, F3, etc] to function without having to depress the FN key in addition to the specific F key.

According to what you say, the envy 17 requires you to depress FN key prior to using the F keys directly. BUT you can change that back to not having to press Fn keys by making a change in the bios. Is that correct? How in the bios can you change this? I assume the other use for the key [i.e. turning off internet, etc] would now require depressing the FN first. Is that correct?

Are you certain this is possible on the envy 17?

That's not a bad deal with the i7-720 and the 8GB RAM actually. But if you ordered using the $300 off coupon, I'd go with HP's online store obviously.

I was wondering the same question too, and I want to get it asap, if you say so, then I think I can trust you and Amazon, there are still few more things tho: the Amazon site doesn't mention the warranty of the product, I guess that's one year basic? And it says 2-4 weeks built time, that is tooooo long.
Thanks for the information, so are you gonna cancel the HP one and go for Amazon?

I'm going to see how much I can push HP with my current order. I'm still doubtful of Amazon. When I receive the laptop from HP, I have 21 days to return it. If when I receive my laptop, Amazon has not changed their details, then Amazon will get my business and I'll return the laptop to HP.

Even with the $300 off coupon, HP is more expensive than Amazon for the same configuration.

AFAIK all Envy 17 memory is 1333 -- the 1066 only applies to the Envy 14

This is truly one of those "too good to be true" advertisements..... but Amazon is pretty reliable and stands behind their merchandise -- plus I found this being promoted on LogicBuy which is heavily weighted towards HP equipment -- but couldn't find the model number on HP's website (or anywhere else). I do notice the LogicBuy ad says the "deal" expires on June 1st which is when the US Envy 17s are supposed to ship. Probably a kind of "pre order" to stir up interest -- I notice the Amazon ad says "2 to 4 week delivery".

Still --- very tempting -- even with the 25% BCB my Envy 17 from Hp.com is costing me $1900+ and the only additions over this are 2 x 500G HD (this is 2 x 320G HD) and the 9-cell battery 50% off ... tempting

It seems that the top left vent is where all the heat goes. After gaming are the palm rests uncomfortable, or is it just the top left vent? If it is just the vent, that's not too bad then, one does not normally rest their hands there.

I had a lengthy chat with HP.com and here's the scoop on the Amzaon deal. Amazon contracted with HP for the Envy 17-1011NR -- what they're advertising is a pre-configured model that will only be sold by Amazon.com -- they are not yet in production which is why Amazon is advertising delivery "within 2-4 weeks". But otherwise they're the "real thing" -- just as described by Amazon.

So if I cancelled my Envy 17-CTO which is supposed to ship next Tuesday, I can save around $800 less the Bing Cashback of $575 I'll get in 60 days, and will get 2x320G HD vs 2x500G HD, 8G vs 6G or RAM, but give up the 9-cell battery. Of course, I won't see my new Envy 17 for another month.

Hmmm.... food for thought but I sure don't feature that added wait time.
