Just ran the burn test because I suspected throttling on my cpu and sure enough I am in the same boat as slotti. I am running the 2820/8gb/750gb 5400. I attached a screenshot of it running. Any suggestions?
huge letdown getting the 2820 and not even being able to use it!

I am about to do a fresh install on an SSD. Has anyone sucessfully done this and gotten all features running? What order did you install the items in the swsetup folder??
-
If you're able to get everything up and running smoothly please pm me your steps/approach to doing this. I've been thinking of getting my own SSD and I would like to know this information as well.
-
I did a fresh install on an SSD. After backing everything up and installing windows I installed the video drivers via the steps fiver provided:
1. Install Intel HD Graphics driver downloaded directly from Intel
2. Install ATI graphic provided from HP from swsetup or support.hp.com
3. Reboot
4. Install Catalyst 11_3
5. Reboot
After that I installed tridef from:
DDD USA Inc :: TriDef 3D for HP ENVY 17 3D - Verified
Then applied then ran the file "HP.trideflicense" from the tridef folder found in programs X86. After that I just installed everything else I wanted. I didn't install coolsense. So far I havn't noticed any real benefit. In the past few days I've peaked at 61C. Hope this helps. -
yup i just got the email that my system has been shipped. i am totally shocked. but i still have to call them regarding my credits cause they are screwing me on the last 10% refund from the last delay along with my first credits. looks like i'll be having some fun on the phone on monday
-
Try to set Coolsense to the middle option (Performance optimized or something). Worked for a couple of us.
-
Nice!
So....guess I'm last.
What is it they say? Best for last? HAHA! That is way over rated....
You guys enjoy your Envys. Oh, and don't forget guys, if you are able to, please upload some awesome YouTube videos to the video thread. I hope to have the Envy by next week.
KJ
-
KJ i hope you get yours too soon. you have been waiting the longest and we all want you to enjoy the Envy 17 3d.
the trick is you gotta stop caring because when you least expect it you get a pleasant surprise in your inbox. -
Ordered my first on 3/2 and received it on 3/14. Sent it back on 3/15. Ordered my present one on 3/18 and received it on 4/14....original ship date was 4/8. You are due for a surprise in your inbox. It will be a relief to us all when you do get it. Can't wait for your first few posts about the SSD experience. Once we get you tricked out...are you gonna be happy!
-
Did you make adjustments to your power applet in Control panel. Set your minimum processor power on battery to 30% and set maximum to 100%. Then on plugged in set both to 100%. This should help keep you from throttling
-
You really only need step four if you want the drivers included with the 11.3 package.
FWIW I found that I bang on the brightness hotkeys enough that I run the old HP drivers. I'm willing to give it a few weeks to see how 11.4 works, or to see if myself or someone else can develop a fix for the hotkeys. -
Bob you are a genius...I was having a few issues with the throttling but this totally fixed it, thanks buddy.
-
Ok Wiki says yes but it depends at what colour depth at 2D etc as you can see in the image below.
I dont suppose someone with a 2560 x 1600 camapile 2D monitor could spare the time to try HDMI to Dual Link DVI for 2D max resolution?
Also as you see in the diagram below also from Wiki 3D HDMI 1.4 isn't equal to HDMI 1.4a as the later gets 1080p60 support.
So it begs the question is the ENVY HDMI 1.4a?
Thanks again -
Yike's, how much $98? Have done a Ebay china search for the equivalent adapter?
-
Unfortunately, that did not work for me. Thanks though.
-
Is this just an estimate or is there some way to check that?
-
Just finished running Vantage and 06 after my clean SSD install. CPU temp maxed @ 80C, GPU @ 70C
-
For intel SSD's it is stored in the SMART Attributes
Open the Intel SSD Toolbox, and then click on Check Smart Attributes -
WOw this thread is getting REEEAALLLY technical lol
-
Vin. I have the same problem. Tried everything (Drivers, configs etc etc)
Came to the conclusion that the port requires a TRRS male plug to make the mic/audio headset compatible.

I have ordered one but have yet to receive it.

I will post my results on tuesday. -
What a terrible shame.
Would you like to talk about your day? Because I would like to talk about mine. I feel compelled to share my feelings on the internet but normally hold back. Give me your permission and I will unload. -
Interesting. I look forward to your results.

No rebooting, just freezing. Its random and not limited to time either. I left it downloading games on steam overnight and no problems in the morning. Then I left it again to carry on downloading some more (lts of downloading!) it froze. Then later in the dat i was surfing you tube and it didnt like it and froze.
The only constant is that Im connected to the net - either steam or net etc. Which does make the Wifi the likely suspect. I havent had time to do the driver yet - but did see that the latest on the intel site is 13.5 - yet I have 14.2 - maybe there is a problem with this driver as its not available on the intel website. -
Haha fiver, you are the man. This thread would be a lot worse-off without you, that's for sure. Lots of technical knowledge...which is an express reason this thread exists! -
I've been busy with work and actually finished registering my Envy Thursday night and am making the restore disks (middle of the 3rd one) as I type this now and other than about a 4 to 6degree F, of course, I don't do C; temperature I don't notice any unusally high temperature to the touch; did I just get lucky and score a cool Envy?
-
It is believed to be a wireless card issue. There was a suggestion that only one driver fixes this behaviour.
I am experiencing this freezing issue as well and will be trying to obtain an Intel Centrino 6300 in the hope of fixing this. -
Mine remains fairly cool as well. The highest I've seen it so far is about 61C running some 3D stuff and running a few hard drive tests. Most of the time I keep it off the cooler. The air coming out of the vent is barely warm. I personally think its running cold compared to my old HP TX2000 which was rarely lower than 79C and usually stuck around 95C on anything above light web browsing.
-
Well, on my VAIO MPC-HC doesn't (can't) hijack the volume/mute function keys, so I still think that it's simply a poor implementation by HP (just like their other software).

Can someone help me out??? So I have a 40Mb connection but for some reason the highest I can get is around 20 I already installed the old driver but thats the only reason I even got to 20 before it was around 8-10. I really dont wanna have to open it up to install a new card especially since this should be working perfectly fine for the money we pay for it. Anything else that I could try?
-
I might regret this but PERMISSION GRANTED. Wait, why am i giving you permission?! O.O Prolly because i have a feeling you going off on someone would be.. well this is the internet, so it would be epic
-
WHAT?!?! Guy, what the hell are you rambling about?? You alright? Want me to call someone?
-
Love it
-
Oh boy if we start doing tell all stories in here...
Just you wait and see...
Some Jerk Off will come in here and claim it started when they were 11:wub: ....
And now 28 years latter they are positive that it is incurable:cry: ...
...Lets not get there!

-
whoohoo KJ! its about time for you
-
\
anyone else catch the implication that HP must certainly have made a hardware/cooling system change SOMETIME between the original Envy 17 and today's SB Envy? I bet there are no original Envy 17 owners with peak temps this low... -
Good news for you guys and my 2:30 to 3:40am I can't sleep so lets clean the kitchen and then see whats up in here is working out for all of us, you guys getting your computers... I'm happy for you ESPECIALLY KILLA JOE!!
Oh yes; it all started when I was around 11 about his time of the night when I was sure everyone was fast asleep...... -

You know something funny, I kinda feel like
Bobmitch is another version of you. Don't ask, lol.
P.S. I'm a bit confused, I always thought fiver5 is a guy, so not so?
fiver5, sorry for the confusion.
KJ
-
Holy $%@& is that your default font?
-
THUD! Uh...I'm awake...I'm awake! Think I passed out there for a minute...Glad I picked Wednesday for delivery. Do I wiin the pool???
That is phenomenal. Let the fun begin! -
Users are having the same issues. The Intel Centrino 6200 doesn't like certain routers / access points.
I also had bandwidth issues with heavy down throttling. I changed my router and haven't had an issue with the speed since (g mode on the router and 6200).
I do however experience freezes that require a hard reboot during too many open connections with utorrent. (Too many open high seed torrents at once)
From a brighter perspective.. the 6300 is cheap and the laptop card can be replaced by the user without much hassle. -
Sorry fiver5 I thought you were a guy as well...my b.
-
I used linksys E series router, havent updated the wifi driver and no freezing so far. I noticed it also there is a small opening gap on the down left of the laptop (not something like you can peek inside the laptop), but still annoying. Anyone have the same cosmetic issue?
