One of the selling points of the HP ENVY 17 was the ability to run 3 external monitors through its 3 external monitor ports. The VGA and MiniDisplay ports seemed to do nothing on my machine within 8 months new, and the remaining HDMI port is now creating problems at 18 months of age. The external display goes on/off. The display I use is a Samsung LD220 that also comes with USB, so I can also use the USB port as an external display but this is on/off as well. The external display works fine on other brand laptops.

** I am wondering what is the key root cause of the gradual degradation of my HP ENVY ability to use external displays? Could it be a hardware part replacement is needed inside or just a general clean up required? I have never opened the case or had time to service the unit which has worked well otherwise. The ability not to use external displays is turning me towards other brand names in future.

I generally run the unit only on Intel GPU as I am not a gamer and not like to overheat the unit with the AMD GPU on.

    Appreciate any advice thanks..

Are you using the stock HP drivers? .. or did you upgrade to something newer?

I'm using all the latest drivers off of this forum now, but have also down a factory reinstall from the image file and get the same result.
