HP ENVY x360 - 15m-dr0011dx

Im not into writing alot but i think id do this small user review as i had very little user info aside from reviews online...I got this laptop new for 529.00 which at the moment was within my budget i was looking for an everyday machine that i can use at home. The idea came to me when i bought a Pavillion X360 for the wife which she didn't use and i ended up installing 16gb ram and a 500gb nvme ssd to go along with the 1TB hdd it came with..been using it for a bit and enjoyed it for the price..that machine i got for 400 on amazon and i thought it was a good deal for an 8th gen i3. Anyhow back to this machine....This is my second ENVY i have a 7th gen 2017 13"...i got this under the impression i could install a 2.5" HDD to have enough room to store my media and programs....nevertheless on this revision HP has eliminated the 2.5" HDD and i don't think i can install it without changing the battery to another one as there is no space for it.....this was a bit of a let down but hey what can one do....so the build quality for this price is very very good..its all metal, very sturdy and stylish..this one has a 55Whr battery in it. The keyboard is decent a bit cramped due to having the numpad, no complaint there, it works just fine..feedback is good and i rarely miss a key. It is backlit with 2 levels of intensity which is a upgrade form the 13" envy i have which is on/off only. Taking it apart is a bit of a pain as u have to remove the rubber strips to access the screws... just be very careful, if not order em form HP they will send u some for free if need be. The speakers on these are amazing, as the pavillion x360 we have the are tuned by B&O and they sound very good...comparable to my 2018 MBP 15" which costs 5 times what this cost. The hinges seem sturdy enough though the ones on the inspiron 7000 2 in 1 are more sturdy...But these are much more stable than the ones on the pavillion, i believe HP did revise these at some point this year as the ones i saw at BB which was an older modell wasn't as stable as this one.or maybe it was just worn out.The dell inspiron 7000 15 2 in 1 is also a good machine but it would've set me about 200 more almost and i was on a tight budget....the trackpad uses precision drivers which make it real nice to use just need to get accustomed to the surface. The one and truly one complaint i have and its not a deal breaker, again i paid 529 bucks for it including shipping and all... IS the screen...its a nice IPS 10 point touchscreen, colors are decent once calibrated ,touch response is on point..but why for the life of me did HP sacrifice what could've been the best bang for ur buck laptop with a dimm screen...it uses the same screen as the pavillion X360 which to me is a very strange decision considering the envy is a premium product in comparison...i gambled on them using a bit better screen thinking this was an envy....Again it is very usable but coming form a surface pro 6 , a MBP and an ENVY 2017 with the QHD display this thing does not compare ,,it is rated for 220nits according to panellook and it shows. It is dimm, i use it mostly at full brightness...battery life is decent i'm getting around 6-7 hours on normal use....performance is on par with the quad core i5 8265 /16gb ram and a sabrent rocket 1tb nvme drive i have in it...stock nvme and 8gb ram was also adequat, no complaints there..fingerprint reader is fast and works great... i love the camera kill switch on the side and I/O is sufficient for its price point...the one thing really i can take points off is the dimm screen not the colors nor response just how dimm it is....HP had almost created the perfect laptop for its pricepoint in my opinion..i see these around the 600-700 mark normally and with a screen say 250-300 nits it would be the one to rule them all....just my 2 cents..also i got the 15" version thinking i could use 2 HDD in it between a 2.5" and nvme everything i saw or read online form the 2018 model indicated this and couldn't find enough info online to notice the change for 2019...IM going to be very Clear on something if at 700 bucks u should test one out i wasnt sold on a 2 in 1 it was just a matter of it being the right one for the right price but the touchscreen adds to the experience....also if u can get it between 500 and 630 it is a good bargain for more id consider the dell inspiron 7000 series just for the nicer screen also it is easier to get into.....but again i was trying to stay within my budget and a deal online for 529 on ebay for a new laptop of this build and specs is very rare to me. If i would've known about the HDD thing id probably would have tried ot get a 13" one but for the price i havent found one with 16gb ram..the one tihng i like is i could upgrade the ram on it which on a 13" i couldnt and configs with 16gb ram are rare the screen on that one is very good....hope this helps

 

ONe thing i think they could improve is touchpad size....i guess they wanted to use the same part on the 13" as 15" but id say utilize that extra space and make it a bit taller no wider...its wide enough
