That IS insane - the FX3700M is a $1400 upgrade from the ATI card and $975 from the 2700M. Dell's price is $400 from the 2700M. I think there are some glitches on that page...

I did a test and configured it with WUSXGA TrueColor, FX3700M, BluRay.

Got the price to be almost $6000. What a bargain!

How easy is it to change the CPU? I suppose the graphic card can also be replaced.

It's less than $500 to upgrade to the Quadro FX 3700m from the 2700m for the Thinkpad W700. HP needs to work on their pricing system.

probably not before lenovo will have led backlit display as an option..

anyhow, 3700m upgrade is $400 on precision m6400, and identical hw with ccfl
backlit display (w. exception - 7.2k rpm hd drives) would cost $3.378 or $3.133
with minimum hd option (2x 80 gb 5.4 k rpm), so, the price is just ok..

Hmmm, if I follow the link I only get:

No models are currently available for purchase.

I guess hp.com is reading this thread ;-)

It doesn't cost that much to upgrade the screen, Lenovo or Dell maxed out specs at ~$4500, HP is at ~$6000, that's not ok. Plus, the other 2 have dual hard drives, HP doesn't.

On the Dell US site I could configure a system and get it at 4691USD with the following differences: only 4GB RAM (a 6000 USD HP had 8GB), no LED screen (this is 1000 USD for the Dell from what I read on other threads here, while on HP is 400USD), no BluRay.
HP charges more for the 3700M and less for LED display, Dell does exactly the opposite. If you want a system with 3700M and LED, in the end you'll have to pay roughly the same.
