Hii,
It becomes quite annoying now. My CPU idles @ 50-55C
That's hot, because I see much 45C idle in the owner thread.
Is there any way to knock them to mid 40? I have the lastest bios version.
Tried everything from active to passive power settings.
CPU: i7 720QM
Important to know is that I use a 90W adapter.
Strangest thing is that the 120W adapter would be even hotter (?) That's impossable, the heat???
Don't tell me it's a performance machine, that has higher average temps.
It's gets hot when playing bad company, but idle is far to warm for doing .. nothing
Is there any way to adjust CPU fanspeed? (I already tried speedfan, no solution)
I'm sure it could be much cooler, because when playing games or running benchmarks,
the system cools very well and quick.
I think CPU fans are just running at a too low percentage...

Which Envy? 15 gen 1, gen 2 or 17?

Idle temps DO NOT MATTER. I dunno how many times i have to repeat that. My DV9000 idles at 45-50C undervolted but what really matters is that full load temps don't go past 75C with 30C ambient temps.
My DV5 on the other hand... Hits the low 90s no matter what you do to it. Idles at 70 or so... It's just too cramped. So don't worry about it. Run IntelBurnTest and if your temperatures under that don't exceed 80-85C you're doing just fine. -
First gen envy 15
Idle does matter, because the casing is metal.
60C can be cool on one notebook but hot on the other.
It feels hot, because of the notebook being a heatsink himself.
I just want to have some reasonable temps when typing in word.
I don't complain about warmth when under load. I complain because idle is almost same temp as load ... -

I use the Zalman NC-1000 laptop cooler whenever my Envy 15 (2nd gen) is on AC power and the underside becomes cold to the touch, even when running graphics intensive apps. If I want to use it on my lap, for example while sitting on the sofa, then I unplug it from AC and use the slice battery for insulation. I have no overheating problems whatsoever.

Buying 2nd gen isn't a solution...
@moviemarketing
What are you idles without notebook cooler and with the zalman? and load? -
I'd recommend undervolting but I don't think that's possible with the i7. -
So it's just a mistake by HP that can't be solved?
The cooling is good, but the fanspeed is idle too low...
HP Envy , high idles
