Hardware configuration seems very close to Macbook Air

I liked the looks of the first Envy 133 more than this, though this has a nice punch. This one looks like they're trying too hard to copy Apple.

Copying Apple on the hardware front is not a bad thing, considering they have a solid case design, except for the odd keyboard and lack of ports. It's better than the plasticky designs on most laptops.

Laptops are always a bit overpriced when they're released. Wait for a month or so and you'll see prices drop. Plus, it's nearly the Holiday season which means a ton of deals/coupons by then. Still, I wonder whether they could bring it down to Mac-like prices.

Man. Did you guys see that magnetic battery that "clips" on to the bottom of the laptop? Wow. That is the sickest thing I've seen on a laptop. From what I can tell, it barely adds any height since it's basically spread across the entire bottom of the laptop....

Rolling around with ~14 hours would be awesome.

The Envy 13 looks great...but I have question regarding power.

What's the power of the processor on this thing like (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SL9400 running at 1.86GHz)? Along with the discrete GPU, is this strong enough for photoshopping and lots of multitasking?

I am coming to the U.S. in December, and was planning on ordering a new laptop in November for delivery to my family's house there, so I can have when I arrive and take back with me to Southern Africa (where the prices of laptops are too high, and with poor selection).

I've been wanting to purchase a premium laptop...as my last 3 laptops have all died or become virtually unusuable prematurely because of poor quality control issues (including my last, an ASUS w7s dying after 1.5 years because of extremely poor heat control).

I've seriously been considering ordering a Sony Z...but those ongoing battery drain issues are deterring me. Otherwise, I can't seem to find a good laptop that combines power with excellent build quality and portability.

Hoping this is could be the one!

Don't need to double post, I answered your question in the other thread.

thanks...sorry, i don't get on the internet nuch where i'm at for the next few weeks (rural mozambique)...so was hoping for a quick answer :)

hope this would vastly exceed the hp laptop i currently use from work...it's a hp 6710b...awful awful build quality...i literally get electrical shocks by touching some parts of the external casing. but maybe i'll give hp the benefit of the doubt and hope that their premium line build quality justifies the price ;)

HP and Dell have had such batteries for a while. The 6930p with said battery supposedly reaches 24 hours if you throw in a 25W Penryn, an SSD, and an LED LCD.

Gigantic they are though. HP's business one is 2 pounds alone.

As for the 6710b, it's a lower end business machine. Give the higher end EliteBook series a spin. Love mine.

Well if it's spread across the bottom it just means the weight is evenly distributed. Doesn't make it any lighter. A 2lb brick or a 2lb stack of paper is still 2lb. :p

These new batteries are probably Li-polymer, unlike the Li-ion cells, these Li-po batteries can be put into many shapes. Li-ion have to be in battery sized "cells" which adds weights and are in annoying shapes. :p

The only thing that is concerning me is the fact that it has the dual graphics cards. That typically doesn't play nice in linux. If I see evidence that it can either switch smoothly or not take a tremendous battery hit running constantly on the 4330 I'm sold. Anyone have any information regarding any of these things?

If this laptop comes down in price (to around $1000-$1200), and gets some really great reviews . . . I could see the U330 leaving me soon, lol.

It's an Apple Macbook-Macbook Air competitor so I think that it will come in the same price range

I can't wait for this! I'll definitely be getting one before year's end.
