I have HP Envy 13 with Windows 7 (64 bit). I'm having similar display problems with latest versions (4 & above including 8) of Firefox and version 9 of Internet explorer. The title bar seems to be never in place. Maximize/minimize button random place the windows in the old style title bar and the new title bars with only tabs. If I maximize the window, it automatically comes back to restored window. It also shows two set of minimize/maximize/close buttons at times.

I researched a lot about this and seems like it is the display driver that is causing the problem together with the new software/hardware acceleration features in the new versions of both IE and Firefox. I have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 running the most recent driver that HP released in 2009. Since then HP has not released any update and trying to install the latest driver from ATI's website doesn't work because HP prevents installation of driver from anyone else but HP. In any case, it is only my hunch that latest driver would fix the issue.

    Please help.

In firefox there is no option to enable or disable hardware acceleration. It seems to automatically detect whether to use hardware acceleration or not. I have tried that option as well and it didn't fix the issue.

After searching for the answer for several hours, I found out that this is NOT related to graphics card or to the new acceleration features. This was due to preinstalled junk that HP put in called "Stardock WindowsBlinds" or "MyColors". This is installed as a services and starts automatically when computer start. So start->run type in "services.msc" and then setup the service named "Stardock WindowsBlinds" as Manual startup instead of Automatic and restart your PC. After reboot the windows theme created by Stardocks will not be there and it'll look pretty ugly but you can change the theme by right clicking on Desktop and Personalization and then choosing one of the Windows default themes. I can't believe how fast my PC is now after choosing the "Windows Classic" theme. Thanks but no thanks to HP's junk.

Hopefully this saves someone else some time!
