Hello! I'm having an issue where I can't get any audio from my internal speakers after having used the HDMI output. Here's what I've tried to do to fix it:

    Updated the firmware to f.23
Updated the ATI display driver w/ HDMI audio
Verified that the audio is turned up

Has anyone had a similar experience. This happened to me once before and I stumbled upon the fix, but I can't remember where it is. I believe the change I made previously had to do with the ATI Catalyst Center. Any help is appreciated!

Right click the volume adjustment (the small speaker icon in the bottom right tray next to the time), click "playback devices", set speakers and headphones as default

Thank you for the response. I've done that too with no relief. *sigh* I think it's buried somewhere in the Catalyst Control Center but can't seem to find it.

As far as I know, when you connect HDMI out, you intend not only video to be displayed on an external source, but also the audio. I mean, where are you outputting the stream to? Is it to an HDTV? Is the tv *if the output source* is the volume on the tv up? It will not come out of your laptop speakers, just the output device you connect your HDMI to.

As a side note: When first tried to play a Bluray movie on the Envy 17 3D, the sound only came from my laptop and not the TV. That was sad, but I found out I had to go into the MediaSmart DVD player and adjust output audio source to TV.... Anyway, hope I gave you some good ideas. Welcome to NBR. :p

Hey Killa Joe, I'm having an issue with it now that I've unplugged from the HDMI - no audio from the laptop speakers. If I plug back into the tv via HDMI, the tv pumps out the sound.

ohhhhhhhh, that is weird indeed. Well, here are a couple suggestions I'd try:

    1. Unplug all external devices from all ports and do a restart of the laptop.

    2. If #1 does not solve your issue, I'd put in the disk and boot it with the Media Smart DVD player. You should have the setting and tell it to just play the audio from your laptop speakers. I would do a step by step with you, but I did return my Envy so until I get the new one.....I do hope you can get it going...

    3. If you are unable to get it working with the above 2 steps, step #3 is kinda of the obvious ....uhm, call the special Envy tech # listed on that rectangular black glossy insert in your box. They are pretty good, and if they can't fix it, they might say its hardware or something which I would hope not. Anyway, let us know how it resolves.

P.S. Of course update all drivers, bios, whatever you need to if you haven't ...again, HP Envy tech support should be able to help you with this more.
