    Hey,

I reformatted my HP Envy 14 and installed all the drivers and everything is working fine (wifi, trackpad, audio, switching grapics etc). However, I have noticed that every once in a while that when I plug in something to either of the USB ports, whether it be a wireless mouse, wired mouse, hard drive, flash drive etc. the wifi will turn off. Instead of seeing 5 bars on the notification area, I see empty bars with a red x.

I have no connection, torrents stop downloading and I cant access the internet.

I have to restart the computer or scan for problems until it eventually resets the wireless router. Does anyone know how to fix/prevent this issue, its not always replicable but its a pain in the !

EDIT: It's telling me that the wireless capability is turned off and it is suggesting me to turn on the wifi switch on the front or side of the computer. I dont think the computer has a switch and my wifi breaks without me clicking any buttons (the f10 key doesnt seem to work anyways)

Reinstall intel chipset drivers and wifi drivers. In that order.

you also may be having power scheme issues either in the main power scheme or the wifi's power scheme

Magus, can you please elaborate. I don't know what a power scheme issue is.

click on the battery icon on the task bar. click on more power options.

on the one you're using (probably hp recommended/balanced/whatever) go to change plan settings.

in change plan settings go to change advanced power settings.

under wireless adapter settings change it to maximum performance for both.

under usb settings you may want to disable selective usb suspend too.

I have now come to the conclusion that it is NOT USB related. It was coincidential, but in fact it happens at seemingly-random intervals. Now the only thing I can do to fix it is reboot.

Im going to test the new driver MaguxDraco posted now and see how it goes

It worked great! This happened every 5 to 10 minutes before and now after the update it hasn't happened in the past few hours. Everyone should do it regardless, you have nothing to lose.

New to this forum (or any forum for that matter). Received new Envy 14 7/19. Powers up yesterday and went through initial set up. All seemed to be working fine. Loaded MS Office 2010 and synched with exchange server, all went well. Used easy transfer cable to bring documents, music and settings over from Windows XP Pro laptop. Took about an hour for transfer to complete. Reboot, no wifi. Keyboard indicator light shows wifi on. No bars, Red X on wifi status icon. All diagnostics show hardware is present and working. Troubleshoot says to turn wifi on, it is on. Rebooted, worked ok for awhile (hour or so). Now rebooting doesn't even fix problem. Called Envy dedicated support, they want me to restore to a point prior to doing all the work mentioned above! Tried reinstalling drivers as mentioned in his threads, did the power scheme modifications suggested, not working. Help! About ready to can it and bring it back to Costco.

Have a link to the driver you installed? I tried to install one from a different page and when open it would say installing but never gave me a confirmation that it was completed. Maybe I need to uninstall the old driver first.

I just downloaded the one Magus posted on page one and installed it (I dont remeber if there was a conformation screen) and it fixed the exact problem other people are describing.

My WiFi connection would drop randomly and then reconnect or sometimes would not reconnect without a reset. I switched my router off the "auto" wireless channel selection and chose channel 11. Solved all drops of my connection. Just a suggestion..

For future reference, installing the driver linked above solved my "wireless capability is turned off" problem, at least for the time being. If it continues to fail, I will report back. My issue was on a new Envy 14, freshly formatted.
