    Hi,

New user and new to PCs so please go easy on me!

I recently bought a HP Envy 14 1050ea, everything was working fine out of the box until my nephew convinced me that he could make things run faster. He basically said that there was too much "bloatware" on it and it would be much quicker with a clean Windows installation.

I let him do the installation only to find that the wireless now no longer works! I have tried updating the network drivers from the HP website but with no success. Device Manager says that 2 devices are not working/have errors - Network Controller & Simple PCI Communication Device.

I have tried reading through the many pages of the multiple Envy threads but have not found an answer.

Please, please, please can somebody help me by giving me a step-by-step guide how to fix this?

    Thanks

to get the realtek pci drivers from the hp website working, you need to have an ethernet cable connecting your envy to your router/modem. It should install fine while it is plugged in and connected to the internet.

That should do the trick, pm me if you have any specific questions, I am in the UK as well and most of the americans are snoozing right now i'd imagine.

Hi thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can't see how to pm you.

I tried what you suggested with no success. Have you got any other ideas? I'm starting to think I am going to have to return it....

you definitely don't have to return it, it's easily fixable.

You should have backed up a folder in your C driver called SWSetup before your nephew did a clean install. I have a backup with all the drivers and the swsetup folder, so i can email the ones you need to you if you want it mate. Just find a way to contact me, fb, email, msn or sumin. For some reason i can send you a pm on here

Could I ask if you know which of the files from the link you have provided I need to download and install? I assume it is the file named "Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program (SID:1419849)" from the Realtek PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Family Controller section

Also, do both of the device manager errors/warnings pertain to the NIC?

    Yes.

Also download HP wireless assistant to make sure the wifi card is turned on.

Also download the Intel wifi link driver.

I have downloaded and installed both of those. The HP Wireless assistant tells me that my wireless is on but disabled. It is enabled in device manager but still has the driver error.

    I'm starting to panic now.

    Try this HPQL file. HPQL.zip

Install it and reboot. Then toggle the wifi on/off using the wifi button.

OK, after yet another clean Windows install, plus installing all the relevant drivers from the site linked above. The Network Controller is still showing up with an error in Device Manager! The error for Simple PCI Communication Device has gone but I still cannot enable wifi.

Anyone got ideas before I return this thing?

    Hello All,

I have followed the steps above and still could not get my wireless adapter to work. In HP Wireless Assistant it said that the Wireless LAN Adapter is disabled although I have already installed the Wireless LAN Driver from the page that was posted by 2.0. please help

did you try to enable the wireless lan adapter in the wireless assistant?

did you also make sure to turn the adapter on by hitting fn+f10 (or just f10 if you have action keys turned on in the bios. they default to on).

I know the light usually turns orange when the wireless is disabled, but sometimes it doesn't do that and stays white.

Did that for my envy for a little while til it kinda fixed itself on its own.

Yes I have enable f10, the indicator shows white light. In HP Wireless Asssitant, it's saying that the Wireless LAN is disable in device manager, but I couldnt find my Wireless LAN device in device manager since no driver is installed.

    hmmmm....

weird. are you absolutely positive that it's enabled from the keyboard 'cause like I was saying sometimes my envy showed a white light but it was disabled.

you may want to try unplugging the envy, pulling out the battery, and holding the power button down for like 90 seconds. see if that fixes something.
