I've got the second generation hp envy 14 beats edition with i7. My problem arises whenever I tilt the screen to a certain angle. I would assume that it's a problem with the cable for the lcd.?
    Anybody having anything similar?

I have opened it up and tried to get to the lcd cable but do not have too much experience "under the hood" of laptops so all I could do was check to see if the ribbon cable was actually out of the socket. Everything seemed fine so I reassembled and hoped for the best. The flickering has come back.

To describe the flickering: when the laptop scree/lid is moved to a certain angle or through a certain angle there are neon colored vertical lines that appear on the screen and every once in a while the screen actually goes black.

It is a new laptop and I have only had it for 6 months. I also have the 3 year warranty on it so if the consensus is to ship it back for repairs I will do that. I just don't want to go a week to a month without it. Also if that happens, any advice on shipping back to hp for repairs?

    Thanks

what would your next step be?
should i go through hp to get it repaired?
should i open it up myself and fix it with the pdf manual?
should i set fire to it and collect on the insurance/accidental damage?

Go through hp to get it repaired.

Insurance usually comes with an excess you have to bear.

care to explain that a bit?
any tips for sending my laptop in? keep hdd?

any reason why you chose sending it in versus doing the repair myself?

If you do the repair yourself, it may not be just reseating your cable. You'll have to find a cable with the correct gauge if the cable itself is faulty.

You may request HP to allow you to keep the HDD.
