Just realized yesterday that the HP Envy 14 BEATS version has been removed from the HP website. But it's still available on the quick ship models.
What does it mean?
Is it (or is there any rumor that it's) going to be refreshed or discontinued?
If it's going to be refreshed then I don't mind waiting to buy the new version,
but if there's a rumor it's going to be discontinued I better purchase one quick.
So what do you guys thing?
Will there be a refresh on the envy 14 BEATS version?
And if not, usually does the models on the 'quick ship' section get removed? Because if it turns out that the beats version doesn't get an update I can always grab one from there as I'm interested only in the beats version.
P.S. I know people will say don't wait for new technology because it never ends, buy when necessary. Well I need it but I don't need it right away. Therefore I can wait if something new just around the corner. Get it?
Cheers.

There hasn't been any word on the Envy 14 refresh from HP. In all likelihood it won't be a total refresh, just the new Sandy Bridge CPU's and ATI Radeon HD 6550 (6550 is just renamed version of 5650). Other than those two updates there probably won't be any other changes, b/c the only options HP has are to do that or a complete redesign, but with the delay on 2nd gen i7's and such I don't see a complete redesign all that probable. I'm in the same position you are in terms of being on the fence regarding the purchase of the Envy 14. I am looking at either the Envy 14 or MBP 15, but the extra 600 bucks for the MPB isn't justifiable. The fact that the Envy 13 was discontinued suggests the Envy 14 will be around for a while, but with HP being so mum about any release info I get concerened. I;m probably going to wait for the new Envy 14 b/c the updates to the CPU are definately worth the wait, especially with relation to the i7 and the ability to have switachable graphics (i.e. better battery life). That's the only thing I don't like about the current models, it makes the i7 less portable since it has almost no battery life. Since the new quad dv6/dv7 now having been released with the Envy 17, both with 2nd gen Intel iCore CPU's, I don't see it being a long wait for the Envy 14 to get released as well. At least I hope so....
-
Almost forgot, the new CPU's will also be SATA 6G capable. For me, this is big because I plan on using a SSD in my Envy 14, and with the release of the new Intel 510 SSD, they will be capable of maximizing SATA 3 support.
-
Yeah I have no doubt that the HP Envy 14 line will get a refresh in terms of spec upgrade, but I'm not sure about the BEATS edition since that's the version I'm looking at.
I was afraid when the Envy 14 line is refreshed, the BEATS version will be discontinued for good. :S
Btw, if you use an aftermarket upgrade and have the processor upgraded into (ie i7-620/640m), you'll have an i7 with switchable graphics -
And yeah the extra premium cost of MBP just aren't worthed it for me as well. That's why I'm looking at these eye candy HP envy Beats versions.
-
No one knows. And anything said is mostly optimistic desire, not even rumor.
We don't even know why the took the black version off, though if my delayed order is any sign it is likely due to them no longer carrying that chassis. (My jan purchase is delayed a third time to march 10th). -
Yeah my friend also told me that his got delayed since Jan.
If that's true then I better buy a quick one in case of they don't sell the beats version one anymore -
And oh yeah the quick ship model has a i5-480m processor. WIll I be able to do an aftermarket upgrade and install a i7-640m processor?
-
I would assume that any Envy refresh will be a beats edition. They upgraded all of the DV6 and DV7 to beats so it would seem silly to remove that from the Envy which is supposed to be their higher end laptop.
-
Are you talking about the beats audio or the beats 'appearance' which is the black chassis and red keylight and stuff?
-
Hes talking about the beats edition, the black version. Not the beats sponsorship of hp's audio. (which is a sham).
-
-
I won't lie that this jack can really dole out the amps compared to other hardware, which is a huge asset to me. My phone and ipod can't adequetly power my headphones like my laptop can. But, beats touts it much more that that. And it isn't. In that sense it is a sham.
Not that I'm unhappy with it. Cause I'm not. -
-
Ah I see. Didn't realize that dv6 and dv7 got a beats edition.
I only see the color is now 'midnight black' or something which pretty similar to beats really other than the red backlit keyboard. That color is a 'new' color huh in the dv6 and dv7? -
Oh just saw some threads about the dv6/7 and they are indeed got the new 'beats'-ish color in their update.
So a beats colored (or version basically) Envy should be available on the refresh.
Resolved then. Thanks.
Feel free to give information if there's any news on this topic though. -
Guys I talked to HP Customer Service Rep for quite a while and she told me that Envy beats has parts issue so its not in stock (and also gone from quick ship laptops) but will be available mid-april!!
I asked her if it was new configuration or same old one but she was hesitant to reply and just told me that as soon as parts arrive they will be in production again.
So I am guessing a new refresh will come around that time, otherwise HP's Sales and Marketing team is just dumb -
Seriously though? The quick-ship for the beats is out of stock as well?
I mean they still list it there and it has only been listed for a week.
How could they guarantee it as ready stock where the parts are out of stock?
Other than that, I hope what you are saying is true though. An SB refresh alongwith a batter resolution and graphic card would be sweet.
Will just have to wait until April to see it.

Oh the quick ship model are indeed out of stock. The only option I got now is to wait then..
Fingers crossed for an SB Envy Beats edition -
The beats edition is officially off from the quick ship model.
Hopefully there will be definitely a refresh with the beats edition/ -
Ditto. That black coating is simply sexy. If they'd introduce SB processors, a new GPU, on top of a host of other changes mentioned in the "Dream Envy" thread, I'd be on board for a refresh.

Intel Sandy Bridge dual-cores coming soon | ZDNet
Looks to me we'll at least see other HP notebook lines getting some SB love. Wonder what that means for Beats? -
Not be a total troll or anything. But if you guys can't wait till the forever elusive SB refresh, I have a Beats Edition Envy 14 for sale here...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...ts-edition-beats-headphone-slice-battery.html
I swear by these monster headphone/beefed up audio ports on Envies. The headphones are actually LOUDER and more bass heavy than the onboard speaker. Yes, if you took the headphone off, crank it to max, put it on the laptop, it can fill a whole room. -
Mine ordered in Jan also delayed twice !
I hope your right Jimmyrock, because I will probably wait april.. I'm not at few months now...
I hope they will add again the headphones in the refresh(I'm dreamin')

$825 isn't a bad price at all for that baby considering HP hasn't released too many coupons for the Envy 14 lately. But IMO NBR isn't the best place to post it up for sale. I'd look at eBay.
I, for one, plan to wait for SB upgrades and look into selling my Envy first thing. -
The laptop speakers are very low. Even with the tweaks, its no where near as loud as some of the cheaper laptops ive used.
-
Did you cancel your order? I canceled it because on feb 26th they said that they will ship it on march 11th and I got frustrated and angry! But I was regretting that as few days back as the beats version was totally gone!!
Now I am eagerly waiting for HP's accouncement on monday :S -

Sorry for the terrible quality, I just recorded it in a hurry. Bbut it shows you that the headphone has better bass and clarity than the speakers. -
Hi, how do you know there will be some refresh or news about the Envy Lineup on Monday? -
Oh...and remember. Rumors ARE floating around that HP might sell its PC business. Let's hope not for now. That would add a lot of uncertainty to the fate of the Envy 14. Doubt we'll WebOS on an Envy 14 until 2012. -
The sound level from the Envy 14's onboard speakers is lower and has almost non-existant bass reproduction compared to HP's 2010 Pavilion DV6 line-up (the ones without the subwoofer) as well as many other cheaper notebooks from the likes of Acer and Toshiba. It was the one thing that really turned me off from the Envy.
-
So, I don't know what to do, buy another one (probably the envy 14), keep my order or wait april for the new one (if there is) !
But I think, if they can't build my custom laptop now and if the beats version is gone, I don't know how they can build it with 10 days more... and I will probably lose my time (and get another hp 10% off).
That's weird that HP don't make any communication about the fact that it is out off the market and what will happen next -
) as you have 21-day money back guarantee.
By that time if the new one comes out, then you can exchange it! -
Good news, the refresh is just around the corner, the envy 14 beats edition's price has been dropped to 774.99$Go to the HP website to find it

Here, take a look

I would say we could expect an update within the next week. If you try to configure the envy beats edition there is no more option for a dual core 5650 graphics card. This seems to indicate that an update should occur in the near future.
-
Definitely seems like they're clearing stock, but why aren't they doing it for the regular envy 14 as well?
-
I am thinking they are discontinuing the 14 beats
-
Has it not occurred to anyone here that every time since jan that they have a sale 10 people scream that the new one is coming and they are getting rid of the old. In jan and february they had $500 and $300 and $200 coupons all the time. I understand why you assume that is what is happening but i really think we won't know anything until the day it is out.
-
yep, since decembre they've had numerous sales and coupons, yet no refresh
So when the refreshed finally comes, expect to pay big bucks for it for a while as I dont think they will hand out fat $500 coupons like they did in january / december.
I don't really care about the refresh at that point. I am super happy i got my e14 w/ radiance with that $500 coupon, it runs all the games i want, has good battery life and the screen is drop dead gorgeous, all for a bit more than 1 grand. I'll certainly keep til it dies.
