    I just received my Envy 14, and have been very pleased with it. Although, while I was showing a friend my new laptop, I switched from integrated to discrete graphics, and the desktop background went black. When I switch back to integrated, the desktop image comes back. Also, if I restart the computer or come back from sleep mode while on discrete graphics, the desktop background will reappear. I've tried refreshing the desktop and reapplying the desktop theme after it's gone black (on the discrete graphics setting), but nothing seems to fix this other than restarting the laptop or putting it to sleep. I don't think this is an isolated Envy 14 incident, as I've read of a few Acer owners with similar problems. This hasn't been a problem on my Envy 13, but the Envy 14 is using a different chipset.

    Any similar experiences and/or any ideas as to solutions?

    My Alienware m11x used to have this issue also when switching between the Nvidia and integrated cards.

    I haven't had this happen yet but it's probably just a fact of switchable graphics life.

    I've never swapped with any programs open and don't plan to do that anytime soon

    My Envy 14 had the same thing happen, right out of the box. If you haven't solved the problem yet, here are a couple of suggestions:

    1. Re-install the GPU drivers;
    2. Do a system restore (but you'll have to tweak Norton Internet Security if you have that running, otherwise it will prevent the restore);
    3. If all else fails, do a system recovery, which will wipe everything back to factory.

    I took the system recovery route, but I suspect a System Restore would do the trick.

    Just wondering if you were using the special HP Envy desktop theme at the time this appeared. I've avoided it since, and haven't had the problem reappear.

    I've had it happen to me once.

    but after rebooting it didn't happen again.

    I'm not gonna have anything open when swapping cards (I had stuff open when it happened)
