I'm looking to hook up my envy with a Dell external monitor. It looks like it'll only connect via VGA. I tried looking through the forums here for a cable recommendation but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I'd really appreciate recommendations for cables that you are 100% sure of working. There's been a lot of frustrated posts where users later found that their cable did not work.
I know HP offers one on their website but I'd prefer to buy a cheaper one via Amazon or Ebay. I also think I've read somewhere that the Mac Mini DisplayPort cables will not work with the Envy (unfortunate, because they are so much cheaper).
Thanks!

It is my understand that HDMI is digital and VGA is analog, so the process is not quite so simple as merely getting the right cable. I looked into it, and I started seeing $100+ converters that were necessary. A single cable cannot actually do the connection.

go to newegg and buy the one that has the most Buyer & Rating.

You're going to have more luck with a mini-display port adapter to VGA, as the above poster already said HDMI is digital and VGA is analogue so a simple cable work work.
I haven't tried it out but what you're looking for should be:
For only $15.12 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter | Mini DisplayPort to HDMI / DVI / VGA Adapters -
simple minidisplayport to vga or hdmi cables work, the issue is just with mDP to DVI

I tried to the Mini DP to VGA cable from Apple on the Envy 14 and it does not work. Will a generic one work?

Apple more than likely has some silly protection on it.
HP Envy 14 HDMI - VGA cable??
