So I use a basic headset with my envy that has a 3.5 jack for the headphones portion and then another 3.5 for the mic. For some reason now, whenever I get on Vent the only sound that other people can hear me is from the laptop's integrated mic and not the headset.
This is getting kind of annoying considering the laptop's mic isn't that great, and they say I sound like I'm in a tin can when I talk. I'd rather have sound coming out of my headset's mic rather than the laptop's.

Anyone had this problem or know a fix?

Start > Control Panel > Sound > Recording > choose default mic

and if you are using a program like skype, go to options and choose other mic also if needed.

    Nope, still doesn't work
It doesn't even show that the mic is broadcasting, the headset isn't broken.
Something with the settings is messed up..i dont know

I'm not sure. Probably the one that isn't a usb adapter (unless you wanna try using a usb adapter)

you'd be bypassing both of the headphone jacks and lord knows what the IDT will think about that (it's finicky).

Might as well just try the other one (headset buddy, $15, looks like it's what you need..or at least it plugs into a headphone jack and not a usb port

It can. The issue though is that you'd have to do it through a dual 3.5mm splitter or something.

'cause...yeah. IDT and HP are kinda idiots. Why give us a headphone jack and then a headphone/microphone jack.
