I wanted to buy an Envy 14 so bad, and I was waiting for Christmas to get the massive deals and coupons. But now they don't have the Radiance screen for their premium laptop. Is there ANY ANY news about the 900p Radiance screen?

Is there any news about the 2011 Sandy Bridge and the Envy's? Since 14'' radiance screens are scarce why not make a new 15'' Envy? 15 inch screens should be abundant out there... Then HP can also make a 13" Envy and compete with the 13,15, and 17" MBP line! ^___^

I'm anxiously awaiting to see what the next Envy line refresh is going to look like with the new Sandy bridge processors. If they upgrade the screen with the new processors I'm sold. Imagine the envy with a quality screen like the XPS. It would smoke Dell in sales. The XPS is an ugly machine.

Didn't HP reps say the Radiance screen would be back in stock in December?

Agreed, Envy 14 with Radiance and new Sandy Bridge is a sure success. A touchpad where the buttons can't control the cursor wouldn't hurt either although I hear that the new Synaptics drivers fix this...

Envy line might get discontinued and some new line would take its place.

What makes you think that? :O Whatever line it becomes, it'd better come in Jan. The Pavilion line is probably gonna come out near CES according to recent news, so it wouldn't make sense for the Envy line to stay still any longer.

HP's Top line routinely get discontinued after about 2 years and resurrects as something else. Before Envy was HDX.

I think HP wants Envy to have decent longevity. It is odd to me that I have NEVER seen one in an electronics store.

I just canceled my envy 14 order because I have faith that something will be done to the envy line really soon after CES (preferably during CES). I hope my gamble works out :/. It would really suck if I find out later that I canceled my order only to find out that the new Envy's, or whatever the new name would be, won't debut until Feb or March. ><"

I don't believe in playing games with technology like that. When I decided to get my standard Envy, I new a 3D was on the horizon. I thought it would be a couple of months, but it was actually a matter of weeks. I knew the addition of 3D was not going to be significant for me and that I already wanted this computer with its current specs. I could always wait for something. After that, it could've been Sandy Bridge. And then there's Ivy Bridge. What they add or change may may little or no impact or even relate to your personal interests/needs. I don't say this to encourage you or anyone else to buy now or not to wait. It's more of a personal opinion on the idea of holding off for changes in something that changes as rapidly as technology.

I am well aware of the "don't play the waiting game advice." But best case scenario, HP will add Sandy Bridge and AMD hd 6 series or equivalent to the envy line after CES, which is just a week away. Worst case scenario, they won't do anything until Feb-March. If the worst case scenario happens, I'll just get the Envy 14 from Amazon for $930.

So either way, I'm not going to wait for long.

I dont play the waiting game either but if its a significant improvement then it just might be worth it..I ordered an Envy 14 so if something new comes up in January ill just return it with the 21 day return policy...thankfully theres no restocking fees =D

HP's not so big on CES attendance. April/May/June is usually their thing. Sometimes they do a little at Cebit.

:O So what about those leaks of dv6 and dv7?! Would hp really put sandy bridge on their Pavilion line and leave Envy outdated for months?!?!

If they are planning a new model that centers on graphic performance, then yes. It's happened before.

Im doing the same thing. just kinda worried that amazon might get rid of that deal
but im really anxious to see what might in store for the envy line after CES. does anyone think they will raise the prices on everything once the new sandy bridges processors are added/if they are added after CES?

Hmm.. this is what happened at CES 2010. I have no doubt we'll see something top-of-the-line from HP at CES 2011.

Do you know something we don't or are you just assuming history repeats itself?

It would make sense, though. The main man behind the Envy line (VoodooPC-founder Rahul Sood) recently quit his job at HP to join MS.

The next gen envy with SB processors must have Bluray, USB 3.0, and run cooler with best battery life.

Screen quality (IPS panel) should be the number one priority in upgrades to the Envy line.

assuming they do announce something at CES, does HP usually start selling them right away or is it weeks/months later after they announce it?

i desperately need a new laptop but can wait an extra week or two for any improvements.

Start sucking then...you should have kept your order. The screen isn't coming back and you should have ordered when they had them.

Most everything announced at CES isn't going to be available until at least March at the earliest. It would probably be June before something new from HP shows up.

Want and wait. You're either in the game or not. Just buy what you can today.

I've been looking at the Envy 14 too, and the fact that they discontinued the radiance display is pretty much a deal breaker for me :/ I'm hoping they update the processor, screen, and graphics at CES and will have it readily available...

Last I checked my Envy 17 3D has Blueray, 3.0, and they fixed the heating issue. ;) I'm not happy that it does not have 1.4 HDMI for allowing me to see 3D on external tvs, so I'm returning it in hopes the new version will have 1.4 HDMI support.

P.S. sorry guys, lol, I realized this is an Envy 14 thread...Opppsss :x

Yup got mine with the radiance on order (build 1/26/11) and then my 21 day wait. If a new 14 is out by then I'll be returning and reordering as long as a 1600x900 option is available on it.

Those are just estimates, cushion period for just incase something is not available. I bet your system will be ready in less then a week. Dell does the same thing but last time I ordered my system shipped in less then a week and the estimated build date was like 3 weeks.

true, HP is usually ahead of schedule but they haven't been in the past few weeks..plus with the radiance display back so im sure they'll be loaded with orders so I wouldn't expect an early delivery

I'm in the exact same boat as you are, and have the same plan haha. Honestly if there wasn't a 21 day return policy I probably would of waited, but I figured why not get it and see how I like the line anyway. Hopefully its as good as everyone says. (or at least better than this pavilion dv6000 w/ 1 g of ram and and amd athlon 1.6 ghz processor.)
