One of the main reasons I bought Envy 14 was to improve upon the AVCHD video encoding performance. I have a lot of AVCHD 1080p videos that I needed to join/edit from the raw status they are in right now. So after doing a clean install on E14 with i5 450m and 4GB RAM. I decided to run a benchmark. Here are results
Input: Three AVCHD 1080p video files of sizes 140,90,60MB
Output: 720p WMV file size 118MB
Old System: Lenovo T61 Core2 Duo T7300 @2.0GHz 2GB RAM GPU nVidia Quadro FX 570M Win 7 64bit
New System: Envy 14, i450M, 4GB RAM GPU ATI Win 7 64bit
Final Results: of course it is Apples to Oranges ;-) but needed to find out how much boost I would get in the newer system. It took E14 14.20 minutes while the same video encoding process took 29 minutes on older system. So a performance gain of 200% with newer system. So now hopefully a 2 hour video can be finished over the night.
Few things I observed - RAM utilization was about same in both systems. CPUs were always busy in the 90-98% range on both. Fan noise as reported in another thread is a real problem in HP E14 for these kind of tasks. Lenovo was silent thru out the process. No fan kicked in.
Would be interested in any tweaks to reduce the encoding time further or get rid of the fan noise.
