huh? where did you get that from? the true story is that I originally bought the Envy with the BV display from HP about the same time as I ordered the Radiance display from parts store. I returned the BV Envy as there was a better deal that the Microsoft store offered. Then returned that because HP was selling the Envy with Radiance screen with $500 coupon. That order got cancelled, but ended up getting $700 off and new order with 256gb SSD for same price as original order with Radiance. So waiting for that order to ship and then will finally swap BV for Radiance.
-
. I hope FedEx does Saturday deliveries for Priority Overnight shipping, otherwise my laptop will sit there until Monday... it was originally supposed to be delivered today "by 10:30 AM" but was apparently delayed because of the weather! argh

i am not sure how to react now ... need to wait for 12 more days

About the availability of Radiance at the parts store.
At first when HP canceled my order and sent me a message:
"...Thank you for your recent computer order. Due to an overwhelming response to our Envy 14 series and Radiance Technology we are unable to build your notebook as ordered. Unfortunately, the Radiance display is no longer being made by our supplier. As a result of this supply situation, we have had to cancel the notebook portion of your order. We regret this occurred and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. ..." I was very disappointed but understood the situation.
Now I find no way to justify their behavior.
HP just hit rock bottom by selling Radiance on parts store but "doesn't have any Radiance" and break deals for customers who bought and paid for a new laptop with Radiance display.
Since I'm not a USA resident and ordered my laptop with the help of my cousin, I can't fight this injustice. otherwise, I would have gone all the way with them via the legal path.
I hope this fiasco will create enough waves to make them pay for such behavior, although I'm realistic and know as well as them that they can do whatever they want without any consequences. -
Well, while true that lawsuits against companies "sometimes" will motivate them to clean up their act. I do hope HP has learned something from this episode and will be careful in the future when trying to sell premium products and making sure their "in stock" levels are accurate.
P.S. I can't help but wonder if outside of the NBR forum, there are any unhappy Envy 14 radiance cancelled people who have or plan on seeking legal action against HP. I am not aware of anyone on NBR who has gone the legal route.

Honestly, it's one thing if they ran out of stock and some people got screwed. The fact is that they are STILL selling individual screens for a HUGE profit. It's ridiculous. -

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
Mine had blue streaks in the upper right corner of the screen - looked like you took a medium point blue felt tip writer and drew two straight lines about an inch from the top of the screen, about an inch apart. There were a few other smaller blue marks.
Of all the people with claims on a new Radiance, you would think your and mine would be the least vulnerable - we are both making warranty claims for a nearly brand new computer. If HP sold all of its Radiance displays so that we - and the thousands who bought E14s w/Radiance displays last summer, when thousands purchase these with 2 year warranties, never imagining HP would make the boneheaded move of selling ALL the radiance displays they had in stock for warranty replacements over a 3 day period in January 2011, 4 months or so after they had discontinued the feature due to lack of supply...well, these "legacy" owners (from way, way back in mid-2010!) will wake up one day very soon to find they'd better hope they won't need to make warranty claims for problematic radiance screens - not to mention you holders of ADP warranties who dropped yours and cracked the screen - all I can say is, What A Company!
Seriously I have had many, many good dealings with HP, some of the best were after they've made serious errors. But this time the purchase was for personal use, not business, and it was as a gift to someone who is a graphic artist and who became paraplegic after an accident 3 years ago. I felt so elated to see I could do this for him for so little money. And it will mean getting an MBP 15 with the hi-def screen for $2,300, $1,400 more than the envy and it will weigh an extra pound and, well, be a Mac.
I think I need to pull myself together here; I'm starting to write the kind of posts I used to think sounded pathetic.
Good luck to you. Let's keep each other posted. I also ordered a radiance display from the HP parts dept, but so far have no ETA for the screen and have high doubt that they will fulfill those orders when there are hundreds screaming bloody murder due to canceled orders and another thousands who in good conscience bought them months ago assuming their warranties would be honored. Rotten business, the whole thing. -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I seriously doubt HP is "making profit" selling radiance displays from the parts store while they have to deal with a PR nightmare and possibly legal action for their mass cancellations of orders and refusal to fix/replace screens under warranty. They can be pretty dumb, but not that dumb. Can they?
-
well when u configed a radiance with an envy it was a $200 upgrade from the brighview, so if we assume the brightview is worth $100, then its a total of $300 for a screen. It sells for $330 in the parts store..cant really say theyre making a huge profit. A lot people ordered there the past few days so well see if they come through..all i can say is the tracking in the parts store does NOT work, you have to call to check the true status
-
My only hope is that the parts store and the HP home and office store are almost like separate branches that really don't talk that much. Separate profits to make and separate bottom lines. I remember when trying to talk to HP home and office if they would just give me a refurbished radiance displayed envy 14 from the outlet with an upgraded warranty instead of the 500 dollar coupon they were like it's impossible to even try.
I ordered mine in the same hope that I'd simply get it. Placed it online at the shop and called to confirm a day later and everyone I talked to said I'd receive the part, and no issue about backorder.... but that's what they said about my original radiance envy 14 order : / -
I called the HP parts store yesterday to check on my Radiance order which I made last Sunday. The gentleman told me that i hadn't shipped yet and they had tried putting in tickets to expedite mine to put pressure on the warehouse to get the order out. What I've been told is that I'm supposed to receive it from HP on or before February 19th.
I've pretty much lost faith that will happen, it seems like HP is this big unconnected organization that has no clue what the hell is going on. I love the laptop itself as I took the deal they offered and got my laptop for $700 off, but the brightview is just too low quality of a screen for me. I also was going to buy one from a gentleman on here for $1350 but backed out because I thought I was getting the display from HP but it looks like I might be SOL on all counts now. Shame on me for trusting anything HP or their systems said regarding an item being in stock. -
EDIT: Forgot to mention they did receive my laptop today, at least according to FedEx. The HP Customer Service site hasn't been updated to reflect this yet. And the waiting game begins once again... -
First, I strongly believe that no one should have accepted the deal HP might have given instead of the radiance display. It really feels that HP had a very good clearance sale here, although I do agree that for some of you who do not care about screen quality it is indeed a good deal. I have been watching on HP’s outlet store for months, though, and it is easy to see that HP has been trying hard to get rid of the current Envy line (everything except possibly Envy 17). Most of all, it is highly likely that the new generation of envy series will come out soon (no doubt here, dv6 already has the sandy bridge).
Second, it was a successful test for HP to see how much demand the radiance display (and hence, possibly, the Envy series) can create. I am not quite sure HP really even tried to get enough quantity of radiance displays, and I have been suspicious on this because anyone can tell the demand is high for radiance displays. Well, not to mention that I was quite surprised when I heard the news that the radiance displays were available AND that HP ran out of screens.
Most of all, the BV screen is not worth the money. I don’t know what you may think of the Envy series, but for me it was the best multimedia laptop you could get at a reasonable price: A high-quality design, wonderful keyboard, outstanding display, and the like.
Now any $400 laptop has the same display.
And…well, that is why I went back to MBP after all (I still keep my envy 14, though). In times like these you need to live with the sadness that no one really cares about good display.
p.s. It makes me sad whenever I imagine dv6 with sandy bridge and the radiance display.

I don't know if a completely new generation of Envy's is on tap. Perhaps a tech refresh, yes, but a whole knew line? Hardly.
As to them trying to move "Old" envy 14 laptops, that's likely just them getting rid of back stock to make room. That, or they are getting rid of the i3 equiped machines. Which would make sense. -

A big part of me wants to walk away from the situation and these threads (much as I am addicted to them) and wait until at least mid week next week to see how things unfold. Hard to imagine they are just going to continue unresolved one way or another for an indefinite time. One can hope...

Well, I just received my order (the replacement order with th BV, i5, and SSD). I should receive the Radiance i7 I bought of off ebay shortly. Once I get them both up and running, I'll post pics of the screens.
On a side note, should I charge for a while before turning on to ensure I get the best battery life? -
Will be waiting for your pics as well
.
I didn't wait for it to charge and turned it on... got a system message saying the battery was defective or something. Let it boot into Windows, and turned it off to let it fully charge. The battery seems just fine, did a battery test and it said it was ok, I don't think it affected its life.
However, don't do like I did (even though it doesn't seem to damage the battery), and do what the "Getting started" says: let it charge until the led turns white. It charges quite fast anyway. -
-
Ugh... this is the drama that never ends. Now, apparently the envy with the radiance from ebay was shipped with "FedEx Home Delivery" which only delivers Tuesday - Saturday.

Just wanted to give a heads up that the HP Parts Store now lists the status of the Radiance display (Part# 608366-001) as "Contact HP". Doesn't look promising for those of us who ordered ours from there!
-
Check this out. I am thinking if they refreshed the dv6 and dv7 to look like the envy series and be more powerful that the envy series will be refreshed in march also.
HP's Pavilion dv6 and dv7 get Envy-like features, g-series loses the bargain basement looks -- Engadget -
That actually looks pretty nice, although I bet they will have a trash resolution on both those models...1366x768 on a 15.6 in laptop? Sure thing!
-
Sending it back for replacement...it took 3 hours otp with HP to get them to honor the price I got with the canceled order for a new order (because I didn't want to be without a laptop waiting for the new one I had to place a new order).
Too much keyboard flex and a small bump separated the display/bent the lid - first time using a consumer quality laptop, da*n this thing is fragile! I asked about getting a Radiance given they show them in parts, and 'natch it was a no go. Took a shot. -
So am I right in thinking that you could order the radiance and replace you BV display with it yourself?? Also i was looking here and was intrigued.
HP Envy Laptop Screens
They have some 1600x900 screens listed. Of course it says call for price. I guess the question would be, what kind of quality are these screens. Anyone adventurous enough to take the plunge? -
Very interesting find, I wonder if it's just another dead-end. Got my replacement BV envy 14 today with the SSD, and my refurb with radiance should be here tomorrow. I wish I was at home, I'm getting anxious to play with this thing.
-
I will order from that site if It is under $200 dollars. Does someone wanna link me the guide to dismantle the screen. since I dont just change the whole lid, this may be more difficult. Now im waiting till their open to call and check price and availability.
-
The only solution is refurb outlet. -
why not get a 8440w with 900p screen?
it seems better in almost every way (games being the only drawback).
If you can live with more bulk an 8540w or 8540p is also a good choice in the same price range.
I think my week old Envy 14 is a hunk of junk. No sadness taking it back to the store. -
-
Plus it starts at like $1200 without an operating system, 2 GB of RAM, 250GB HD and lowend I5. the screen costs more plus webcam, bluetooth, WIFI N, for this price I could buy a Sony Vaio Z which has a 1080 and SSD for less than the price of the 8440w..
-
Anyone want to sell their radiance screen for $400 let me know. or a an envy w/ radiance. My girlfriend accidentally knocked it off my bed and cracked the screen. Very bad night.
-
-
Spencerp - You're not the only one...my wife knocked her brand new Envy 14 (with radiance) off the table last night! There is hardly any damamge except the one part that matters...the screen.
Now the screen has dark vertical lines (like the back lighting is not working behind the screen in those areas) and, of course, we didn't purchase the accident protection since every time I do, we never use it. I hate Murphy's Law...
