    So I was reading this article on pcmag.com ARTICLE
    and it says "No graphics switching with the quad-core configuration" so this means that if I were to get the i7 quad-core processor, my battery life is going to go down the drain because I will not be able to toggle the graphics card unless I get the i5 processor?

    Yes, due to the fact that the i7 Quad does NOT have an integrated IGP built in to the CPU unlike the i5's. Therefore, there is nothing to switch to since there is no IGP present hardware-wise on your system. In addition, the i7 Quad was not meant to be used as true mobile CPU. It's TDP is ridiculous and will drain batteries on its own in general. Stick with i5's if you want good battery life in general.
