I've been browsing around the forum for a while now and noticed my issue popping up in a few places, I've tried a couple of fixes but nothing seems to have done the job for me.
I've had my HP Envy 14 for about 8 - 9 months now and I'm getting the horrendous overheating issue.
I used to be able to play CoD:MW2 for hours amongst other games (portal, etc...) but these days I have to run it on the built-in Intel graphics card and keep the laptop above any surface that's not remotely solid.
My main issue is World of Warcraft, it happens in all other games but seems as that's the one I've been playing most I can give the most detailed information on that one.
I have to run it on the lowest settings on my built-in intel graphics card and if I leave the vent end of the laptop (unobstructed) on a bed or even on my jeans (on my lap) it will guaranteed overheat. I can feel how ridiculously hot it gets (Right now with just Chrome open it's at 50 degrees (that's with the room window open so it's quite chilled in here. But with WoW open on 'good' settings if AS turned down to x2 and in 'windowed' mode, standing still in 'The Exodar' (for anyone who knows the place) which is a main city but with players rarely coming here it goes up to ~80. (I'm having the old 'get's mega hot then goes into what I think is 'emergency hibernation'.)
Last night I decided that enough is enough, I've already installed the updated ATI Catalyst centre (about a month ago), I've updated my Bios (about a month ago), nothing else is running apart from WoW and Google Chrome and yet the damn thing still overheats!
I want to open it up and clean out the dust but I'm not sure if it will void my warranty but I don't want to send it off incase:
A. I lose all my data for some reason that HP rattles off to me.
B. Not having my laptop for 1 - 2 weeks is an issue for me.
Can anyone give me some advice on whether it voids the warranty if I open it up, take the keyboard off and clean the vents?
And also does anyone else have any other information on this issue, I'd really like to get it sorted so I can use my laptop like a normal person, I'm genuinely worried whenever I play a game that's it's just going to black out on me again which takes lots of the fun out of my games, especially having to run them on low settings. I'm not a graphics fiend, I did get this laptop because I though I could play games on high settings where ever I go but I'm not too fussed on the whole 'It's got too look perfect turn it all the way up' way of thinking.
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you've never cleaned out the dust, you can just use compressed air and shoot some in the vent through the outside.
Are you using an i7, and do you have the radiance? -
Will just shooting compressed air into the vents on the side clean it out?
And no I have the i5, not sure if I have Radiance to be fair, isn't that the display? How can I check on the laptop itself. I don't think so to be fair. -
Shooting air into the vents on the side will clean it out. After all, the dust gets stuck on the inner side of the heatsink fins, and the easiest way to get it out would be to blow from the outside.
The envy is incredibly easy to take apart if you want to access the fans, there's a service manual on the first page of the owner's lounge.
The radiance is the 1600x900 screen, check your resolution -
Right click on your desktop and click "screen resolution" to find out. -
Well, thanks for that I'll get some canned air and I do not have the radiance screen
