YouTube - HP Envy 14 -
hey guys its obvious the base price (789 USD) wont come with all the good stuff!
Logical base specs include an nVidia 9400m, core2duo, and 1200x600 screen res, I mean come one guys. -
HP measures its thickness at its thinnest point.
-
^ you almost got me.
-
Hey I'm hoping you're right, believe me I do... But there's no way $999 would be the base price when the envy 15 and 13 sell for so much more and the pricing of the envy 14 in europe.. There is just no way.. Call it an educated guess, it just doesn't make any sense... And so what if the director said $999? Prices change.. Again, I hope you're right.. But I'm not holding my breath..
-
What do you do to your laptops?
I've owned 10+ laptops in the last decade and probably another 3 more if you want to go back in the mid-90s when I had my monochrome Toshiba. I've handled dozens more.
I have NEVER had an issue with hinges breaking.
You say the hings break over time implying that more than one laptop you've owned has.
I can understand here and there a hinge breaking over a HUGE population sample but multiple times to the same user...?
I don't want to say it but it sounds like something you're doing. -
I agree with the skeptics. How can the envy be cheaper than the dm4t? try getting a dm4t with i6 and a 5650 for less than a grand. you can't. the dm4t with i5 and a gpu inferior to the 5650 is a grand. I think the envy will be over a grand for all this stuff, unless they are going to drop the price of the dm4t and the rest of their line when it comes out. If so, I'm pouncing on the dm4.

I phoned with HP in Germany. The told me, that the Envy 14 is currently in "certifying phase" (every electric device has to be certified by the governance here). Therefore, the German release date is slight behind the US release date.
So far the bad news.
Now for the good news: The device will be available within the first two weeks of july, maybe even from first of july.
-
Your username suits you nicely.
-
yeah i can't imagine an i6 being under a grand.
-
Lulz. Looks like I need a backlit keyboard.
-
That should be done until end of june, if it already is in this phase.
Great news.
Did they say something about a date for preorder?
And did they confirm the specs and the 1299 Euro price from the Webpage? -
They said, it would be available for preorder by july 1st.
Unfortunally, I did not ask. Maybe, I will call them again but I am pretty sure, the price is right. I even found it in the first German webshops for as low as 1180 EUR with exactly the same product number that is given on the german HP website (Envy 14-1010eg). -
That is good news indeed. If the specs and price are right. I may order it from Germany and have it shipped to the UK
-
lol same here... the envy 14 1010eg is the perfect spec for me. If that comes in the UK for that price I would be over the moon. Been waiting for 4 years at least for a new laptop now...
-
maybe we should do a group uk buy
we seem to be the last to get everything over here, it really sucks! Even Australia got the envy 17 and still not even a mention over in blighty -
I dont do anything!! lol!!
I do move around alot (first laptop hinges broke because after the third year) because it was a laptop i took to school every day, and i dropped it here and there.
the one i have now i dropped like ONCE. but that was when i first got it 2 yrs ago and i havent had a problem since xD -
There was a limited edition of the envy 15 (Beats Edition) Envy 15 Beats Limited Edition Laptop Features | HP
It looked like this :
If hp doesnt make beats edition of the 14" I'm going to sue them (who's with me ?) -
whats so great about the beats edition? its 1,999 for what?
-
Basically you just pay an extra 400 for black and headphones and DJ stuff compared to the normal envy 15.
-
Tempting. I'd probably eBay the headphones to cover some of the cost.
-
Yea the headphones are worth 100$+ ($199.95 even on the beats official website) (and its more like a 700 extra to be true 1299 to 1999 ?)
Edit: after further investigations, the headphones in the limited envy pack are those ones ( http://beatsbydre.com/products/Products.aspx?pid=B3808), and yes they are worth 349$ (i checked ebay and they are sold in auctions for around 200-250$ // 270ish for instant buy)
So yea in the end to get a black envy with a DJ input box (worth 100$) costs only about 450 extra bucks (700-250$) lol... Let's say 350$ if you manage to sell the DJ box too. -
I like the black, smooth edition of the Envy from Beats, but I could really do without the "b" branding on the front of it. Its just not classy and seems more like "paying to advertise" - its kind of like wearing a T-shirt with the logo of a couture company on it. The smaller "with beats audio" accent near the display, the red b key etc... are all great, understated ways to show its special but the giant red b on the back..ick.
I really wish that HP would take example from the Sony Z and put a couple of nice-looking finish options on the lid and keyboard deck. At very least I'd want "Silver metal, textured" "Silver metal, smooth" "Black metal, textured" "Black Metal, smooth", and a fingerprint-agnostic finish on the inside like brushed aluminum (black, silver etc..) -
Again, as I have said twice in this thread, looking at the list of the model numbers on HP's customer service site, there doesn't look like there will be a Beats Edition.
-
Can someone please start a new thread when something official is released? This thread has a mind-bogling amount of speculation and it's hard to weed through!
-
The end of BCB is July 30th, lets hope there is a good deal for Envy 14 on launch day...
Bing Community -
The biggest issue is HP contradicting themselves between their promo videos on youtube and the PDF datasheet on their website. Its just caused so much speculation.
-
So, people look like a new clickpad is on its way. It looks amazing, and it's already been asked on this forum if it was finding it's way to an envy 14 near you.
I didn't find any information on the forum, looked around some, and saw this:
Synaptics Introduces Four-Finger Multi-Touch and MacBook Style TouchPads - Laptop News - TrustedReviews
That would appear to be an envy sporting said clickpad in the pictures would it not? -
Sorry bro, I already linked to that article a few pages back.
-
Well damn, sorry to try and steal your thunder, if it is in the 14 I'll be a happy camper.
-
that would be awesome on the envy 14. So hyped over this machine lol it's actually ridiculous
-
This makes me wonder if this was one of a few reasons the e14 is coming out a month after everything else
-
probably is!
the wait is unbearable
-
It really is, I have been waiting too long for this laptop to come out. Was even considering a MBP a few days ago (shivers)... desperate to get a premium laptop before uni and the envy 14 ticked all the right boxes for me.
-
man, I REALLY hope we get a good BCB deal in before they end it. I'm pretty damn sure they wont, though...
-
Whaaat? NOOOO! I only just found this spectacular service. Got $30 back so far... I want my Envy 14 with that 25%! Plus my Momentus XT!? Think the Envy 14 will come with one of those?
Let's hope they have one last 25% end of July and I can get the Envy 14 along with a Mini 311. -
hey do you guys rekon it will come out in australia at the same time??
-
If someone wants to lug a 14.5" laptop, whats to stop them from just getting a real premium quality 15" laptop like the Lenovo T510 or the MacBook Pro 15.
So I'll go back to what I said before this thing is neither premium nor lightweight. And fully specced out it will pale in coparison with similarly priced units that it is aping, albeit badly. Its gonna be a waste of time.
What's missing in the market isnt this. What's missing in the market is a true premium 14" that is close to 4lbs, powerful enough, with high res screen (not even crazy high res but 1600x900 is it) long battery life and quality build. Its the only gap here. Asus and Acer have the "low-res, good enough" part covered and at a pretty low price, so anything else has to be a sure fire premium unit with no holes in its game, for those who are quality sensitive rather than price-sensitive.
Apple has left that gap open in the 14" and few have stepped up to the plate to deliver in this space. HP is basically pretending to step up but is really choking here.
Anyway, I'll leave off on this topic now. Talk is cheap and this unit is vapourware at the moment. When the dud finally arrives, I'll be back to say "I told you so".
-
what are you trying to say............ /sarcasm -
building a laptop isn't like an equalizer, you can't just slide all the specs to the top.
If a machine has top level, high performance parts, then it's going to have a shorter battery life and weigh more.
If a machine is really slim, then you wont be able to fit the best hardware in it.
If a machine has the best battery life, it probably wont have the the top level hardware and will probably be heavier because of a larger battery.
Do you get it?
If you want battery life, get the MBP
If you want "slim and sleek", get the Vaio Z
If you want best performance, get the Envy 14
If you want them all in one, wake up. -
I was considering this laptop but I just cant get over the fruity design. It looks like a laptop my sister would own. I am also a bit worried after reading all those horror stories about the hp envy 15 heat pad.
-
The T510 would cost ~1,500 with a GPU and decent HD. Even then it would have the equ. of a 310M. Not quite a multimedia powerhouse. It is a nice unit for what it does, but it is frightfully expensive for what you get. And, the display is nothing to write home about.
The MBP.

No need to be a debbie downer.
-
That, sir, deserves a rep point!
-
For now I would have to agree with you but if you were to say that such a a package is unattainable, I would say you are mistaken; breakthroughs in technology are constantly pushing the envelope of what we once considered to be impossible.
-
Is the envy line going to have an option to select a different design anytime soon? The floral design isn't cutting it. Also does the hp emblem on the lid light up or no?
-
There's no evidence they're doing away with the floral design. It's safe to assume they'll be keeping it. The Envy 13's banishment only just about ensures there won't be any Envies without it for the foreseeable future. Also, the HP emblem has been shown to light up on the lid in videos on youtube.
-
The MBP is awesome at keeping your coffee warm. Don't forget its added value !
PS: If it were capable of cooking bacon I'd be all over it, but it seems that the temperatures aren't yet that high
-
Yea I watched a few videos on it, but couldn't tell if it was lit up or just a reflection. I guess the design isn't that bad...wish I could see it in person.
