This is hilarious haha.

Oh that is just gorgeous!

There haven't been any comments on the "green with envy" pun
I must've not made the text obvious enough
Edit:Gunmetal looks amazing!
I wonder if sending some beautiful gunmetal-colored envy 14 photoshops to hp would change their mind about only offering the single color -
YouTube - HP MUSE Design Ethos
Just a youtube video of the Envy 14 from about 1:24 to about 5:45. Sorry if this had been posted already, but somehow i missed this vid. He does say one thing that bothers me. He is the second person i believe that has said that the slot load drive will go all the way up to a blu-ray player while looking at the E14, but we all know that they dont come in that size as of yet. This either means he is talking about the slot loading drives in the Envy series as a whole, or he is just not as knowledgeable as he should be with his product. Either way, this vid just makes me even MORE EXCITED for this laptop. Somebody give that turtle and bunny a gentle push! -
How long does the 25% cashback deals last anyways?
-
Hey!
No pushing bunnies!
If you want to help, go strap mine to a rocket, I've already seen the turtle get at least three
I'm curious; given a budget of $2500 (the kind where you don't get to keep leftover money) what laptops would you choose? The vaio Z12 is probably my pick -
Two HP Envys 14! ;-)
-
Nobody knows.
-
Still waiting for some real reviews to test whether this device is really worth the money.
-
At this point you'll probably have to wait on users from here for your best evaluations. Not to mention they'll be able to test things we want tested, not a bunch of artificial benchmarks that don't mean a whole lot.

Does anyone know where it would be possible to get a keyboard skin? I want to keep it nice and fresh looking.
Something like this Sony one..
I don't want something like this:
-
Yeah this too. But in my opinion notebookcheck for example does pretty good reviews with actually all the information i need.
Really, i want to now how good the cooling design is.
I read that the 17'' is having problems...
This actually further emphasizes what a monster design the Acer 3820TG has, which runs relative cool and quiet! -
Well when you're talking about a quad core i7 and HD 5850 vs dual core i5 and HD 5650 there's a big difference in cooling requirements there.
-
Yeah, but then again the 17'' size should offer better cooling per se.
And as far as i know, the Y460 and the 4820TG (both with Ati5650 and 14'' ) have actually heat issues.
But we will see... -

Those sony skins are real nice but I don't know that you'll find anything tailored specifically to the envy 14 for a little while. If you can confirm configuration and size of the keyboard are the same as perhaps another pre-existing HP model, you may be able to get something. Unfortunately, I have not seen a 3rd party skin that is as nice as those sony ones, only those clear flimsy ones. Doesn't mean they don't exist though. I just haven't looked real hard.
Curious though...are you looking for clear so as not to obstruct the backlit keys or is that unimportant to you? -
Well, I will have to see how I like the backlit. I've never had one before and have been just fine...I don't look at the keys when I type. That said, I may decide that I do like the looks of it. If that's the case, I think a clear would just make it look tacky, and I would just leave it uncovered.
-
Speaking of backlit keys on the Envy 14, has anyone noticed the light seems to bleed out from under the keys? I was under the impression that, ideally, the backlight should only shine through the clear cut outs of the letters/symbols on the key.
-
I just noticed that the Amazon.com listing for the HP Envy 14 lists the battery life as "Up to 3.75 hours"
That's got to be a typo, right? The initial videos and sheets were talking about 7 - 8 hours of battery life without the slice. If that figure was cut in half, as the Amazon listing suggests, it's going to take the Envy out of consideration for me.
-
they dont go through the letters?
and skittle, we already talked about that
. They probably had the GPU turned on.
-

I am not sure about the envy but that happens with a lot of backlit keyboards I have seen. If you are looking at them from a top/down angle it isn't noticable. However, at certain angles you really see the bleed. I've noticed it happening when more at a leaning angle if that makes sense. Basically, at most angles where you are not almost directly over the keys. -
Depends on the design of the keyboard. You'd either need a to service the keys by completely disassembling the machine or have a membrane keyboard, neither of which are appealing as a user.
-
I just wanted to call that into question, as I wasn't sure if this was an Envy specific problem or if it's common.
It's not non-issue for me, keyboard backlighting is something I'm not sure if I'll use, especially on a laptop. I'm for the most part a touch typist. -

whelp that guy saying his multiplier was locked at x9 on his envy15 tried throttlestop and it didn't work. Some guy with an envy17 also seems to get throttled down a lot on battery.
that sucks.
edit: oh wait, envy17 guy got back up to speed by changing his power plan to performance. false alarm. -
I'm pretty sure that a lot of laptops do this unless you change the power plan. Blaming it on the Envy would definitely not be fair.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well.
the envy15 guy's tried everything he can think of and it still is locked down at 9x. so I'm gonna just guess his envy15's bios is screwing with him. -
I'm a touch typist too, but occasionally I still need to look at the keyboard for things like home, page up, arrow keys, etc because those are different on pretty much every keyboard. Even to make sure you press the right Function key.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
And by "I'm gonna just guess," you mean, "he's really quite insistent" that the throttling is BIOS-based.
Personally, a locked throttle like that seems rather strange to me - after all, the CPU could simply have been set to throttle down unless it needed the power and get approximately the same results, only with more flexibility. I guess the problem then might be programs that run fine on lower clocks forcing higher CPU speeds to run at maximum speed, though. You'd think they would allow that kind of throttling to be controlled by the user, though - anyone who wants CPU power away from AC would be screwed if it's a locked setting, and taking power away from the user shouldn't be the mark or a premium laptop.
Edit: I wonder if he's missing some bit of HP bloatware that allows this to be unlocked. After all, I don't believe he's indicated that it is a BIOS option, just that he thinks it is because he can't find it anywhere else. -

Same here, I can type about 75wpm but even so, I still stumble when it comes to symbols and numbers above the letters. 10-key is a whole other story.
I often work in the dark or low light so I love those backlit boards. I just wish they were more of a standard years ago. Now that I've experienced them, I'd rather not go without.
-
I still dont get what "HP MUSE" means... Is this like how car companies use the same platform to make various models, i.e., Infiniti/Nissan's G35=350z=R35? Or Acura/Honda's TSX=Accord=Crosstour, etc etc etc?
Cuz at Fry's and at BB, I did notice that the dv series (4, 5, 6), G62, and the ENVies appear to resemble one another in terms of shapes/design, but minus the color and build material of course.
Or...is it a b.s. marketing term to "announce" a new build standard/process? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
HP Muse is a bs marketing term to announce how they designed these guys or something.
-
To think 7-8 hours is possible with an i5/5650 combo is pretty nuts. 3.75 sounds about dead on.
-
Though you realize the Envy 14 has switchable graphics, right? So unless you're gaming, pretty much any activity will be on the iGPU.
So 3.75 hours with an i5 and integrated Intel graphics is definitely not right. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I'm going 5 hours with integrated as my optimistic estimate
-
It appears the Envy 14 has an 8-cell battery, so I'd think 5 hours should be about right. We could always hope for more, though.
-
I guess it's about the same or a bit less as the Acer 4820/3820TG. It won't outlast them.
-
does anyone know if hp allows preorders? i expected them to have it on their site by now.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Well, if HP claims 7 hours, it's probably minimum brightness, throttled CPU, totally idle, so hopefully we'll get 5 hours with light use... I'm not optimistic enough to actually expect the battery life the manufacturer quotes to me, but dropping it down to 5/7 of the idle total seems reasonable enough in light-use situations.
-
This thing is supposed to go one sale on June 27th?
Isn't that a Sunday? It's not even a business day.
-
Did HP not upload CTO webpage for ENVY 17 until the release date? If that is the case it is fine, but if they did, then I'm starting to think that HP might miss the release date for ENVY 14... we only got a few days left and there still is no sign.
-
I've followed the thread, and did some searches, but I haven't found anything concrete about how to best get this thing in Canada, using Bing Cashback or some other discount.
Which one of these would work?
1. Order under my name and canadian credit card/paypal canada account, use a friend's US address.
2. Same as above, but somehow try to get a US Paypal account.
3. Get someone in the US to order for me (obv would work).
4. Travel to the US, buy it there at a store that would hopefully have it on sale or cheaper than hp.com price. No customizing here though.
Can't wait! -
Just give our Defense Department your military access codes and we'll
march in and annex Canada as the 51st state. You guys have oil, right?

GGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
....we now return to our regulary scheduled Envy14 anticipation thread already in progress. -
I'm not sure where you're located in Canada KrazyStuff, but I'm in Ottawa. What I plan on doing, and what I've done before (along with many of my friends, especially for car parts), is order direct from hp.com with my Canadian credit card (make sure to warn HP and your CC company so that they don't put a block on your card) and have them ship it to a UPS store that's nearest to the border.
In my case, there's a UPS store in Ogdensburg, NY. Once it arrives there, they give you a call, a short 45 minute drive gets me there, I pick it up, come back, pay Canadian taxes (since you won't pay American taxes) and be on your merry way with a brand spanking new Envy 14! -
It's funny because you could NEVER do that if you lived in mexico!
-
Yeah, it'd just be smuggled across the border.
-
Being Candian sucks =(
-
What kind of advantages the envy 14 wil have over HP Pavilion dv6t?
Is it only the screen, because the specs look the same. -
i may be very close to leaving the envy 14 wait guys... saw a beats envy 15 for sale, and am so tempted just to pull the plug on it. That thing looks so sleek and sexy
-
I would be interested in knowing this as well. I have dell studio xps 16 that should be arriving today, but it may have throttling issues when gaming, and that is one of the main uses I will be having for the laptop. If it does have these issues, I will be returning the system and possibly looking at an envy 14.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah the dv6t:se's main difference is the screen size, screen resolution, and average/below average laptop speakers.
and no slice battery.
also the 5650 isn't standard.
