Just phoned with the sales people again. Availability is now "within 4 days", so the German release, scheduled for monday 28th should be in time. Yay!
Sadly, the did know nothing about the availability of the slice battery which was postponed at least in Germany. But this is a minor drawback. Interesting for those, who are interested in the 2nd gen E17: The E17 is announced to come in late july here in Germany, this fits pretty much the schedule the renewed E17 has which makes it very likely that they start with the 2nd gen E17 here in Germany.

Good news.. Keep me posted! The last few days waiting will be hardest..
Do you know which shipping company they use? I had the impression they use UPS..
I am asking because I wont be home during normal hours and I want to see whether I can pick it up somewhere..

    What is Hp's return policy?
So if I buy it through hp shopping online (i'm in the us) and get bing discounts...what is the return policy?

(if I return it, how does the bing money work?)

Don't know if this means anything ... but I was reading PCMag's review on the HP DM4 and in their review they mention the HP Envy 14 briefly. They state that the "HP Envy 14 review will come shortly". I don't want to read too much into it, but maybe this suggests that they already have their hands on a model and is waiting for the "OK" to release the review.

They ship with UPS. There is the possibility to let UPS ship the package to a different address or to pick it up yourself at the nearest UPS base. You just need the tracking number, HP sends you as soon as the package is on its way. Read more: UPS: Änderung Ihrer Zustelloption

For a small fee, the UPS stores will let you ship to them and you can pick it up at the end of the day.

Not only that, but June 27 is a Sunday and seems odd they'd release something on a Sunday. So many people here think they can go on HP's website at Midnight June 27 and order it. I may be wrong (hopefully) but I wouldn't expect it available for order until at least later Sunday, but more likely Monday or Tuesday.

I think the models that Toshiba just released were available for order on the 20th, the announced release date, so it isn't that strange. Still, the fact that HP isn't even talking about it makes me think that the release might get pushed back.

21-day return policy, no questions asked even if the box was opened and the seal removed from the notebook. If you get a refund, Bing finds out, and you get the cashback reward canceled.

I'd totally jump on that too! Even with the huge Beats "B" logo in the back, it still looks sexy in all black! I'm not a DJ but a Beats version would still be very appealing to me :D

Does HP not have the same fine print that Dell has when they ask if you will export the system outside of the US or something along those lines? Dell asks you this over the phone and last time I ordered online there was a check box for it.

Will HP let you transfer the warranty to a non-US address w/o voiding it?

The AC adapter should be switchable and handle the 240v in Oz, so it's just the plug/socket that is different.

I travel back and forth between Oz and the USA all the time and I just swap the plugs on my laptop AC adapters (they are Dell & Asus laptops), but I have spare Australian power cords. If you don't you just need one of those plug adapters that only cost a few bucks.

If I end up getting an Envy 14, I'll be taking it back home to Oz with me when I move back there.

    That makes no sense.
Why would they turn one of their premium models into a netbook?
    ohhhhhh! I see what you're doing, here's mine;
I bet they'll make it into an ipad competitor. Or maybe an airplane!

It's funny how things turned out for me... my HP DV2740SE I bought 2 years ago crapped out on me a few months back and I've been in the market for a new laptop since.

Initially, I was eying the Acer 3820tg and swore off ever buying another HP again, until I ran into the Envy 14 on other forums and did a little research. I'm really hoping that the Envy 14 is as "premium" as they make it out to be despite the problems I've read on the Envy 17 forums. The build quality and better resolution sets it apart from the 3820tg/4820tg I initially wanted and I'd be willing to pay extra for that.

If 25% BCB is available on the assumed launch date of June 27th, I'm ordering that day. I'm not expecting July to have higher BCB rates, but if it jumps to as high as 35% for that one day, I'm calling HP to get a "price match" with a threat of returning/rebuying which would only waste their time and money.

In other words, it's not the end of the world if BCB goes higher that day. Worst comes to worst, you can return your current order and order again. Make sure your credit card has the available credit for a second purchase.

same with me... except, I had a zv6170ca... and over the three years warranty I had, the hard drive was replaced... 10 times, the motherboard twice and dvd drive once. Said no more HP... and then I saw the 13% EPP I get with HP, and then discovered the envy 14. My, how things change quickly.

I'm getting both excited and worried here at the same time. The Envy looks great, and I'm hoping it is, and I plan on ordering it ASAP, AND I know that I can return it if it doesn't live up to my standards. But I'm really starting to worry that there isn't a laptop out there that will live up to my standards. And if this doesn't work for me. I really don't know what will.

What are your standards? I'm sure there will be a notebook years down the road that does fit your expectations and breaks current engineering barriers.

Laptops have on average been getting thinner, lighter, and more powerful since their inception. It won't be more than 5 years before we see notebooks with OLED displays and standard flash (or whatever might replace it soon) memory. At that point, 3lb notebooks that are capable of chugging through games won't be an impossible reality. More CPU and GPU shrinks are sure to occur.

And for those who disagree about the OLED displays, check the news. Samsung's already got a $2 billion OLED plant in the tubes for 2011. Other players are soon to follow as smaller OLED display adoption on cellphones picks up pace in 2010 and beyond.
