I was wondering if anyone with the beats envy 15 could upload some nice shots of it? I've seen a lot of envy 15 pictures and a lot of nice ones by smile pak (thanks for that review man, was very informative).
I just want to see if the limited edition beats looks as good as the envy 15 as I think the envy 15 metallic design looks really nice with the floral pattern; the beats edition looks really nice on the outside but i want to see it up close more especially when it's open but the UK have no beats envy's. I have previously owned a gen 2 envy 15 and loved it but had to return due to overheating issues but I am really looking forward to having either an envy 14 or an envy 15 for university.

Thanks for those pics johnnobts, would you be able to take some pics with the laptop open while the screen is on?
-
sure, sorry i need another camera badly besides a 3mp iphone.
-
ah rite okay, also do you suffer from the purple webcam issue i've been hearing about? Does everyone have this issue on the envy 15?
-
The only difference between the Beats and the regular Envy is the case appearance. The hardware is identical.
-
ah ok, so webcam's still purple on the envys?
-
I don't notice mine as purple. The purple comes because of incandescent lighting, I believe. If you have fluorescent lights, there's not an issue, and as long as the incandescent isn't directly on you, it's better.
-
oh so it's not that bad... would you mind posting a screenshot of you using the webcam or pic taken with it? just so i can see the quality, if you don't mind that is.
-
Pita you do get the Beats headphones, and a slew of sound processing software. I *think* it originally came with the blue ray external drive also.
Take a look at this
YouTube - HP ENVY Beats Core i7, 6GB RAM Limited Edition 15.6 Lapt...
Seer -
@Serg many times I have overcame that problem by removing battery and putting it back in.
-
Not with the new Beats model. No headphones required to be included, unlike the original packages. The audio software may still be there, though. The regular Envy still has the same drivers and sound chip, though.
Not any time soon. My life is way too busy at the moment, unfortunately. -
Its official guys....my Envy is dead. The charger won't work at all and battery is drained already. [Inset a plethora of insults here]...
Anyone has an idea of what could I do? Seems to me that I'll have to ship it to HP (at my expense grrr) and see what they can do? -
What card did you buy it on? You could claim it on your credit card. If you bought it on American Express, I heard that they will pay for any diagnosis services required.
-
Well I have the same problem as you. I noticed that my power adapter (power brick) was squeaking faintly so I was hoping it was just a problem with the power adapter.
However, when I tried a Dell power adapter with the Envy, I still didn't get anything. Lastly, I went to a laptop shop and they confirmed that my power brick was dead, but also that the laptop wasn't accepting charge for some reason (delivered via a universal power adapter). The tech said it was a common occurence for both the power adapter and the laptop charging mechanism to fail if, for example, a power surge had occurred.
Fortunately my laptop is still under warranty--I Fed Ex'd it to HP today for (free) repair.
Hope you can get your's fixed, Serg

@N123
Sorry to post this after you returned your envy for repairs. Just wanted to make you aware that a Dell or most 'universal' adapters will not work on the envy 15, HP uses what they call a 'Smart Pin Technology' which is a center connector in addition to the barrel connectors contacts (inside and outside). This center pin sends a specific signal that the envy senses and determines the power output of the adapter and then determines whether or not to throttle the CPU... Very few after market adapters will work with the envy, I use an HP 65 Watt slim travel adapter which works but throttles my computer just like when on battery. Whoever told you that it's common for both the computer and the brick to go bad at the same time was incorrect, the brick has multiple safety features that are designed to prevent any damage to the computer. Since they tested your brick and it was dead my guess is the computer was (is) fine and just needed the proper working adapter. -
Any news on frequent black screens? happens randomly, about twice per day. Sometimes the laptop will be idle, sometimes it will be gaming.
I have the i7 version. Updated to the June 6th graphics driver and latest bios (I think f28).
I also get massive FPS lag.. well not massive, but way lower FPS than I get on my DV6T with nvidia's card. We're talking 60 FPS on DV6T and smooth, to choppy and ~15-20 with the ATI card on the envy 15. Same settings in-game (held server side) -
You need the essential software updates, a set of hotfixes from Microsoft that are bundled together, from the HP website. I had some black out issues with my Envy 17. Installed the ESU from HP and no more black screens.
-
Any link to that specific package? It's not listed in the drivers/download ara for envy 15 unless i'm blind.
-
So far been pretty satisfied; one thing though, at some point the on/off on the touchpad seems to have stopped working, luckily on the on mode. Any guesses or people with a similar experience? I did update from the f.24 bios to the f.28 bios recently.
-
reinstall the touchpad driver and it will probably work again. note: the newer drivers seem to disable the on/off feature. I rolled mine back. my touchpad settings are perfect now anyway, you just have to tweak them a bit.

Hello everybody, a long time lurker here.
Ive been thinking about buying the Envy 15. But from what i gather the 1st gen. Envy has a pretty bad cooling system.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if HP Envy 15-1190eo (Danmark, Finland, Norge, Sverige) - Bærbar - Computer - EDBpriser - find og sammenlign de bedste priser og tilbud på danmarks bedste prisguide is a 2nd gen. Envy? You can see the specifications under "specifikationer"
Thanks in advance. -
2nd gen based on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830

Does the E15 in this HP pdf look like it could be the G3? On pages 2 & 3.
Did the old one have a big vent across the back under the screen as shown on page 3? -
The G2 doesn't have that vent as the hinge design is completely different.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
There isn't a single pic of the envy 15 on that pdf, nor new nor old
-
? Well the one picture with several models has one labeled "Envy 15". The thing that throws me is what *appears* to be a big exhaust vent across the back which indicates a different hinge design than mine...(Gen 1). If its not an Envy 15 of some sort, what is it?

Sure looks like one to me. -
The one saying Envy 15 cannot be...the keyboard is wrong. The extra row of functionalities is not there. The HP symbol is too big. The hinge is not like that. That massive vent does not exist on the Envy. I think the one saying Envy 15 is in fact the 13, notice the small rubber thingy on the palmrest, that is on the 15's bezel, but on the 13's palmrest. Perhaps a full redesign? But I can tell you, the one with the Envy 15 tag is NOT the 1st nor the 2nd gen.
-
NO ALL I5 ENVY 15's HAVE GONE!!!!
This sucks... i was really looking forward to an i5-520 beats edition envy 15. Why would HP do this -
No i5 options for the E17 either. Perhaps they've allocated all the i5 CPUs for the initial surge of order for the E14, which has just become available on the HP site.
-
might show up later.
-
argh, decisions decisions, wait till i5's come again and hope base price may get lowered since its 1299.99 with an i7 at the moment? Or just get the i7 and hope the heat isn't too bad?
how much hotter is an i7-720 than an i5-520/540 in the envy 15? -
Wait...so is this the gen3 Envy 15?
The only thing that I see different is the configurations you can have in it (not even the new CPUs)...the external design looks identical...though it is a bit (~$150) cheaper for the same config I ordered.
I don't see any reason why I should order this and cancel my gen2 order...does anyone else? -
Hey guys, I'm new here to the forums, and I gotta say - there's quite a wealth of information here! Anyways, I received my gen 2 Envy a couple weeks ago with dual SSDs. Though the performance is pretty good, I cannot justify the premium I paid for the dual SSD option.
That being said, I'm going to sell my two SSDs and change my drive to one of the new Seagate Momentus Hybrid drives. After a fair bit of searching, it's my understanding that I'll need the other bracket to do so. AFAIK, HP is the only retailer of this bracket, and it costs something to the tune of $50 for a flimsy piece of metal.
If there is a retailer that supply these brackets could someone point me in their direction? If not, would anyone be interested in trading my dual drive bracket for your 2.5" bracket? I didn't see anything prohibiting barter on this forum, so sorry in advance if I'm out of line :-/ -
@ johnobts (or anyone else who has had the E15 and the E17 and has opened/customized both): I have the E17 w/ the SSD+500 GB HDD. (1) Would the mounting bracket for my HDD work for shadyshifty? (2) Would I be able to use his bracket to install his dual 1.8" drives in my E17's 2nd drive bay, in addition to the 2.5" SSD I have in the 1st bay? (3) Would BIOS/Win7 64 see the two new drives and provide TRIM support, since there is no RAID 0 support in the E17? TIA
@ shadyshifty: Assuming I receive blessing from the guru(s), I would be interested in buying your dual SSD and would send you my HDD bracket as part of the deal. -
@PhatCat, theoretically speaking, there shouldn't be any problem IF the space is available inside the E17, it SHOULD (but I am not 100% sure) work, if no RAID of any kind is set. This is theory. I have yet to see the interiors of my E15 (doing so on Wed), but if it happens to be same they used on the E17, it could possibly work. Have you tried the E17 owners lounge (if there is any)? and see pics of the inside? Better yet, use the manual of both the E17 and E15 and see if the bracket number parts are the same on both models, if so, it could be possible...
-
@PhatCat, I certainly didn't plan on selling my dual SSD setup on here (I was gonna sell on eBay), but by all means, if you're willing to pay my asking price (which I'll lower since you're saving me eBay fees) then by all means. BTW, though I am new here, I have an immaculate eBay account with the same username. I'd be leery of making a big purchase off of someone new otherwise :-/
Drop me a PM sometime and we'll discuss the details. -
I'm in the same boat as you, i'm waiting for my Envy 15 to be built and not sure if this is in fact evidence of a 3rd gen. Still waiting for more information.
-
I'd say that was a mistake. Sell one of the SSD's, and keep the other one. You're going to kick yourself about the incredible speed boost you're going without by trading off the SSD's for a platter drive..
-
sell one ssd and keep the other, and then buy a 320gb 1.8" drive like me ($165)
-
i hope i5 comes back soon! I was going to order the E15 today.. GAHH!!!
-
In regards to the cable that connects these drives to the motherboard, will I have to order a different one for the 2.5" setup (since it's not mini-SATA), and does this come with the ~$50 mounting kit?
Also, anyone willing to swap brackets, my dual SSD one is still available. -
Rumor has it that there's a July 4th sale on all Core i5 laptops. So by removing the i5 options from the E15 and E17 and by starting the E14 with i3, they're making sure that none of the envy laptops are included in the sale. (especially since they know that the E14 and E17 will be selling regardless of a sale)
-
as long as the i5 comes back i'm happy although a reduced price would be nice since it's only i7 at the mo for 1299.99
-
guys any big coupon program on this week? or next week? ill be buying one anytime now and i just want to save as much as i can coz ill be spending an extra for the delivery here in japan. any help will be much appreciated. thanks.

My cancellation wasn't processed in time. Maybe for the best now that the i5s are a rare commodity. If someone wants an i5 badly,
I have a Brand New Envy 15, i5-520, 320gb Dual SSDs, 4gb ram, Full HD brightview. (Normally $2,235 with LA tax. I got a slight discount)
Instead of posting on ebay or returning it, I'll part with it for $2000 + shipping, or make me an offer. I won't charge tax. PM me and we can work out details. -
Chevalier_du_Roi Notebook Enthusiast
I placed my order with an i5 520 a few days before they were canceled. Hopefully there won't be significant delays now...
-
Does anyone know when hp will fix the touchpad driver to allow you to re-enable the touchpad once you disable it?!
-
For anyone wanting an i5, I have a i5 520M that I will trade (+cash) for one of the quad cores. PM me if interested.
