My envy refresh came with 4 sticks of samsung 1333 ram. See screenshot.

 

Wow. Guess it's a crapshoot. It's also possible they had some 1333 inventory left over.

Like I said, you won't notice a diff though.

 

formatted and did a clean install followed by driver installation. in terms of software, what did you guys put back on the machine? and what are you using for antivirus?

 

M$ Security Essentials for AV.

 

I'm using Microsoft security essentials.. been using it since beta and its gotten good reviews.. not too harsh on memory and speed.

 

Anyone else here gets a very low windows index score (4.3) for graphics? I don't know why. I think I got 6.8 with the 4830 GPU. I am running the HP driver/CCC.

My 3dmarks (8106) and vantage (3800) scores are not bad I think, so not sure what win7 is not liking.

 

definitely looks like a driver issue. i am getting 6.8 for my system (i5 4gb 5830)

 

MSE, CCleaner, and Melwarebytes are the only 3 programs i run with my systems at work and home.
MSE is currently rated as one of the best AV protection
CCleaner can take out all the trash within your system. ie temp files, internet cookies, etc.
Melwarebytes scan 1-2 times per week for full melware protection.

as far as the email, I have no idea what is going on. If the replacement Envy 15 comes with fingerprint reader and webcam, then all the better(doubt it). if it is external (highly doubt it) then sucks... I think it might just a email mistake by the HP CSR department, especially when no one else received it besides me atm.

on a side note, does anyone know a way to configure the keyboard shortcut/hotbar? ie. the calculator key, printer key, etc. I find the preset keys are useless...

When you say HP driver is it the 8.670.5.1 that came with the machine? If you did a clean install it reverts to a MS generic until you reinstall the 5830 driver. but your scores sound to high for that...

I upgraded to the strag.com 8.681 and went from WEI of 6.8 to 6.9

 

That strag driver cam with like 500 inf's.

Which one is it to install?

 

just ran some crytaldisk benches after the format and I did see a speed increase... didn't expect that, but that's awesome... about 30MB/s faster on the reads, pretty consistent on the writes...

 

i knew someone would ask that grrrrrr now i have to think!

unzip it all t a folder, go to dev mng and upgrade driver for 5830, select find on computer, browse to folder, open vist/7amd64, open B92022, make sure you have include subfolder checked, select this folder.....it will look through and find the right one.

when back to select driver select next... can't duplicate it since it's aready installed..

After it looks like it loaded the driver you have go thru it again and choose the 'choose from a list on computer' option and it will show you 3 or 4 of the same exatct options for 5830, in my case it was the first option but if that not it it will say 'the best drivers installed, try again in order until it loads...

It's a pain but i hope that makes sense

when you did your clean install what did you install to get the OSD back? I think that's really the only thing I want back, the rest of the hp crap can stay away

for those with SSD's can you post for CrystalDiskMark benches. I want to make sure I am on par with others

 

Then it will be in the list below B92022, it will only load compatible drivers so it finds the right one for you.

Afetr you see the progress bar it is loaded but not installed, then you have to get to the 'choose from list of vailable drivers on computer' this is when you get a list (3 or 4) of the identical names and have to start from top down.

 

It doesn't find it. lol

I point it there and it keeps telling me the usual "the best driver is already installed".

Meh... I'll just way for a good mob modded one

EDIT: I don't have 9022 or whatever. My folder is 92994. I have dl the 8.690 driver. Is that the same one?

Nice! I already ordered, so if they dont work ill return them and get those. The HyperX ones i got state cas7 i thing while at 1333... so thats a little edge.

Hey, just looked at strags and it is now the 3rd one down. reminded me that the 8.681 has CCC 9.12 which I haven't tried to install yet mainly because it caused 3 or 4 recoveries when I tried to get that working on my old i7 version. If your feeling lucky let me know if it works. I have no idea what it brings to the party if it works....

Did you get 9.12 CCC loaded when you got the 8.681 installed?

I didn't even try because i had so many problems with that on my old envy i7.

 

The developer of the Mobility Modder said he is actively working on the program and full support for ATI Mobiliy 5000 series as well as Catalyst 10.1+ should be out "soon"

sleey0, could you host the 3 files you used to get the volume actions back? Nothing is happening when I install mines. I installed silverlight directly from MS, the other two apps give me an error when I try to install it. It's probably from when revo uninstaller deleted a bunch of files, it probably deleted some important files in those folders.

Did you install the silverlight app? The one from microsoft is a web plugin, I believe.

The one in the swsetup is for the mediasmart stuff.

 

so I was looking at the CCC version it says:

Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.1123.1057.19591

and you guys are saying CCC 9.9...I'm guessing I don't have that version?

 

If the buttons work why do you need the visuals to show whats happening? I'm glad it went away, it always would minimize a full screen window when i adjusted the volume. I just use my ears not my eyes to adjust the volume, lol

 

can any of you guys show me how to get the usb 3.0 drivers because doing a clean install, i don't have access to the drivers? =/ sorry about all these posts, don't mean to spam up the forums.

Screwy numbering system. you have 9.11 which is the current version. CCC 10.1 will be available soon for the mobile GPU's, which should give all the bells and whistles that the desktop versions get. see lsramair's link above...

well, I downloaded that one and as Sleey0 mentioned, under the B_92022 folder it won't see anything, and one level up, a ton of .inf show up, so not sure what to pick

 

why would you install pc 10600 on your laptop with an i5, the cpu bottlenecks the memory at pc 8500 speeds.

 

Just tried installing the silver light app in the swsetup folder and it told me that I have a newer version installed. I just installed MSMENU & QLB and the buttons still don't work. I click on the little bird icon or the volume up/down keys and I don't see any animation/action. I confirmed that they're installed in control panel, but it looks like it's not doing anything. Not a big enough deal to worry about, everything else is working fine. I'm just going to uninstall them, not like I need them for now.

 

Make sure you 'check' the include all sub folder box, try starting with main folder then just work down the other folders, it will only load the correct driver

 

If that was directed at me, it's because they were 20 bucks cheaper when I ordered and at 1066 they are the same latency. they work great BTY, WEI memory score went from 5.9 to 6.8
