:-( I got the old gen envy. No usb 3.0 for me or 5830. but I can still return so I'm waiting for reviews on new envy.

What usb 3.0 electronics are out there? Like blu-ray and external hds or something coming soon? Aren't they going to be expensive since they'll be new? I guess usb 3.0 is great for future proofing, but 2-3 years from now, I'll want a new laptop anyway then usb 3.0 peripherals should be more common.

still curious about the performance of the hd5830, if its MUCH better, THEN i'll feel like im missing out.

 

Well I know WD has 2 smartbook external 3.0 drives available now, a 1T and 2T version. Right now the only ones they sell include a card for your computer to add USB 3.0 to it so that might be a plus. Anyway the drives are selling for $199/$279 at WD online store:

The only thing I can for reasoning is that the HM55 is a larger firmware, and has quite a few fewer interface connections than the PM55:

6 PCIe lanes isn't quite enough for the 5830. And then you get into pricing... the PM55 with a i5-540M is $297 in bulk. The only way to get an IGP with the same capabilities as the PM55 is go go with the HM57 which is $305. Seems a lot like HP was just cutting costs while keeping performance, and trying to limit the amount of differential engineering they had to do between the i7 and i5 models (which can be quite expensive in terms of manpower). Perfectly logical if you think business cost cutting instead of best machine you can get

 

i didn't like my envy at first, but have come to love the darn thing. it is a light little beast, much lighter than my M15x (forgot how heavy that thing was). Gaming is nearly as good, and DX11 is going to be terrific.

Of course, when Sleey0 enjoys a laptop, he keeps it for a whole month, then swaps it out for something new, right? Whatever happened to that Adamo you bought?

I actually considered buying a gaming laptop too. BUT I'm paranoid and don't want my fellow classmates thinking I'm a gamer. lol I like the fact that the envy isn't advertised as such but is capable for my casual gaming needs. oh and light and skinny.

 

Casual? With the 5830, it's capable of some pretty heavy gaming needs. Casual gaming would be one of the Pavilions with a 230M or something in it.

 

Looks like the non-beats i5's are shipping. Mine shipped today. The tracking number isn't working yet though. I did the free shipping so I guess I'll see it around weeks end - maybe. BTW I ordered on Jan. 18. Sorry if this is old news - reading 800+ posts over a weekend can get you a little cross eyed.

Hope mine ships today as well then. Need to be able to at least play with the thing before I have to pay my credit card bill (stupid delays and companies that charge cards before shipping a product)

They have however shipped my 52lbs (per FedEx tracking) of paper.

lol, i order an i7 envy on the 11th, no shipment yet. I officially lose my laptop tomorrow, it'd be nice if I get my new laptop delivered on time, i.e. last friday.

Mine was supposed to ship on 1/19. The delay email says by 1/30. If it doesn't ship by 1/30, I'm cancelling.

 

It's strange that HP shipped mine already. The BUILD date was suppose to be Jan. 29th.

Maybe the processor availability is the issue - I got the 520m. Seems most people ordered the 540m.

I ordered on 1/12. Original ship date was 1/20, and then it was delayed to 1/29 but it shipped this morning. It is strange that'd they fill orders out of order, but maybe it has to do with component supply issues.

I was told on the phone that shipping would be expedited and when I asked whether this meant it would be changed to 2-day shipping, the CSR said yes. I hope she wasn't BSing me. I'll be pissed if I don't have it mid week.

 

Perhaps it depends also on payment method. By that I mean if you pay by BML then your not charged till it ships but if you pay by CC then its billed right away. At least in my case it was billed to my CC imediatly, so maybe those go out first

I was told that the deal is that whenever an order gets delayed then supposedly the system automatically tries to update to 2 day shipping. However I now take anything CS says with a great big salt lick.

EDIT: LOL, I keep f5'ing and rechecking the fedex link hoping to see the actual shipping details

I was told the same thing by the CSR, but I was skeptical, too. I just wouldn't expect a $50 gift card AND upgrade to a shipping option listed at $39.

wow.. I ordered 4 days before you and mine is still in production.. if I don't get a ship confirmation by the 26th I'll probably just cancel it, I'm tired of this waiting.

 

Did you use the $300 off coupon? Do you think you'll get a machine anywhere near what the Envy is for the same price? I'm annoyed at waiting too, but it's still an amazing deal.

I got the i7 720, Hi-rez ultrabrite screen, 320GB HD and external DVD.

Maybe the screen is the issue on why others are shipping before mine.

Could be, hard to say for sure. Sadly tho what I fear is more likely HP is simply inept. Don't get me wrong as I'm happy mines going out sooner rather than later but still sux for others having to wait.

Not to mention that other vendors are having issues as well. Lenovo removed the T/W 510's for a few days and the SonyStyle site won't take orders on the F series last time I was on the site (today). I've also noticed prices are rising at retail stores for new machines in the same class (well close to the same class). I'd still wait especially since there is some movement (shipping) now.

Yes; delayed from 1/20 to 1/29. I thought it was strange that my new date was 1/29 when others were delayed from 1/18 and 1/19 to 1/30. Am I trying to find a pattern where there is none?

 

My order was massively delayed too, but they're promising me that it'll be shipped out tomorrow.

Your right tho, however it got delayed in a way because their CS person convinced me to cancel my original order which did have 2 day shipping and place the new order instead and they goofed and submitted the new order with standard shipping. They "said" they would also try to speed up the shipping on the replaced order but no grantee. At least they did manage to escalate the building and have it on the way. I'll just be glad when it gets here!!!!!!

Well not really, as the 5870 uses faster memory and is a better chip than the 5830 by a fair amount but still an interesting read.

 

I got my Delay notice at around 4.45pm so I'll at least wait a few more hours, if I don't get an email, I'll call and do some complaining, see what they can do.. LOL, maybe knock a cool hundy off the price or something

 

Oh I know and am greatful, but I'm American and you know how that is. We always want something for nothing and MOAAAR than we pay for hehe

 

Thats usually the first thing they offer if you threaten to cancel/change an order. I guess for them its easier to knock off/kick back a few bucks than it is to cancel and reorder.

 

As mentioned by others, you'll have more leverage once you get the notebook. If you call and say you want to cancel in the 21-day period following receipt, shipping it back is on HP and then they'll have to sell it as pre-owned.

 

Hmmm... if that's the case I may just call, complain, get my credit and throw the thing up on ebay. With the $300 coupon along with whatever discounts I can get by complaining, I'm sure there's a small profit to be had.
