I'm considering the Envy 15 once again with this discount. HD 5830 and 1080p under $1000 is amazing.
-
Wow I too had given up on the Envy but I might just return the desktop I just bought and give this a try.
Edit: On second thought, I'll pass. If I'm going to buy a notebook it will be an Elitebook. -
I just received my envy with the 250 coupon used. I hate to return then reorder.
-
They might be able to just give you an additional discount.
-
Two Questions.
1. Can you use bing to get cash back?
2. Can you get a Costco Accidetal damage warranty cheaper? -
-
-
Just got my $200 credit after spending 46min on the phone with them. Its doable guys if you dont mind " let me put you on hold" every 2 min.
Totally worth the wait and better than returning then ordering again and wait for production. -
Have to leery about why they keep reducing offering deeper discounts on this "Premium" laptop. If you look at the equivalent Sony Vaio model you would never be able to get it for under $2000.
If the build quality of the Envy was truly that of the Apple Macbook pro then I would order another one instead of waiting for the Macbook Pro refresh. -
Well the Macbook Pro had better have better build quality if it's $1000 more with worse specs (only thing that it has is better battery life).
-
I think that HP has marketed the Envy 15 brilliantly. Originally, it was not that well thought of because of heat issues. They took a device that had a pretty bad reputation, Put some new guts in it and discounted the heck out of it and sold a lot of units. Smart marketing HP.
-
Just got off the phone with HP customer support after 40 minutes.
They agreed to issue me a refund of $150. I just purchased the Envy15 two weeks ago. They kept trying to insist the coupon did not exist. I had to talk with supervisor to resolve. I had used the $300 coupin with my inial purchase. -
this is a sick sick deal, not even the Macbook can compete with this price. i5 and great video card, 1080p for under 1000. sick too sick, im ordering now.
-
I Told them Ok I will return then and order a new purchase- Both way I will get my discount.... then they decided to honor it.
-
Does anyone have any experience with the build quality of gen 2 envy 15?
I've heard lots of bad things with the previous gen. Did they improve it for the 2nd? -
I went to Best Buy to spend some time with the Macbook Pro and I walked away feeling very confident in the build quality of the product. I will not get the current generation, however. Once they release the new models I will probably get one.
Samsung has a laptop out, the R58 or R80, something like that, that comes with great graphics, core i5, Bluray, etc. all for $900 at Best Buy. So, because it is a great deal should I go buy one? No! If the system is not of the utmost quality then the bargin doesn't matter to me. -
It seems if you go with i5 the laptop actually keeps well cooled. Gen 2 is definitely cooler than Gen 1. -
your loss our gain buddy!
btw, about every review I've read state that the envy never turns down its quality.
and I quote from the first random review from google
"Super performance, yet runs cool for its class. Fantastic looks, durable metal casing. Awesome gaming and HD video playback experience. Lovely HD display that's bright, color saturated and has good viewing angles. Beautifully packaged from the factory with an external optical drive and a 9 cell secondary battery in the box-- this isn't your boring HP unboxing experience." -
Sick.
Smilepak - Looks like I'm joining you as one of the few owners of the CW and Envy. Very stoked. -
At this price, any flaws start to melt away.
The big thing for me is I'm hoping for a laptop which will be covered by warranty when I take it back to Australia, but it seems like even though HP has a so-called "global warranty" it wouldn't be covered.
I might end up going for the MSI GX640 because MSI's warranty actually is international and it seems to be coming out much sooner than the ASUS N82Jv or Acer TimelineX; I was hoping for something lighter with more battery life, but gaming performance is important too and so I don't mind shifting the compromise in that direction if it means I actually get a laptop before the world ends in 2012. If only MSI had switchable graphics on the GX640, though -
Is the 21 day return policy from the date that it is delivered by FedEx, or the day it was built/shipped?
-
-
argh why did all the ports have to be on the right side!?
-
-
-
That aside, might I remind you that reviews are nothing but another person's opinion on a product; yours might differ significantly.
I too don't think the MBP's quality can be compared to the ENVY. Go visit the Apple forums and tell me what issues people are having other than not knowing how to run this or that ... There aren't any hardware issues with this line.
That being said, with the release of the 27" iMacs ... I'm starting to doubt Apple's 'quality control' if you will. Only time will tell how the refresh stacks up. -
...I'm thinking hmmmm at this price I could have both - and then you go and do it - - - which makes me not crazy (because someone else has done it)!!
-
If you want a laptop with more even port distribution that's not as sexy, look at something like the MSI GX640 that's coming out.
-
The Envy is just premium casework. -
Currently on the phone with service... loving the hold music.
Edit: No matter what I tried I was unable to get them to refund me $250. They wanted me to order a new laptop and send in my old one. Not even the supervisor seemed willing to budge. -
-
Anyone have a good suggestion for a portable DVD drive for the envy?
Also. What about purchasing the warranty elsewere? costco or ebay? -
I had initially made a purchase using the $300 discount ticket coupon but numerous issues which have not yet been solved by HP eventually led me to cancel my order. In my month or so scouting this forum for all potential issues of the HP Envy 15 Gen 2, this is what I have gathered:
1. The i5 will run alot cooler than the i7. To some, the heat generated by the i7 borders on unbearable. Battery life will differ by around 30-40 minutes or so between the 2 as well running the same processes. So if battery and heat is a concern, stick with the i5.
2. There have been numerous complains of a purple tinge to the webcam which despite numerous tweaking with the settings, continues to persist. Users have attributed this to the "night vision" feature of the camera, which has some permanently switched on infrared/ultraviolet lamps to aid in the low light functioning of the webcam. Only in very good lighting does colour actually retain some form of decency, albeit washed out.
3. Blank Screen of Death - The most annoying issue faced by users which have already caused some people to have their Envy refunded. Personally, I cancelled my order based on this fact. This is an issue which the laptop may occasionally freeze, to which the screen goes completely blank and unresponsive but if you had been watching a movie or playing a game, you will still be able to hear the soundtrack of the movie or game that is running. The only known way to get the laptop running again is to do a hard reset. It does not seem to be an overheating issue because this problem has been encountered even when the Envy has been left at idle, simple browsing of the internet, just listening to songs, working on Microsoft Office Documents and other low CPU usage tasks. Had I been using this laptop as a work based PC and this blank screen issue suddenly occur causing me to lose all of my unsaved documents, I would be very frustrated indeed. In fact, there is already a dedicated on this forum as well as here: http://h20435.www2.hp.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/Is-anyone-listening-HP-Envy-15-Blank-Screen-Issues-lets-do/td-p/54168 if anyone is interested.
4. Build quality issues: Noisy fans, creaking/loose touchpad, warped casing, scratches on black bezel of screen for a completely brand new out of the box laptop, loose keyboard keys which are so bad that if you press certain keys at a specific spot they pop off the plastic hinges by themselves, loose fit of the extended "slice" battery which causes the laptop to hang if the jiggle is bad enough. However, there are of course perfect built laptops which exhibits no such issues.
5. Horizontal white lines on screen. This can be seen here: http://h20435.www2.hp.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/Horizontal-lines-Pixels-on-Envy-15-1080p-Screen/td-p/49987
6. Badly placed short cut keys to the left hand side of the Envy 15 - If you take a look at a picture of the Envy 15's keyboard, you can that the short cut keys are easy to accidentally hit. So you may call up the print or calculator function just about a million times while trying to hit a shift or ctrl key instead. All a matter of getting used to though.
7. Very slow random 4K read/write speeds for the SSDs based on the benchmarks which are once again found in this forum.
8. For the i5 model, the 2nd DIMM slot is not as easily accessible as the one just under the laptop and requires partial disassembly. Same goes for the i7 models, just that it has 4 DIMM slots in all so partial disassembly is required in order to access the location of the other 2 slots.
With all these known issues, I sure hope that the $450 discount coupon is not a ploy for HP to clear their stock of broken laptops. -
bing has 10% rebate for HP direct, does it work when using this coupon..?
edit: yes it does work, and shows up in bing account as pending after just a few minutes. got an envy 15 for $1026 with tax -$95 bing in 60 days. total $931! -
Bing cashback and HP coupons typically do not work together. The $450 coupon is going to be better deal even though.
-

well i looked around, apparently bing is not supposed to work if you use coupons at checkout (probably in the fine print somewhere, i never read it). seems odd that they don't have a system in place to check if you used a coupon and avoid the confusion altogether. i read some accounts about HP in particular that said the shipping notice is closely followed by a bing cancelation notice for those that used coupons.
oh well, would have been a nice bonus, but the price is fair as it is. -
There are reports from various vendors that sometimes the bing cashback will still go through, but it seems to be the exception and not the rule -- and I'm not sure I've seen any of those reports with HP, which explicitly says on the HP Bing page that you can't use coupons (at least, it did when I ordered mine).
-
coupon is used up after engadget posted it on their front page.
-
hmmm anti glare or the brightview
-
They're both great screens.
My impression (from JJB, who has seen both) is that you need to have a fairly strong preference for anti-glare to prefer it. I do have a strong preference for the matte screen (I hate reflections) and I love it. It's quite bright and sharp.
The glossy screen is even brighter and sharper. If you don't mind a little bit of reflection, it seems like glossy is the way to go...but if you're like me, matte all the way. -
ok so ultra bright view or standard also i5 or i7
-
i5 uses less power, produces less heat, and for the most part performs the same. You can save money and get the 430m.. it's plenty powerful. If you feel like you need a little extra, then the 520m is good. IMO the 540m is overkill.
-
hi my brother is in san francisco now,i m in turkey now,if i give coupon code(NBMY33241) him my brother, will he pay only 950$ to buy hp envy?
-
It would have to be shipped to a US address (dunno about billing address).
According to @dapreview, the coupon has been used up anyway. -
coupon is working again. same code NBMY33241
-
Mine says "dropped to factory" already. How many more stages before it ships?
estimated ship date is the 9th. Sooner would be nice -
After dropped to factory is 'In Production' which seems to last a few days at least.
HP Envy 15 - $450 Coupon of $1399
