Hi guys! I've been looking for a good laptop since December. Currently I was hoping to choose between laptops with Sandy Bridges. Dell XPS 15, Macbook Pro 15, HP Envy 14 Beats, Sony F Series, HP Envy 15 with or without Beats Edition.

I've been 'googling' the web for months now but I can't seem to find any news of the HP Envy 15. I know it's(only first gen intel core) only available to retailers now and not HP directly.

So my question is, are there any chances of HP releasing the Envy 15 SB Beats Ed or not, anytime soon?? Heard of any rumors?? Probably a March 14 surprise??

Doubt it. Envy 15 has been discontinued for months. Most likely HP is going to update the Envy 14 to SB some point. Also, the 17 has just gotten their SB upgrades, so between those, there is no incentive for HP to resurrect the 15.

HP got rid of the 15 because it wasn't extremely popular and the units had many problems. They withdrew the 15 and instead attempted instead on a new series of Envys (14 and 17) and those two has been a better seller for HP than the 13 and 15. I don't think HP would want to try to make a 15 again anytime soon.

aw that sux a lot! It's just that I got used to having a 15" screen it's hard to downgrade to a 14" envy. O well I'll just have to wait for a refresh of Envy 14 and weigh out the specs against other laptops before I buy one.

Anyway, thanks for a quick rep!

They're hard to come across but if you can find an Envy 14 with Radiance display (1600x900) I don't think you'll mind the smaller screen size.

I came from a 15" hi-res MBP and actually like the size of the Envy 14's display more. I have essentially the same real estate in a slightly smaller form factor.

I myself believe they're bringing back the 15 and is part of the reason they haven't announced a refresh on the 14. It might not be what they had planned to do with the line back about a year ago, but they can't offer a premium grade product with no hi-res panels.

Just imagine the reviews if the 14 refresh was sent out with the 1366x768 panels. It's a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Unless they get more hi-res 14.5" panels (doubtful), it looks like they're most likely bringing the 15 back.

Really? Not that I'm privy to inside information, but isn't it a bit early for them to be announcing a refresh for the E14? It's not even a year old. Didn't they first introduce it around April/May? We know now that the the Beats edition E14 is no longer available on HP's website. Do you think they're going to just offer only the E15 and E17?

Interesting. VERY interesting indeed. 1920x1080 resolution display would be a good proposition. But the gray area is the optical drive. A video interview with an HP rep revealed they brought back the ODD in the E14 BECAUSE customers complained about needing the ODD (Damn idiots, do your homework and just buy an external if you want to store your media!).

So my take is this. I'd actually be supportive of them going back to 15.6" if it meant doing away with the ODD and putting in a 3rd cooling fan. They made that tradeoff with the E14. They got rid of one fan and put in the ODD.

Here's to hoping whatever refresh they bring will be a strong evolution. A smooth clickpad, all the goodies that were available with the E15 such as anti-glare and 1080 display, 3 fans, and no ODD. I'd be willing to jump on it then. I could really use a new GPU.

I'm thinking they may make a 13" and a 15". I agree with zer06ame, I've contacted them numerous times asking about a refresh and when high def displays will be offered again. They always mention that their supplier for the high def displays no longer makes them. So I think a 15" is very plausible.

It's pretty pointless to buy the envy 14 right now since the new dv6 SE came out. They have the new sandy bridge processors, decent graphics, decent design, and the same 1366 x 768 resolution screen...

I am waiting for the new smaller envy, whatever size it may be, to come out before I buy a new laptop. I'm starting to get impatient though... There is no way I'll buy the envy 14 as it sits currently.

Right now its between the new Sony S series(1366 x 768 but only 13.3"), the dv6SE (if a high def screen is offered), whatever the envy 14 refreshes is..., or the envy 17 if I find a trailer to haul it around...

I, too, think the 15 may return. Just because the last 15-inch version flopped, doesn't mean the new one will. Surely, it didn't flop because it was 15 inches. It can be priced differently and be freer of flaws.

I really think(more of hoping) HP ENVY 15 will be back. Correct me if I'm wrong but it wasn't like the E13 where they really announced that they will discontinue it. They even have the E15 on their HP Envy page still. But there's the dv6tqe...it's either they replaced E15 for dv6tqe or it will be like the E17 and dv7t...

Does anybody know when's the next hp event(their usual release dates for laptop refresh?)?

the current gen envy is 14.5... so you aren't losing out on much

As far as a rerelease goes, many of us have speculated they may chance to a different size again, a more common screen size that a vendor would be happier making a hidef screen for (only hp uses 14.5, and what vendor is going to want to make a screen that only one company will use)

You will be loosing atleast 1.1" as compared to Envy 15. Personally I would like to have a 15.6" or 16" Envy ;)

    Thats what she said! :)

Didn't HP release the 15" envy but didnt do as well as 14.5" ? The only reason for delaying the refresh, that I could think of, is the lack of radiance screen. If they would have gone for 15" then there are plenty of company which makes that screen and envy 15 would have been out till now!

Either that or HP's marketing and sales team is dumb!
