Hi
Any one facing the same problem as me?
When I press shift it works, when I press 1 it works too. But when I hold shift and try to press 1 for the exclamation mark it does not. The weirdest part is the left shift and right shift works for different buttons combination and some works for neither.
If I plug in a usb keyboard, it works perfectly fine. can anyone confirm if this is indeed a hardware issue, if yes any recommendation on fixing it cheaply or any video to help me navigate around the machine to repair the cable? Because it seems that the physical keyboard seems fine but the signal may be faulty.
I am totally lost now since my warranty just expired.

I haven't experienced this problem, been using my Envy 15 for about a year and a half.

Oh well it looks like it is a hardware fault, I might have to sell it for scrap then since it is extremely expensive to repair this unless I can do it myself.

My machine has developed the same error in the last few weeks. I first noticed it with Shift-1 (!) but then it spread to brackets (Shift-9 and Shift-0) and now is affecting two of the arrow keys as well. Today 0 without the Shift is also flaky. Often if I press it for longer, or try tapping a few times, it starts working for as long as I am typing but later will be stuffed again. To me it feels like a firmware or software error, not hardware, because of the key combination aspect. I found a thread on HP's site where someone blames it on a recent Windows update, and another thread on this forum where someone fixed it with a Windows re-install. I may go down the same path, but because I'm in the last month of my warranty I'll go there first.

Hi Guys,
This is pretty lame to say the least. I had the issue as well with my Envy 15, bought a new keyboard, installed it (sort of a pain), still had the keyboard issue. I don't think it is your board guys. It is some lame thing that happened with MSFT update. At any rate here is the fix: I hope this works for you as it did for me. It actually comes from MSFT:
Troubleshoot wired keyboards that don't respond or that type wrong characters
support.microsoft.com/kb/258826
I used Step 3: I removed the HID Keyboard Device - your external keyboard will not function when you follow the instructions in step 3. When you boot, you get it back. It still had issues, but then I did the following below:
Additionally:
1 - Keyboards and Languages/Change Keyboards/ I removed all lan except English
2 - Region and Language/Administrative Tab/Change System Locale/ I selected English (United Kingdom) as an addition - you will have to reboot again.
So you will now have English as primary and English (United Kingdom) additionally.
I know this is lame but perhaps setting the locale and booting made the difference. At any rate the nightmare is over.
Good luck guys - love my Envy!! -
You don't have to sell it for scrap - see my post below -

I did fix this issue and I detail waht to do - this is not the keyboard, and I do believe that MSFT update(s) caused this issue. See my post below. -
See my post below - this fixes the issue with the keyboard. Happy Holidays!!
