The i5 has low temps, and the battery life is much better running it with reduced brightness. I've upped my estimates to 2.5 hours with wifi on and regular web browsing.

i think for this thread/forum the Envy dream snowball has grown too large.
Everyone is talking each other into hopes of certain features and now those are the ones with the bad taste in their mouths.
I am sure atleast 70% of the people that bought the Gen 2 envy was primarily due the the deep discount for the caliber of the notebook.
the rest of the perfectionist will never be satisfied...
not to be nit picky but there was about 100 pages of this thread going on about USB 3.0 and dual SSD. Get over it and wait for the thing to hit your desk! -
Couldn't agree more....
-
Nothing was actually promised aside from reports of usb 3"0 on the i7 verson. all the other information were assumptions made by people of this forum without any evidenceor facts, just self made hype and self produced disappointment.
-
It's not unreasonable to expect switchable graphics, especially when the i5 has a GPU on die. I don't see any reasons why HP would purposely disable it. Many laptops such as Asus' UL series and the MBP have switchable graphics.
-
Please let us know your findings. I was at a local BB yesterday and they have the XPS 1647 which has the i5 on-board, and it looks like the integrated graphics was disabled as there is no mention of it under device manager. I will need to restart the pc and check the bios, if they let me.
-
First off comparing Macs to PC is comparing apples and oranges. Its not a fair comparison. Second, HP is in another weight class, build, and its target market is different. It is unfair for you to expect that because it was never promised to you, a lot of things in this world is expected (I expect to always have clean drinkable water) but its not always going to be the case. Always do your research and know your facts before you buy. Dont just go pulling the trigger, thats all i mean.
Besides it is not smart to buy based on what could be and then complaining about it. -
here, for the doubter:
-
Thanks for the pics! How does Elder Scrolls run?
-
How's the matte screen?
-
this is the glossy 1336x768 screen, wish i had the matte one, but i cancelled that order. haven't run oblivion yet, almost done downloading. trying to test the battery too.
-
Ok, thanks....
Oh, have you run Vantage yet? -
after 40 minutes of constant downloading, down to 72 percent
-
Great!
+rep given
-
dont have vantage
-
that's with brightness down nearly all the way, i had been testing it with brightness at max and it was just barely 2 hours.

Hi John. I really think you are my hero.
Can you give me one quote from Psalms that can give me inspiration for the rest of the day?
Thank you -
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
-
Amen. Blessed is the man who is not tempted by materialistic things that surpass what they need in their everyday life.
Seriously, the wicked who think that their Envy will replace their desktop for AUTOCAD and the likes need to rethink their purchase.
Amen.
But seriously, I haven't heard that quote in a long while. Thanks for it. Rep given -
Then what are you doing on here hanging out with guys like us?!
-
i do not know, lol. not typing my sermon apparently.
-
So you really are a pastor? Whaatt! Pastor with Dr. Dre BEATS hahahahah
You are my kind of pastor. I really think you're a Caucasian though.
Or African American
not trying to be all racy -
i'm the whitest preacher in town. and i'm baptist, so don't dance well or have rhythm. I really liked the beats when i tried them at BBuy, knew I wanted them. Look cooler than the Bose QC15s, but the noise cancellation not quite as good.
I really may sell this thing. but keep the phones... -
Hey now... the Envy might replace their desktop for AutoCAD. Just not on battery power
-
I think that quote is more that he doesn't accept our counsel, rather than just being one of us
-
I doubt my desktop run very long on the CMOS battery...so I'd think it especially beat it on battery powerPitabred said: ↑Hey now... the Envy might replace their desktop for AutoCAD. Just not on battery power

The Dell I found earlier does come very close to what your getting, that's what is making me consider it if the battery life on my Envy doesn't work out for me.Pitabred said: ↑QFT. I really hope that the HM is in my machine so I can use the integrated GPU, but given what johnnobts has reported, I'm still not upset. It's not like my current notebook is any better. I think it's a horrible design decision on the part of HP, but given what I plan to do with it I'm still quite happy with it. Especially for the price... can't kick that in the teeth at all. $1400 for what's in my sig? Go ahead, find ANY other laptop that comes near that kind of power at that price (it has the dual battery option)Click to expand...
It has a better screen (w/E2E) but lower spec GPU. If you look at the quote again you'll see it actually costs about the same as what your getting. You need to subtract $180 for the i7-620 upgrade from i5-540 and $75 for the DVD which is built in.
So far this is, for me, the closest alternative that I've found. The form factor is close also, ~same footprint, .3" thicker and 1lbs. heavier. You also get get built in DVD, E2E and better sound system and (they claim) much better battrey life. All for $1465. View attachment 43733 -

No reason to not sell the whole package
Or just return the whole package...
-
that page doesn't exist, what were you trying to show me?Pitabred said: ↑http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...in_r329_ad_landing/accessories/center_tiles/1

...I just clicked on it. Might be some cookie thing. It just shows that you can get the Dr. Dre beats headphones separately for the low, low price of $300
does this link work better?
-
I got my beats for like $220 at the apple store on black friday. I'm sure you can find more on ebay though around that price.
also pastor john, i feel you. -
I am cancelling my order because I aleady have an envy 15 and I do not need a second one that has the same gimped processor on battery. I have decided that no laptop will give me portability and power like I hoped the envy would so I will get an asus ul30vt and probably a lenovo w710ds or other laptop suitable for photoshop and client approvals. I have decided I want a 16.4, 17 or 18 inch screen. I will not buy another mac, I have had it with apple as a company.
-
i can buy them for $234 from Buy.com or something. May just do that.
-
Does the i7 only have one USB 3 port? I've seen some conflicting statements on that.
-
I was read the review on this site here http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5453. There is no mention of the i7-920xm in the HP specs which we know is not always correct but the 2 reviews look completely different.altoid said: ↑http://hpfansite.com/hp-elitebook/hp-elitebook-8440w-review/ <---quadcore i7-920-XM just like I said!!! and there is mention of a 200 lbs man jumping up an down on it. woot! decisions decisions unless he was lying >:[Click to expand...

the 920xm on a notebook would be a juggernaught, both in power usage(45 instead of 35), cost(over $1000), and weight. I m not sure that is wise, it is very comparable to the 820qm except that it has the ability to be overclocked. Add in a 5850 or 5870 or geforce 360m and the wattage goes through the roof. The heating system on that machine must cost a fortune as well. The only one reason I can see a person needing it, is if they are a professional gamer and they go to a lot of lan parties. If you look at the benchmarks on notebookcheck.com its does like 10-20 percent better than the 820qm.threeply said: ↑I was read the review on this site here http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5453. yeah they are...if i do switch, it'll be for an 8540w either 720 or 820 not sure...depends on the price difference. Still have to try out my envy when it gets here though.threeply said: ↑I was read the review on this site here http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5453. I'm still jazzed about the 5830, especially compared to all the other GPUs out there in this size machine.
-
I'm sticking with the wait.
Usually i'm pretty hasty, but I think a newer n450 EEE PC can hold me over for a couple more days. Thank god for Best Buy. -
printed my label, they offered my $80 to keep the notebook... that's funny.
-
Haha, i aint cancelling mine
where am i gonna such a good deal on such an awesome specced laptop
-
i like the envy, its just i'm happy with my vostro 13 for portable stuff, and really am drooling over the new asus offering, the g73jh.
-
I wonder if an Elitebook battery will work with an Envy
-
I hope you do get yours sooner, I just decided what I need more than anything is reliability and stability and the elitebook seems to deliver that. I do want to play games on my machine but I'm sure the quadro FX1800M will be more than enough. I'm no serious gamer and I use my PC for everything. Between the DAW, dreamweaver, and CAD work elitebook just seems like a much better choice for me. If I were just looking for a good time the ENVY would by my hooker in vegas and I will definitely keep my eyes peeled to see how this fine piece matures.Pitabred said: ↑Just gets mine shipping that much faster
