actually style is at the bottom of the list for them. I wanted style and power so I got the envy and will not look back. I am not 16 any more so the alienware laptops will never be on my shopping list
-
What does age have to do with AW?
I am willing to bet more adults own AW systems than 16 year olds due to the high prices.
No need to hate on a great product
-
Damn ninthparadigm, call HP up and get them to fix that for you. Make them send you new modules and something in writing that it won't void your warranty to make the fix yourself!
=D -
This is frustrating. My EEE pc is holding me down right now.
-
I posted earlier...but feel I should put this one out separately. I just got my Envy 15 Thursday, and am about to talk to technical support. I wanted your opinions as well. This Envy is replacing a dv6t quad edition, where HP forgot to install the Bluetooth module I ordered. My problem is with the new wireless.
I have a 20Mbps line in my apartment, and my desktop is showing 20Mbps on speedtest.net. When I had the dv6t quad edition, the wireless was registering 18 Mbps, which I felt was fine. This Envy 15, which I hear has a better wireless adapter (Intel Centrino 6200) is getting half of what the dv6t did (about 8 - 10 Mbps). I've tried playing with some of the wireless adapter settings, but nothing works. Does anyone else have this problem? -
not hating on them, i just take my laptops to meetings with other professionals and i really don't need glowing red lights coming from every corner of my laptop.
If i was big into gaming and needed a portable gaming device alienware would be a great choice. -
If the lights concern you, you can turn them off
-
LOLLLLLLLLLL
It's happened. -
ninthparadigm, it is a shame to hear what you are going thru. Contact HP and ask for a replacement. A bad copy of Windows or some missing drivers must be causing that.
-
On a different note, does anybody know the exact specs of the RAM we use?
DDR3 PC10600 1333MMHz, how many pins? 204 or 240? -
Notebook DDR3 RAM is always 204 pin.
240 is desktop. -
204 pin 1066mhz on all systems it seems
-
Doing it in a bit.
I'm running all the diagnostic tools from the BIOS to see if there's anything else wrong.
I don't want to go to HP and be like, "Hey...i'm getting some blue screens and stuff..." -
Depends on who you define as the owner--the person who's credit card was charged, or the person who unwrapped the box for his 16th birthday?
I definitely think that the AW line is really geared to the late teen/early 20's crowd.
The only thing AW that I own is their mALX backpack. Best damn backpack ever. And yes, I am embarrassed about the Alien head stitched on the front!
-
thanks
-
So, you are one of those people that cares what others think
Me? I like what I like, others be damned
-
I wonder what the market of the Envy is...any ideas? (lets see if I fit in haha)
-
Soccer moms and people who like the fruit without wanting a fruity price tag. I don't think it's meant for any tech savvy people at all considering the apparent cost saving measure via the ram/chipsets/bios. It's meant to be a show off without having people question it's legitimacy insomuch as you can say "16gb ram 1.9ghz quad core processor 1 gb video card etc" -
Well, for starters, since the Envy doesn't have an Alien's head plastered on it, and it's not glowing like a bucket of radioactive waste from all it's orifices, I guess I would have to put it in the "adult, classy, and professionally productive computing device" category.
Do you fit?
-
well, i will admit my statement of 16 was a little exaggeration. I was just pointing out that the alienware is more for gamers and not for business people.
everyones use is different.
If i was bringing my machine to a lan party the alienware would have more of a wow affect than the envy would. if you brought the alienware to a business meeting some people might give you a funny look
-
I think envy is a bit too flashy for business. Maybe elitebook.
-
Ok, I am not a "soccer mom" and the rest of altoid's description, so that one is ruled out...
I think lancorp's suits me better...I like how it sounds too -
We have some elite books at work and i think they are sort of flashy too but that is comparing them to the boring Dell latitudes
but the flashiness on the envy and elite book are a good kind of flashy. at least in my opinion -
Here are the P/N and basic specs of the 4GB modules that shipped with my original envy 15 i7:

The 2GB modules were same series just a single letter change in Samsung P/N. -
Is the ram actually running at 1333?
-
You know thats not true. All of us here are pretty hardcore. High end video card, high end processors, awesome case. Power be damned processors even. I know you are upset but for what it is, its still a great package.
-
This I can agree with.
-
Too flashy? Only if you don't want your customers to think you make too much money off them!
-
It was on my original i7 model which was returned. I had 2x4GB from factory and a score 7.5 for memory in windows experience index, for whatever thats worth.

My RAM <filler>
