The answer is clear: don't think, just type! Like Hemingway.

To solve the palm rest heat issue when typing, you could just use the Speech Recognition in Windows 7, which works surprisingly well. It also helps with exercising your memory by trying to remember all of those commands to make it work.

Hi guys,
Yep i'm official an envy owner now. Haven't got time to tell you too much yet, im off out and ive litterally just got the thing running 10min ago.
All I can say for now is the laptop is a truly beautiful machine looks wise. The trackpad is a little buggy though and yes we did get screwed with the screen here in the uk, despite what was advertised on the site I brought it off, the screen is not fhd its the lower res. Anyways i'll be able to tell you guys more later. -

Hi People!
Just came back from my vacations in London.
Wanna update me? -
fedex now say Nov4 delivery to Irvine, CA! I cant wait - cant wait!
-
I just got confirmation mine shipped yesterday.
-
Nov. 4th for me as well for CA, but this isn't exactly 2-day shipping.
-
It was 2nd Business Day. Now, what do they define as "business day" I dont know...lol
-
On other news:
It is terrible, I just saw the Envy 13 and I fell in love!
That thing made the Sony Z to be a fat brick! And it was FAST! -

For those of you thinking of using the ATI MobilityModder from DriverHeaven.net to get the best driver for the 4830, you should probably hold off and keep your eye on this thread:
http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/191368-help-hp-envy-15s-mobility-hd-4830-error-bsod.html
In any case, will the factory-installed drivers be that inefficient anyway? -
I hope you guys that ordered your laptops on the 18th will enjoy them this coming week. I ordered mine on the 18th with you guys and mine got delayed until the 11th. :/
-
and btw in the email they sent us it says:
"Due to product constraints we will be unable to ship your order on the original estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 11/11/2009 or no later than 7 business days from the original estimated ship date. "
doesn't that mean they have till the 6th to get it out? since original ship date was 10/28 -

Well here I am typimg on my TabletKiosk rockin my 1024x768 rez
. Hopefully in 2 weeks i'll have my Envy, 11/11 ship date, ordered on the 18th. This thread should be renamed to "the official Envy 15 anticipation thread". Glad to see that those whom have got their Envys are happy with them. Only a couple of people with heat issues, so thats promising
. Lets see some reviews with pics allready!!!!!
can anyone tell me if the secondary sata connector is the same as the primary? I want to put 2 intel x25's in it so i'm hoping they are the same and will just need another standard sata cable. I know i will have to strip the casing off the drives and secure them together which doesn't bother me.

HP conveniently was immediate to charge the amount while it was not even built yet, didn't know they were allowed to do that.

Picked up my Envy 15 yesterday. Installed all of my goodies, transferred files over.
Been working heavy in Ps, Ai and AutoCAD Architecture and Revit '10.
Handles all these programs exceptionally well (obviously not as good as a fully powered desktop workstation) but it is plenty fast enough.
This laptop runs cooler than my Dell Inspiron 1520 with 9-cell battery. It's been up and running for almost 24 hours straight, plugged in on ac power, and it is barely warm to the touch. The Best Buy display model felt much warmer than this.
Touchpad needs tweaking, but I use a Logitech Nano anyway so it doesn't really affect me.
It is super light.
Screen is gorgeous. Full high res is amazing on this screen.
The only thing I have to work out is the battery slice. I think I will slide the slice into a carry on pocket in my roller, and the laptop in the bag on my shoulder. That way I'm not carrying the bulk on my shoulder, yet can still have the power on the plane.
I also have to work out how to more efficiently get movies on a flash drive to watch on trips, because the usb dvd is really useless.
However, that is the sacrifice I was willing to make.
Overall, I have ZERO complaints about the hardware.
I returned a brand new unibody MacBook Pro 15 with Win 7 for this laptop and I couldn't be happier.
I dated a mac for a few days, but she was like most of the other women here in LA, looked good on the outside, expensive taste, but lacked the go on the inside ;-) -

I am also set for a Nov 4 delivery- Miami, FL.
Edit: I agree, so much for 2 business day delivery. -

The envy 13 does look better than the Z though. And I say this after owning 2 vaios lol.

Shipment is now in alaska. I'm really hoping it gets here before the fourth, I'm in California

The SR with the 16:10 looked a lot taller than the 16:9 on the Z, but the E13 was the lowest one, the body felt/looked/was a lot thinner than the Z, and BQ felt A LOT better, more solid and stable. I did push the palmrest with my thumb on the 3 of them, even on the Timeline sitting further.
The Envy was the most firm of them, the lightest, and after launching 5 IE at the same time, some pics and random playing with Win7 it felt fast, and the switchable graphics are very easy to use.
Dang, I loved the 13...I hope my 15 has the same effect.
And yes Padme, I have this Owners Lounge, why? -
I'm completely sold on the envy 13 minus the incredible price tag for half the hardware of the envy 15.
-
Yeah, well, the price tag is impressively high, but honestly, for the BQ, form factor, weight, and all those goodies, if I had the money to throw on that one...why not?
I loved it the moment I saw it. -

Weight: 1.55Kg
Height:33mm (at max), 24.5mm (at min)
HP Envy 13:
Weight: 1.7Kg
Height: 25mm
So whilst the Envy is smaller than the Vaio Z, it weighs more. Also, with regards to the construction, the Vaio Z has a body made of carbon fibre, which is both lightweight and strong at the same time. I myself would go for the more powerful Vaio Z every time and just deal with the additional height, which is less than a centimetre, safe in the knowledge that it's lighter and more powerful than the Envy 13. Sure, the Envy 13 with it's 4330 might give the 9300 in the Vaio a run for it's money, but who buys 13" machines for gaming anyway.
This is of course without even considering the fact that the Vaio Z has better connectivity - who in their right mind decided it was a good idea to get rid of the VGA out on a 13" notebook that would likely get used for business....?!!? -
I mean, I dont know it there was something wrong with the Sony laptops or they were on a stand, but only the body (lids opened) where the KB is, looked 2/3 or 1/2 of the others, and I was really shocked. Seriously it is thin, but indeed not as light as the Z.
And I pressed over the Z and I saw the carbon fiber flex under the strong pressure of my thumb (concentrated obviously there must be flex) but the E13 seemed to NOT flex at all.
I have no Idea why, but that is what it seemed and indeed it impressed me, considering I know how the Z is light and thin and powerful. But the E13 seriously looked a lot thinner, and it did have the normal bat inside, no slice though. -
Where did you get your hp from if not from BB? Did you order the quickship model? (equivalent to the bb one)? (you said the bb model was warmer)
On a different note, I need to purchase a notebook in the next 12 days, thus, ordering a cto is not possible. Am I better off getting the envy from bb or the exact same model from hp with 2 day shipping? -
Whichever is cheaper?
I would go via HP due to the full refund, though I do not know how BB works on that.
Oh, and there was BCB of 10/15%, so from HP would be cheaper in the end -

way off topic but

As of January 1, 2008, the Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) no longer allows loose lithium batteries in checked baggage.
Learn more at http://safetravel.dot.gov/whats_new_batteries.html.
Some Tips for Safe Travel With Batteries
* Keep batteries and equipment with you, or in carry-on baggage - not in your checked baggage! In the cabin, flight crew can better monitor conditions, and have access to the batteries or device if a fire does occur.
-------------------------------------
I will keep the extra battery in the 2nd carry on, no worries here. -
I'll add another 2gb stick soon, cheaper on newegg though. -
I am on a plane 2-3 times a week, I don't want to worry about the stupid dvd drive. I won't need it on my travels, but occasionally I'd like to watch a movie. I'll have a to figure out how to do so sans dvd, but that won't be a problem. -
Then either use a program that can play from the hard disk, or use MagicDisc to mount the folder as a virtual DVD drive: http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-magicdisc-overview.htm.
Then you'd get full quality DVD with all features (captions, menus, etc). All free software. -

My Envy 15, is in Anchorage, AK and states "Int'l shipment release", est. delivery date of Nov. 4th to Minneapolis, MN... so much for 2nd business.
Now if the Packers can kill Farve tomorrow my weekend will be complete! -

As I am mostly interested in the raw CPU performance I performed a litlle test in the Harvy Norman shop running wprime on it. I was very impressed with quad core performance of it as it completed the 32m calculation in under half the time it takes for my T61p with a T9300 to do so. However, I also tested the Idual core performance and was not as impressed. When running wprime restricted to 2 threads the i820 was barely faster than my T9300.

Do you guys think the 1600x900 resolution on the Envy 13 will look too small? Is it comparable to a 1080p resolution 15.6" display?
