The Envy has HDMI 1.3 which has max resolution of 2560x1600p60. Source: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ry&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=4054996
If the monitor supports HDMI 1.3 then you will fine.
USB 3.0 won't bring any significant improvement in external DVD's but will be great for an external Blue Ray. Expect to wait for another year to get a reasonably priced Blue Ray ROM/Burner with USB 3.0.

I believe Serg is looking for actual wieght not the published spec.
-
Strange question, since I dont own a battery slice, what is the mWh HWMonitor is reading and how much does it actually weight?
-
Hi, I have the same system and pretty much exactly the same results.
However, I overclocked my GPU to 520/900 without any problems whatsoever (and didn't even notice a difference in heat according to the GPU temp monitor to be honest), and my 3dmark06 scores went up to around 8800. I haven't tried any other benchmarks and haven't bothered trying to clock higher. -
I am finishing up my review on this, after using it for some time, and I need only those actual weights...sorry for the questions...
-
I ordered the extra 6 cell and kept my other 6 cell from the returned i7 (paid hp for it on RMA) and returned the slice.
Now I will have 2 extra 6 cells which total 106 Wh and weight of under 2 lbs. Compared to the slice at 93 Wh and 2.5+ lbs...and the best part is the the 6 cells are thinner and have no latches sticking out like the slice...they fit perfectly inside a 10" notebook sleeve and that fits right in my computer bag. Voila! more capacity, less wieght and no 7.5 lb (w/slice) brick of a computer to deal while traveling... -
Odd, I could never get above 450 / 825 without it crashing in 3DMark06, even after upgrading the driver and CCC. always the same error about 'lost vertex..." maybe I had a lower grade GPU or different memory (DDR3) than you?
Also my temps never got above 58C on the GPU, almost like it was being throttled back somehow.. -
All I can tell you is the rating on the slice itself was 93Wh @ 11.1V. HWmon showed 97+W when fully charged.
-
Never seen any error about losing vertex. I'm using the MSI Afterburner tool to overclock. 520/900 is the highest that tool well let me try.
Temp wise on the GPU, it gets to around 65 under load both at stock clocks and overclocked. -
Thanks for the reply. I was using the AMD clock tool, maybe that was the difference....Doesn't really matter now since it's headed back to HP, hope I fare better with the new one.
-
I belive they will not raid ssd+hdd as this make no sense, but somebody here got it misconfigured this way. That person also got in trouble trying to disable it as the recovery image checks the size of the disks and will not recover when it has changed.
-
the USB3.0 news on the refresh is awesome. really excited about that, but still wish they would give us a backlit keyboard option and tell us what model SSD's are in the refresh
-
My buddy's gonna go berserk when he finds out it has USB 3.0.
This is a guy who still uses an Alienware desktop running a Ati 9800 Pro...... -
Does anybody here know if USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0? If not, then I would not get excited but worried...
-
I assume they didn't modify the motherboard of the i7 models, so the USB 3.0 only applies to the i5 model. Would I be correct in this assumption?
-
The guy on the video posted earlier today states it is backward compatible.
-
Hi Serg -- CPUID says of my slice:
Designed Cap: 93240 mWh
Full Charge Cap: 91642 -
Merci! And do you know the weight? I have found googling around 2.5lbs, is this true?
-
Of course USB 3.0 will be backwards compatible. lol
That would be the biggest blunder of all time if it wasn't
-
When I returned then reordered my laptop with the i7, I was told that USB 3.0 will be found in the new refresh of laptops with the 5830. I know that graphics and USB have little in common, but he told me that... If he misinformed me, I'm gonna be quite upset.
-
Well, since the 5830 is a part of the motherboard, then it should be there.
That is your refresh right there. -
I was kinda wavering on this thing after I bought it, but reading about USB 3 and switchable graphics today, I am actually really excited. Of course, if they ship it with USB 2 and dont allow you to use the IGP, I will be kinda pissed.
If you notice in the video, the guy points to NEC as a silicon provider, and then draw a line to the Envy 15. He says that htey have been certifying NECs stuff(ie. the controller in the Envy) since September, so there is really a good chance that these will ship with it. I mean, it would be really stupid for HP to have two different motherboards for this thing.
Also, did you guys notice hte custom Windows 7 skin that was used in the file transfer video? Is that an Envy thing or did the USB people just do that for fun? -
Has anyone ordered this morning and got the order confirmation email yet? All I got was the "Order being processed". My other order (canceling) got confirmed, but my new order isn't yet.
-
Just pulled the trigger and ordered an Envy 15 this morning with the $300 coupon. When I saw I could get an aluminum/magnesium clad laptop with a quad core processor, Radeon 5830 graphics, 1080p HD LED backlit screen, and dual Intel SSD drives for $2000 it was like someone else had said, "Christmas in January."
I've been lurking here since this laptop was released. I was killing myself for missing the 25% off sale (was a 1 day deal and I learned about it the next day) because this computer really is in a class of it's own with the specs, capabilities, and build quality it has. But now I'm glad I've waited because all the bugs seem to be ironed out (except the multiplier being locked at 7 on battery power issue), it supports DX11 (and maybe USB 3.0), and we can now get the SSD option. If I didn't get the SSDs the price would have been about the same as it would have been on launch day with the Bing Cashback deal.
I realize the SSDs are 1st gen Intel drives without TRIM, but what most people here don't realize is that the TRIM command cannot be used in a dual SSD drive setup no matter what drives you have. You can only use TRIM in a single drive setup and RAID 0 is going to give you a hefty performance boost over any single drive setup, at least until the drive gets cluttered but it may take me 5 years to clutter up 320 GB of space (then I can just wipe the drives and reinstall the software).
I would like to see a 32nm quad core, but we have no idea when that may be coming. When it does and the price drops, I'll probably swap out the 720qm and upgrade to 8 gb memory. I wish HP didn't charge you $550 to upgrade to the 820qm (it only costs them about $200 more.)
I'm really stocked about the SSDs, it should be very snappy. 7 years ago I installed one of the first 15k RPM hard drives in my computer and saw performance triple. A lot of people don't realize that since the hard drive is where you get nearly all your data from and processors have become so advanced, the processor is nowdays always waiting on the hard drive for data. The hard drive is never waiting on the the processor to catch up and process the data it's given. Thus the hard drive is by far the biggest bottleneck in these computers (especially in laptops where there are power restrictions) and these SSDs are by far the fastest hard drives ever made. The speed of these SSDs was unimaginable when I first installed my Seagate Cheetah 15k 7 years ago. We should see some bios updates from HP that will improve initial Envy SSD benchmarking scores too. -
SOmeone actually called me this morning to confirm my order. Is that normal?
-
Depends. Did you sign up with BillMeLater? They called me to verify that I had made the purchase on my account.
-
No, I payed with credit card, although I wish I used BML. I have the money right now so I don't need it, but I think BML helps build your credit rating.
-
Anybody have any experience with Billmelater? If you go past the Billmelater date are the fees, interest rates, and finance charges problematic? Would it be better just to put it on a credit card or take out a loan and pay it off?
-

Is the 300$ discount coupon working for anyone? Tried it a couple of times in the last 10 mins...says the coupon is Invalid.
-
Might be over. It was limited to 1800 uses, I think.
-
well i waited too long, so I will now just wait it out for a similar coupon and to see how everyone likes the new configs etc...
-
Coupon is dead guys. Sorry.
-
Is today a business day for HP? Since the coupon is dead, I'm really starting to worry about my order not being confirmed.
-
My order confirmation came an hour ago from HP, coupon worked as it was shown in the confirmation email. Billmelater called to confirm also.
-
wow, glad i got my order in last night. actually ordered 1 without using the coupon by mistake, called and cancelled and re-ordered with the coupon within 5 minutes.
-
as long as you have a confirmation email with the coupon applied, you're fine.
-
That's the problem. I ordered last night and still didn't get the confirmation email with order details and coupon etc. My first order that I canceled I did get the confirmation with all that. But, my new order didn't. I'm giving them a call right now.
-
interesting, they applied a different coupon to my order than the one listed here online, still for $300. i'll see if i can use this coupon again.
-
never mind, its invalid too.
-
can you share it?
nevermind
-
would have shared it, i think it was just a custom-created coupon since i didn't have the original coupon code when speaking over the phone. they were very helpful over the phone!
-
I called and the India lady just told me to wait until it's confirmed. She said on Monday. But, haven't you guys ordered this morning and got the confirmation email with your order specs and coupon in it?
-
I ordered last night and got confimation this morning.
-
Those who are wanting to buy, why not call HP and see if they will honor the coupon code?
-
my advice is to call HP. They were able to apply a 300 off coupon for me. I placed my order. Got the i5 with full 1080P glossy screen, dual ssd's, and slice battery. I am happy.
-
ditto, ordered at 10:00PM central time last night over the phone while driving to the movies (and didn't even know the coupon code, just said I wanted it applied).
-
what number did you call?
-
just called and they allowed the coupon no questions asked. It was very painless actually. I was expecting to talk to someone over seas that could not understand what i was wanting to do but this guy was extremely nice and freindly
