i wont lie to you it crossed my mind for a fraction of a second, but then I snapped out of it. It aint right at all.

I think of the Envy as more of a desktop with a UPS=P
-
Update on my problems:
Opened up the laptop, pulled out the RAM DIMM under the palmrest and replaced it with the one by the battery.
I ran Mass Effect 2, which typically gives me the issue, and it is hanging up like it usually does, except it isn't giving me the notification that the ATI driver is failing.
I'm going to try the CS stress test, which also gave the same notification before.
edit:
Take that back, it's starting to tell me again that the Display driver stopped responding and it's recovering. -
Besides i have an extra 6 cell and a warranty -
Just hit 10000pts on 3DMark06
posting screenshot on 2nd gen thread. O.C. at 566 / 1133 the GPU never got above 67.5C.

got my machine. it's setting up now, i'll make sure I keep this before I do alot of work on it... one thing i noticed is some faint scratches on the bezel, which annoys me to all hell. not sure if I will keep them or call and complain... has anyone else had this issue?
-
Got my envy a day before the scheduled delivery date. Had originally ordered with i5, but changed my mind after reading posts about USB 3.0 and went with i7. I wish I had also gone ahead and upgraded to SSD, but too late now. I am glad I found this forum. In the process of creating recovery disks.
I really like the feel of the keyboard and screen is good [glossy].
Question: I dont plan on clean install, but would like to create multiple partitions to store data and/or possibly create multi-boot later on. Can anyone please suggest a easier way to create partitions? -
-
-
I would call HP and ask for either a replacement or return.
No way would I try and troubleshoot faulty hardware after a clean install. -
BTW, this notebook should be fine after running prime95 for 24hrs at max right? -
Update again, just ran the CS stress test, same issue.
Basically anything graphics intensive, i'm getting the issue. -
-
I did have the hp diagnostic tell me at one time that I failed the memory test, so maybe I have 2 bad dimms.
It was also freezing on me during recovery as well, so I'm not entirely sure it's the graphics card.
Try out the hp startup test. Hit esc at bios screen. -
So I'm either going crazy, or my envy is trying to tell me something in morse code.

Warning: I put my microphone right next to the vents in front of the palmrests, so there is a lot of fan noise. There is also a high pitched, intermittent tone that has been driving me nuts. It may be hard to hear without headphones. Please don't blow your ears out!
Am I crazy or does anyone else hear it? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I thought it might be the HD, but I am not sure.
This is the i7 720QM 2nd Gen Envy with 1 320GB 7200RPM HD in it. -
-
I'm thinking it might be a bad capacitor or something...
-
And what driver does device manager showfor the GPU? -
checking the HP site, there's like 20 different Envy choices available. Which one is mine?
When i did the restore, I was under the assumption that the factory drivers SHOULD work. -
-
To check for CCC (catalyst control center) right click desktop and it should be at the top of the pop up list , click it and try reseting 'all' to defualt settings. Do this by clicking the 'options' drop down list near the red ATI logo then preferences then restore factory defaults. who knows, it may reset somthing to get you working.... -
great news I can play assassin's creed on my 22 inch hd monitor with NI komplete installing on the laptop monitor and theres no flinch. Only bummer is it takes about 3.2gb of my ram to do that, I shouldve gone for the 8gb lolz
-
-
just installed my 8GB of kingston pc 1600 but its only does CL9 at 1333
it sucks that there are no way to change this in the bios as the memory supports CL7 at 1600. oh well, i still replaced the factory micron memory so all 4 sticks match. the factory memory was the micron 1066 micron with CL7
I will be putting up the factory memory on ebay tonight or tomorrow.
still luving this laptop. the only thing i am not happy with right now is the sound. I dont like the speakers facing out, I wish they were on the top so i could hear them better, right now they give an echoing sound. -
would copying my recovery partition over to my nas benefit me in any way? lol yes, stupid question, but I don't know how this type of partition works (first machine I have bought with one on it)

Got a 1st Generation HP Envy 15 i7. Everything was fine for the first month I had it and then last week it started just freeze up on me. Black screen and even a blue screen with a ATI error message.
I have uninstalled adobe flash and reinstalled Google Chrome browser. I also turned off the adaptive lighting function and have not had any problems so far today.....
I see alot of people are experiencing this now and on the benchmark forums. Not sure if HP deleted any threads but I wanted to let people know so we collectively keep an eye out for the problem and solution.... -

Ima give it a whirl when I get home. -
I decided I'm going to reinstall clean windows 7 and give the machine a while to see if the noise persists.
I already noticed it's a bit quieter after coming home while charging it for a few hours. Is it possible the weather had something to do with it?
Otherwise, I'm really loving this machine. Haven't used it much yet, and want to test its gaming capabilities with a little Star Trek Online. -
can somebody help me with the video card driver?
-
I'm seeing a lot of reports of the black screen freeze issue. I hope I can get a stable computer that doesn't do this crap. WTH
-
I'm trying to decide which way to go. I could use the Anytime upgrade and then just remove excess app's I don't plan to use or do a complete backup of the SW folder and create a restore set and just clean format and reinstall everything. I'm just not sure which would be best/easier.
-
Clean install, for sure.....
-
-
for the record my machine was/is perfect out of the box minus some paint that flaked/chipped off at some point around where the bottom housing meets the palm rest. I just used 100% of the memory to do a full install of Komplete 6 from my external via eSATA to the HD. So that was about 60gb of data getting crammed through the 4gb of ram I have in this system for about 1.5 hours and no BSOD.
-
yo bro, can you upload the "driver" folder plz? -
-
This is the last time I'll repeat this, the drivers are in my sig.
also, someone posted them individually as well (do a search)
-
thx a lot bros, quick link will save lots of time

Just reinstalled windows, waiting for SWSetup & Activation file to get copied to my thumb drive from my desktop. I've always thought that formatting was much better (read: easier) than trying to remove bloatware, now I have proof.
Note: I have the 1920x1080 glossy and max brightness is really bright! My Samsung 19" IPS matte LCD is much dimmer and easier on the eyes. I'll have to get used to this glossy screen. It's otherwise great though and the build quality is top notch so far. And as others have noted, the keyboard is kind of annoying to use. I keep mistyping on because of the extra buttons on the left side. It isn't that big of a deal for me though. -
Several people talk about how easy it is to reinstall and I agree. But I can't seem to get the OSD to work when I press the volume buttons (F9/F10). I've installed everything people mentioned here before. What could I be missing?
-
MSMenu and the MS silverlight app.
-
-
Mine works.
It started working after I installed the QLB, MSMenu, and silverlight. -
are your SSD speeds even better after a clean install?
-
Not sure if this has been said before.
If you are having trouble with two finger scrolling then you should disable the zoom and/or rotate gestures.
I think they are nearly worthless anyway in windows.
The trouble I was having with two finger scrolling was the drivers were having trouble telling which gesture I was performing. This caused the scrolling to either delay or not happen at all sometimes. With the above disabled it never misses the two finger scroll anymore.
Anyone figured out a way to get two finger taps for right clicks? -
I returned my i7 one for a replacement - the touchpad was kind of loose on the lefthand top corner and tech support recommended a replacement. Had to spend some time with sales and then some more with resolutions since they couldn't approve the difference for 400+. But finally they fixed everything and gave free 2 days shipping.
CSR mentioned that the new models doesn't have the instant on solution, but they will have HP Quick Web. Does anyone know whats the difference?
Btw I got the cancelled i5 model today morning and I have to say it is a lot cooler than the i7 while playing crysis. -
samething happened to me..
canceled my i5 envy 15, replacing i7 envy due to harddrive clicking noise...
