There are two versions of the AMD clock tool, when I had my i7-720 only one of them would recognize the temp sensors. Also you have to go to the 'thermal sensor' tab and highlight the sensors until the small check box labeled 'enable reading' turns black (from greyed out) and then check the box. Their should be 2 or 3 sensors that can be selected.
Older tool is here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1128/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.8.html
Newer tool here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1641/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.26.0_For_HD_5870.html
Hope that helps.

@JJb
When you change clocks using the tool will the change stay after reboot or sleep until you change it? I thought it did with my last system but with the one that just showed up yesterday I upped the clocks and rebooted and when I relaunched the tool it showed my clocks being default, actually they even reset just from going to sleep. Did I do something wrong? -
Nothing...it wont change...
-
If you mean the temp monitoring I had to also click the "Start" button right below the"Eanble Reading" checkbox before temps would show.
-
I know, but the "enable reading" wont come to black...i cant select it...with either of those tools
-
I was able to get the AMD tool to work as well. YAY!
Serg, did you click on any of the 3 line items? After you select one, the 'enable reading' box should open. -
I got it to work only on ASIC Temperature Internal TSS and it is running at 600MHz the Engine and 1000MHz the Memory...in theory
How do I change it or select all of them? -
I have three seperate lines, all with ASIC Temperature via internal TSS 0, 1, and 2. If you've tried clicking on each one, then clicking on the 'enable reading' box, i'm not sure what's the issue with yours.
Just to double check, you're in the 'thermal sensors' tab right? -
This is what I see:
Even if I click on the other 2 options, I get nothing...it doesnt work.Attached Files:

I get AMD GPU clock tool to work but it restores back to default values after reboot ? is there any way to solve this
-
How can I scroll my mouse ?
-
Put two fingers on the touchpad about a finger-width apart, and scroll them down or up the touchpad. After that starts, as long as you keep one finger in contact the whole time you can "walk" up and down documents with your fingers.
-
Well you can do the two finger move for up/down or L/R or if you go to your system tray and click on the synaptic icon and there is a setting you can change so drawing a corkscrew shape will scroll.
On a related note when I went to my tray to get the info I no longer have the synaptic icon. If I go to control panel and click on mouse I get an error message that says "Unable to connect to the synaptic pointing device driver" and offers to uninstall the driver if I've installed another PS/@ Device driver. As far as I know I haven't other than using WAU to go to ultimate. any suggestions on how I could fix this as the pad works but it won't let me disable the the pad by tapping in the corner and I can't get to the settings to change scrolling and such.
EDIT: Well no idea what was going on but reran the synaptic setup and now shes working. The choice so the corkscrew movement scrolls is called ChiralMotion Scrolling under one finger Scrolling options if you go to the device tab and then click settings. -
As I recall you have one of the very first builds of the Envy. If you go back to the O.P. of the original thread you will see some screen shots of GPU-Z that show higher base clock rates of 425 / 800 versus later builds, like the one I got in december, that were clocked at 400 / 700. Maybe the first batch have a different variation of the 4830 with limited sensors? Also if your getting 600 / 1000 without changing the settings then I'm pretty sure your using the wrong clock tool version, both tools would read speeds for me but only one would actually allow me to change the settings.
@Bratboy...
The AMD tool has always acted this way for me, resetting if rebooted. I always set the clock speeds as the last thing before running a benchmark etc. My guess is that it's a safety feature so you can't burn up the GPU by forgetting to restore defaults after needing OC'ing. -
Ah, tyvm JJb. For some reason I was thinking with the last Envy I had it was actually sticking and thought maybe I was missing or had forgotten a setting.
On a sidenote I did get my replacement yesterday and so far so good. That annoying "ting ting ting" noise I was hearing isn't present on this one and so far it all looks good. On;ly played with overclocking some but at 550/1010 it was running fine, what do you think I should shoot for for testing OC next? Still ended up with 1066 memory but I did pick up some of that kingston Hyper memory mentioned and just need to get brave enough to open this one up and install it
-
Those are the "modified" speeds...as in going faster...already crashed my laptop when going to 1100 (oddly 1200 was more stable only more artifacty). But I have only one sensor and a speed of 400/700 too. I have yet to test it.

Hi,
Can someone in UK please advise the best place to purchase HP Envy 15-1110ea
I've checked with HP and googled it but the only places I can find are small outlets which I don't trust.
Please help ... Thanks
-
Hi everyone!, I bought my Envy 15 on December, I've been reading this forum once in a while but never wrote anything. I don't know if somebody has written this, but I found a way, by casuality, to reduce the heat of the envy. I use a cooling pad, with one fan in the center, it didn't help too much so I was thinking to get another one more powerful. But I use the envy 15 all the time connected to the source power, so I removed the battery, and it help to cool the laptop. I believe that the fan now works better because the envy has a hole where the ram is, so the fan sucks air from inside the laptop. I can't tell how much degrees it cooled down, but believe me it works. I'm now completely satisfied with the envy, I hope this help you too.

Hi there! And welcome to the NBR Forums and to this little Envy 15 Owners' Lounge!
Have you tried PCWorld? That's where I first saw it, but remember that most, if not all, in the UK are not WUXGA, fi that matters... -
Thank you very much
-
You can create a shortcut to " 'C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe' -eng=500 -mem=1000" (replace the numbers with your desired clock/memory speeds) and put it in the Startup folder in your Start Menu (or create a task in Task Scheduler and set it to start at system startup).

Thanks for the tip

has anyone had any issues trying to change the windows logon background screen?
When I load LogonStudio, i'll hit the apply button after selecting my theme, and then it jumps straight to the lockscreen with the existing background. It never changes to the selected background. -
Anandtech reports that as of 10.3, AMD will ship a unified monthly driver for desktop and laptop cards.
WooHoo!
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3743&p=5 -
Nope, my copy switches to the selected theme when it pops me over to the lock screen. I don't have any ideas what might be going wrong other than it not running in Adminstrator mode.
-
Cool, nice to know. It will make life a bit easier
-
Has anyone tried using their's outside on a sunny day? Can it even be used, or is it too dim?
-
Is that for the 4830 or 5830?
-
Does that mean the 10.3 driver set will work on the 1st gen Envy's?
-
Awesome suggestion.
Based on this, I created 3 shortcuts on my desktop:
* Low clock speed for endurance web surfing on battery: -eng=50 -mem=100
* Normal clock speed: -eng=100 -mem=200
* High clock speed for gaming: -eng=500 -mem=1000 -
All UK 15-1110EA (VY195EA#ABU) are 1920 x 1080 screens, 8Gb memory with external BD-ROM.
Cheapest I found was Lambada. Got mine next day, would recommended.. unless you want to pay full RRP. -
So there is finally a WUXGA in the UK...nice...it was about time. Sorry, then I am already outdated...hmmm
-
How large is the background image you're using? It has to be under 256kb.
-
i'm using the solid background color.
I figured it out though. I deleted the HP theme from the personalization window, and it automatically switched my lockscreen background.
Now I want to change my account picture, but it won't let me browse for any pictures. Weak. -
I just got rid of the whole 'stardock' program when I did the clean install, it's just resource hogging bloatware. Windows defualt 'personalizations' works great and is much faster loading and no issues customizing anything.
-
So what are typical OC's for the 4830 gpu in the First Envy's.
I have been good at 500/800. -
Is there any other way of changing the lock screen background?
Logonstudio or Objectdock isn't slowing down any of my programs, so it's no issue. -
Quick one guys, is there a way to use the HP Beats equalization software if you're using a bluetooth headset as your audio output?
-
Does it really use hm55 chipset?
-

I'd love some help:
I am still having an issue where hitting the volume buttons will minimize a game or exit a full-screen video when the on-screen indicators appear.
Is there an updated driver for this? Could someone point me to it?
Otherwise, the Gen2 Envy has been wonderful, and plays games better than my old Gen1. -
ya, im having that issue too.
-
Yeah, that's seriously annoying =X
-
Oops! Actually I'm not sure about changing lock/logon screen -- I load directly to my desktop. I have no need for lock/logon since I am only user it just slows things down.
With the SSD I am loading from a 'cold start' to desktop in 19sec and online 8 seconds later, total 27 seconds. Full restart in 34 seconds. My old Dell 1705e with a fresh win7 install and 500GB HDD isn't much slower (again with no logon) at ~45 seconds from cold start to online.
I also bypass a logon screen when waking from sleep or hibernate so I am right back to what I was doing almost instantly. Just change power plan setting to not require password on waking. -
Why need 8 seconds to get online?
-
I think it's my ancient g band router but not sure. My older dell (a/g)actually gets online faster than the envy. Any ideas how to speed the envy up?
I did not load the HP 'wireless assistant' after install, that seemed to slow things down even more. -
Intel posted a microcode update a week ago:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2643&DwnldID=18683&lang=eng
The description says it's for Linux only (the download is just a .dat file, nothing to see or read), and the description says microcode updates normally are done through BIOS. There's no description what changes are made, so it got me curious. Any ideas? This seems to be a general update for many mobile processors, so probably nothing that solves any i7-specific problems. -
yep, about time... shame we still don't get the 2 x X18-M option
-
Mine shows PM55 in device manager.
-
Well, overall this second machine is nice. So far no creaking or noises. I pulled up the system info and notice it does have the f.18 bios.
-
Guys can someone post that fresh install guide again. I forget what page it's on. Offshore and the net is terrible.
