HP Envy 15t with 740M can barely play DOTA2 at 720p with lowest settings possible, something wrong ?

    So I have the Envy 15t I bought last year with a 1080p screen, 16gb ram, 4700mq and 740M

I would expect this card to at least play DOTA2 at 720 with at least 50FPS but I've turned basically everything down to lowest possible and still getting constant 28 - 30FPS with spikes only up to about 38 - 41FPS .

Am I expecting to much out of this graphics card or is something wrong ?

Its really a mainstream entertainment card. Definitely not a gaming card at all.

With that being said, Did you check if the card was running full speed? (Via gpu z) Or any other throttling, perhaps?

Yeah, it's not but I at least expect it handle DOTA2 at a decent FPS at lowest settings .

How do you check for throttling

    looking at GPU - Z Capture - GPUZ.PNG While running DOTA2

I can't tell if it's being used but memory seems a bit low ?

Try using Nvidia Inspector. You should be able to overclock the GPU by the default allowed +135MHz for the GPU and you can try bumping up the memory by a couple 100mhz to see if that helps a little with FPS. You may get a 10% improvement from that. I had the same issue with my 650m in my old HP dv6t. It overclocked quite well. I was able to over clock the GPU by +340MHz and the memory by +1100MHz. It made that little card run the new NFS games with way better FPS vs what it could do stock. But for those boosts I had to make a batch file to force it to overclock that far.
