Hey guys, I am new and I'm not sure whether to post here or in the Pavilion section, but here I go.
Firstly, I am torn between these two laptops. I am loving the hardware of the Envy 15 most definitely, not only is it thinner, it has a slot loading drive that looks better; has an IPS display that has reportedly been fixed of the red issue; has the unique beats volume button and the inside just looks fantastic. On the other hand, I much prefer the lid of the DV6 as just looks so sleek and doesn't leave fingerprints which I've heard the Envy does easily.
However, the internals of the Pavilion far beat the Envy's. The US store gives a free upgrade to blu-ray, 8gbs of ram, has a matte 1080p display. offers a 9 cell battery, and the graphics card is slightly better, and lastly HAS A FINGERPRINT READER! Overall, with a hybrid hard drive, the cost adds up to $1029.99. (after $400 off offer)
So largely it's form over internals. I've heard that the PAvilion gets really hot, and tbh the inside looks very average. Backlighting leaks out of the keys and the 9 cell sticks out slightly. However while the Envy looks better, there is no fingerprint reader and battery life is not as good. With my preferred specs and after the $450 rebate the cost adds up to $1200.
I do not really mind the extra cost since this laptop is gonna last me a LONG time (example, curret lappy is a 4 year old Compaq Preario C500that runs at 1.6Ghz) but what really gets me is that after the upgrades the internals of the DV6 are still better than the Envy.
P.s. Oh, and also, I live in the UK, but you can't get either laptops here and its almost double the price ( I estimate it will cost around £1300=$2000usd!!) and is not customisable. Does anyone know a way of buying the laptop from the US store and getting it here? Thank you soo much.![]()

I struggled with this same problem earlier in the month with the DV7 and the Envy 17. The pavilion line does seem to have somewhat more flexible configurations but the envy line can match it should cost not be too much of an issue. I also keep my PC's as long as you do, I have a 7 year old Dell Dimension 9100, and if you're going to have a notebook around as long as you plan to then it makes sense to me to go with the superior build quality in this case. I went with the envy, still waiting for it to ship unfortunately. I did regret missing out on the fingerprint reader but other than that I dont think there's anything the pavillion can do that the envy cant. You can always add more ram or an SSD for speed later on if you need to cut corners due to budget. I prefer to be attracted to the design of a piece of hardware I'm going to have around for a good while than put up with design flaws that HP clearly knows how to avoid.

^well said.
Here's what I'm lOoking at to add fingerprint reader to the envy... Product looks good but I'm not sure how the the software will integrate. The one that hp use with pavilion seems very neat... You can log into pages online with a swipe eg. Facebook, gmail.

Thanks man, due to your help I have finally decided to go with the envy! I think like you said that the extra cost is worth it since the higher quality hardware will allow it to last longer. I have heard that the Pavilion line has great performance but experiences many hardware issues.
As for the fingerprint reader, it looks great, however the advantage the Pavilion one over this one is that the software is integrated. I'm not sure the external software can unlock the computer when it comes out of sleep mode. Anyway, people could be arseholes and remove it...
Thanks guys- now I just how to figure out how to get it here :S -
No problem man. And good luck getting it to you indeed, I don't know about the 15 but some people including myself are experiencing ridiculous delays with the 17 for one reason or another.
HP Envy 15t-3200 or HP Pavilion DV6t Quad??
