    Hello all,

I finally received my long awaited HP ENVY 17t-3200 in the mail the other day. I quickly opened it up and was very excited to run games on it. I installed some games and ran them, they ran ok, but not as good as i thought they would be for the i7 processor and AMD Radeon™ HD 7850M Series GPU. I don't believe the laptop is switching from the Intel graphics to the radeon card. Has anyone else had this problem? I installed all the windows and HP updates before I ran or installed any games. I ran Microsoft Flight Simulator X, that game is from 2005 and ran it on full graphics, the game play was slow, though the graphics were sharp. I could estimate it was running around 8-15 FPS. Minecraft runs ok at 40-60FPS, but I believe I should be getting way more then that.

I already tried using the Catalyst Center for AMD to change settings but it does not really improve anything. When I play games the fans do not speed up, its like the laptop isn't even "trying" to run the games. I ran a 3DMark 11 benchmark test and the videos were played around 4-5 FPS. This is not what I expected at all, especially for this GPU and CPU. Is there anyway to solve this or set the laptop to just use the Radeon card?

    Thanks

Right click on the desktop and select Configure Switchable Graphics after running the game to tell it explicitly to use the "High Performance" graphics card. This ensures the programs you want to use the 7850 to use it if they don't auto-switch.

I have tried that, it only improves slightly. And when i change the graphics settings in the Control Center, they reset when I go back into the program.

Are you closing the game before you change settings in the CCC? Are you hitting "Apply" at the bottom after you change those programs to "High Performace"? If so, you may have a hardware or software issue. Open a ticket with HP or just return it since you got a 21-day return period from hp.com.

I'm not having any of those issues on my brand new Envy 17t-3200. I've got World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3 installed and the performance is very good.

There's new 12.10 drivers out for the ATI card. Download it, install it and see if that helps any.

Unfortunately, it's not a compatible driver and won't even install.

I think hp stopped selling it because it is has problems beyond any updates can resolve? Mine has a Windows Experience Index score of 6.8. My 2010 Envy 15 with an AMD Radeon HD 5830M currently has the same score.
