I did a fresh install of 7 from CD installed all drivers and card reader isn't working, called HP and RMAd it, they sent it back working and said "You didn't install the drivers right" so I boot the laptop up and behold a fresh install of HPs crappified Windows 7.

When I installed Windows 7 fresh I did install all of the drivers and software from HPs site (First time I installed I used the drivers here, card reader still didn't work) and the card reader still is not working, the only thing I can think of is they have a special order or piece of software that they don't put up on their driver site?

The card reader is working but only because they re installed the factory image to it. If I try to install a fresh install from windows 7 dvd the card reader stops working until I once again recover from the recovery partition. This is a huge bother as if I want to go to windows 8 per a fresh install I'm not sure if I will be able to get the card reader working.

This as well as no option to disable the intel graphics card and only use the amd is also a LARGE bother.

Can't be too, ummm, 'crappified' if it's working. The Envy ships with what is really a pretty clean install. I can't help but wonder what it is about the HP op-system install that bugs you...

Still, there's the mystery of why the reader isn't functional after a fresh install. FWIW, there are two versions of the card reader listed for your machine. If you have tried the latest ones, I'd uninstall them and then install the oldest ones, followed by installing the latest ones on top of them.

See the bad part about this is:
The ones on the HP support site do not work, and the ones in the driver thread do not work. The only way the card reader works is if there is a recovery install done instead of a fresh install.

Nothing bugs me about their install, I've been using it since I got it back from RMA when they did a recovery install. But the premise of me buying a laptop and not being able to do a fresh install if I wanted to is just dumb.

I love this laptop but when it comes time to buy a different laptop, I will be looking at other OEMs that aren't HP. The most notible reason is the Hybrid Graphics system. Its cool in theory but a pain if you EVER want to run anything other than windows.
