    Hello all,

Anyone else have the issue of their fan being always on even when the laptop is not hot? I already turned off the 'always on' fan setting in BIOS and it's still on all the time.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

Check your "Coolsense" settings...for they can override the bios settings. HP Support Assistant...Troubleshoot...Power, thermal and mechancal...then choose the thermal tab...I uninstalled Coolsense 2.1 and went back to 1.0....but the 2.1 settings there should be On, Off. I have mine set to Performance optimized...which means fans only run when temps rise...on yours, that should be off. ON means coolest mode, which means fans run all the time..

Where can I find Cool Sense 1.0? I can only find download links for the latest version. It would be great if it was possible to set the fans to "silent". I've tried turning cool sense off and switching off "fan always on" in BIOS but still the fan is constantly working.

I first uninstalled CoolSense & HP Support Assistant from the Control Panel. Then downloaded HP Support Assistant from HP Customer Care/Drivers & installed. It automatically installs CoolSense 1.0.

Before I only had the option of Coolsense being on/off. Now we can select modes for stationary/mobile. And I used the settings Performance Optimized recommended by Bobmitch.

There no longer is an HP CoolSense icon in the Control Panel. Just go to Start & type coolsense to bring up settings. Or type hp support assistant then go to troubleshoot/power, thermal & Mech/thermal/hp coolsense.

This constant humming sound bothers me a lot... :( Nothing can be done about it. This is the minimum sound that will always be there because there is no way to shut the fan down completely.
