Can anyone confirm the brightness of the 120Hz HD (1920x1080) display used in the new HP Envy 17 3D?
I heard 400 and 410 nit. Wouldn't that make it equivalent to the Radiance display?
I can see how it would need to be brighter since the 3d shutter glasses reduce brightness.

the brighter the better. i've read it was 400 but in real world tests it may be lower. notebookcheck will eventually do a test on the display. I'm very excited about it, but dang, they need more 3d movies already. cloudy with meatballs just doesn't do it for me. and whats this about avatar only being sold with purchase of a panasonic player? dumb...

pretty sure 3d blurays will NOT work in 3d on this laptop
-
yes they will

If it doesn't out of the box, I would imagine (or hope) a firmware upgrade somewhere down the line could change that, just like with the PS3 blu-ray player. -
I have read that HP's primary focus with the Envy 3D was 3D blu-rays rather than just gaming, which may be why no other optical drive is offered. I am going to guess the HP reps are right.

It seems until you actually get the laptop you may not know what your getting.
Looking at the official HP spec sheet it has many errors such as stating this will not play Blue ray disk's. It is not hard to see someone at HP did a lousy job of the footnotes.
1. 3D glasses and content required to view images in 3D. 3D visual experience may vary by viewer.
2. As HD DVD is a new format containing new technologies, certain disc, digital connection, compatibility and/or performance issues may arise, do not constitute defects in product. Flawless playback on all systems not guaranteed. For some HD-DVD titles to play, may require HDMI digital connection and display may require HDCP support. Blu-ray disc movies cannot be played on this PC.
That is a cut and paste from this page.

Envy 17 3D fully support 3D BluRays.

I do not doubt that it does. However the info on HP's site is full of error's.

David Conrad, Director of Product Marketing at HP said in a video (on YouTube) introducing the Envy 17 3D that it does support Blu-ray 3D.
