So, I know there's various different problems that people have with this laptop.. I didn't get any of the QC issues.. But rather a problem with the keyboard missing keystrokes and some cracking in the speakers/headphones when used. I've done a dpc test, and the latency goes off the charts and the computer says there's a problem with a driver.. I've done all the updates available, flashed the newest bios, and none of the problems have stopped... was there ever a fix to either of those that seemed to slip past me?
Edit: I just looked into it, and I had the F.05 Bios... So I looked around some more and found the Win+B fix... and my keyboard is seeming to work fine.. For now
Now... I still have the latency issue... I'm using DPC latency, and it's saying that there's a bad driver or whatnot... So... Anyone know what I should do about that?

For what its worth:
Try disabling your wireless card and network card in the device manager and see if that effects the latency.
Use this tool: Resplendence Software - LatencyMon: suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks
It will get you more info and help you narrrow down what is causing the problem, Post back here with the results.
For the keyboard: i had the same problem and the fix only worked for awhile - caused me to return my envy (Now waiting for them to release a fix before i reorder) -
And for the network card disabling, I'll have to do that at a later time, currently downloading a large file (several gigs) and it wont resume if I were to cancel it.. -
Ok, I disabled the network card (the intel N 6300) and it fixed the latency issue right on the spot... Does that mean I have an outdated driver? Cause... I can't update the driver from there..
Went to the driver page on this forum, looked at my driver version, lo and behold, it was outdated.. by a lot. So, downloading and updating! Thanks for the help! +rep! -
Not a problem, if that does not fix the issue drop another reply in this thread.

After rebooting and doing all that.. Realized, it didn't fix it all the way... the spikes aren't AS bad, but it still an issue.. And I tried and made sure that it was the wireless card still that was causing it... and yeah, it is... :/

Yep, bought this computer for DJing, for which it has turned out to be completely useless due to the latency / static / SQ issues. a 5 year old Dell performs better. I'm going to insist that HP take this machine back.
That isn't even counting the trackpad issues, where the left and right mouse buttons are part of the trackpad, so you cannot accurately click on anything because the pointer moves as you click. Again, unacceptable engineering from a high end laptop. -
omicronx9: I too do some DJing as a side job, if you find another laptop is this price range that is the same spec-wise please let me know. Ive been searching for a few days now with on luck.
I'd appreciate it,

Everyone: Please make sure you contact HP with these issues.
Hit up their main customer service email, and the "Contact CEO" email. -

To be completely honest, I have an old dell studio with win7 x64 and c2d T4200 that handles traktor scratch pro and virtual DJ just fine at higher latencies. That is a $500 machine that is more reliable than this one. I'll never be buying HP again after this.

My problem is that i need it to look decent, If i was just djing it would not matter. Its gotta do a lot more than that and look professional (which nowadays means look like an apple...gah).

Update:
So, my keyboard has been mostly fixed through that bios restore.. It gives me a little bit of trouble every now and then, but for the most part, it's "fixed"
Along with that, there's no more audio cut outs. The Latency got "fixed" after an update on my wireless driver.. Thanks everyone for your help! -
People who have used the BIOS recovery fix for the keyboard issue: does it solve the problem entirely?
-
It mostly fixed it... I'll still find the keyboard to miss a character if I'm typing too fast.. But, I have a netbook (Acer Chromebook) for when I'm doing writing.. I normally write a >1000 word email every night.. So, to write on the envy is a little annoying if I'm typing fast.. I will say that the BIOS recovery did make the problem happen less often and fixed keys like my backspace.. I'm thinking about doing it again, seeing if that would help... Doubt it though, I think it's sorta a spin of the wheel..

UPDATE!!!!!
Sorry for the double post... But!!! I tried something that someone else did online and it FIXED my keyboard!!! I can type as fast as I want without any errors (other then my normal human-errors). In the BIOS settings, turn on hardware virtualization! I'm curious to see if this fixes it for anyone else.. But, I'm going to play around with it for another day or two and get back to you guys about it! So far, works PERFECTLY!
Update (3/19/12)... After a few days of using it, the fix that I found has helped the issue by a lot... But there's still some issues with the typing.. It reduced it yet again, but I'm just thinking about if I should keep this laptop... This laptop has been awesome, love the look, specs, and price.. But the keyboard is really difficult to use.. After using my netbook the other night again (Where I type at least 3 times as fast on it), it was nice to use a properly working keyboard.. My deadline is coming up friday for the return... If I were to switch, what brand/laptop should I go for? I want something with a backlit keyboard, 17'' screen, similar specs (i7, 2 hdd bays, 8 gigs ram)... what do you guys think?
Should mention, I didn't have to fix anything on that above paragraph.. The usability of the keyboard has really been improved through bios recovery and Virtualization... -
Look into the nicer Asus or Samsung models.
-
Thing is... I really love this laptop, and with the recent recovery of the 15's bios keyboard fix, that gives me hope that they'll release one for this.. Besides, I hate the look of the samsung and Acer laptops..
