    Hi

I have an Envy 17 1050ea and I'm looking to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. I ran a program which checks what type of RAM the notebook has already and it states it is samsung PC3-10700 ram. I ran the Crucial memory program and it recommended the following 8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for HP - Compaq Envy 17-1050ea Laptop/Notebook, CT2108918 from Crucial.com but that is 10600 instead of 10700. Is the recommended RAM of the same quality as the Samsung RAM currently installed?

    Thanks

Crucial is one of the biggest manufacturers of RAM (and SSD's) and there are no quality issues. As for the numbers, here is a bit of an explanation.

    What do they mean when they say 'pc3-10600 vs pc3=8500 or pc3-12600 - Chipsets-Bios - Motherboards-Memory
The figures are not that important.

The Crucial Ram is faster at 1333 MHZ then the Samsungs 1066 MHZ.
If you want a performance boost go for an SSD, there are not many applications that will put a dent in 4GB of RAM let alone 8.
