    Hey All,

I just received my HP Envy 17 in the mail today - the machine is absolutely gorgeous. I took a bit of time uninstalling old programs and installing what I deem to be necessary software. I originally was freezing once or twice an hour for some reason and I followed a thread that involved updating the wi-fi driver so hopefully that disappears.

One thing i've noticed (In comparison with my Vaio FW490) is that the color and screen looks a bit washed out. I understand that this screen might not be of better quality than my old screen, but do any of you have specific programs / profile settings that maximize vibrance and color? (i.e. my whites don't seem bright enough).

Second question - whenever I move around in Firefox 4 / IE (switch tabs, scroll down a page, etc) I hear the HD making noises as I do it - is this normal for any of you? It's seemingly minor, but I never experienced this on my old devices.

    Thanks for the help!

I was just googling for this very same issue and this popped up.

I too have this issue. I have the Envy 17-2090nr now. Whenever I scroll in IE or Chrome, I hear this high pitched noise. It sounds like it is the HD, but I will make sure soon enough since I'll be swapping out the drives.

    EDIT:

So the sound is quite prominent with IE. I tried Chrome again and the sound seems to be gone.

I also have the problem where the HD will...buzz? as I scroll on the Internet, bit I have a first gen i5. As for your monitor problem, all I can tell you is maybe play around in the graphics card control center under "desktop management" and find a setup that works for you.

I believe the high pitch noise is capacitor squeal from voltage changes. This is actually quite common on many computers and is definitely annoying. There isn't a good way to fix it but you will get used to it after a while. =P
