HP Envy 17 quality issues

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share my experience with my Envy 17 and its quality issues, I really like this laptop and want it to be perfect but unfortunately I've been very unlucky with HP lately.

I'm wondering if any of you Envy 17 owners have quality problems with your product especially with the LCD???

Right now I am typing on my 3rd Envy 17 replacement and it is still far from perfect.

First one had about 6 stuck pixel, 4 on the bottom left corner and 2 near the centre of the screen.

Second one also had stuck pixels, 2 close to the centre of the lcd and a huge scratch on the lid.

The last one is the best of the three, no stuck or dead pixels but there is a strange small white spot on the screen, only visible on white and other bright backgrounds, it doesn't bother me as much as a bright pixel but it's still there looking at me every time I use the laptop... Oh, I forgot, the base of the laptop is slightly uneven, maybe 1mm.

I'm probably going to keep this one cause I can't take HP CS anymore.

Just had a look at your posts, looks like I'm not the only one struggling with the Envy... I feel a bit better knowing that other people have screen issues like me.

 

Ok, got my 4th replacement, this time nearly everything is perfect, no wobble, no scratches, the LCD is a lot brighter than the previous one. The only downside is a stuck red pixel at the bottom of the screen.

Now I'm wondering, how common are dead/stuck pixels?
Can you guys live with them???

 

You should really try one of those stuck pixel video loops. I've had some success with them before.

I would keep a unit with one dead pixel which might be fixable on an otherwise perfect Envy 17. I think that's doing pretty well for a model with some build issues. This laptop is so nice imho that you will forget all about it in no time.

 

Send me your Envy 17 with the 1 red stuck pixel and I'll send you my near perfect one with 2 dead pixels. The pixels seemed to have died after about 1 month.

 

i had similar problem with my envy 17. the colors on the left side is still disoriented and it flickers alot but when i press the screen it doesn't do it. i know that i have defected LCD screen. so they said when im ready to repair i can in later future. im going to buy another envy 17 but with 3D capability in December this year.

im prob going to give this replacement one to my wife since she needs a good laptop for business.

so far about 2 weeks i like it. its just the screen flicker does annoy me sometimes.

i have the wobble issue but that doesnt matter to me. sound is perfect and the performance is awesome. no whining issue either...
